Il presente volume approfondisce questi temi seguendo un approccio multidimensionale per analizzare la CSR sia sul piano teorico che applicativo. In particolare, partendo dai collegamenti con le teorie dell’impresa e dal superamento della separazione tra etica ed economia, questo lavoro affronta l’impatto strategico e finanziario della responsabilità sociale, oltre alle relazioni sinergiche con i principi di una corporate governance orientata alla tutela degli stakeholder aziendali. Il legame di fiducia con questi ultimi è vitale per l’impresa, per questo il libro approfondisce il tema della disclosure sociale come tool per rafforzare le relazioni con i diversi gruppi di interesse. Siamo dunque di fronte ad un paradigma nuovo che guarda all’impresa come istituzione sociale e non più come mero attore economico. La responsabilità sociale di impresa non è solo una teoria accademica ma una realtà concreta che tende e deve svilupparsi all’interno delle organizzazioni. Il senso di responsabilità, la consapevolezza del proprio ruolo, la coscienza professionale, queste le motivazioni intrinseche su cui fondare una concezione virtuosa dell’operare di impresa, che si sintetizza nella ricerca di equilibri sostenibili nel tempo, di comportamenti capaci di creare e mantenere un tessuto di relazioni stabili e proficue con tutti i soggetti portatori di differenti interessi.Il libro è suddiviso in due parti. La prima parte è dedicata, da un lato, a presentare lo stato del dibattito sul tema della responsabilità sociale di impresa; dall’altro ad inquadrare l’orientamento dell’Unione Europea in materia di agire responsabile. La seconda parte analizza (dapprima in termini generali poi più specifici guardando al caso dell’impresa sociale) il tema del bilancio sociale, ovvero il processo attaverso cui si “rende conto” agli stakeholder degli effetti sociali ed ambientali dell’agire eticamente orientato.Melania Verde è docente di Economia sociale e del settore pubblico, presso il Dipartimento di Scienze politiche dell’Università Federico II di Napoli. Da tempo l’osservanza dei valori intrinseci propri della RSI non rappresenta per le aziende una scelta volontaria, ma un approccio da adottare per poter competere sul mercato. È cresciuta, ormai, la consapevolezza da parte degli organi di governo della grande influenza che i temi “sociali” rivestono e dell’impatto che essi esercitano sui comportamenti degli stakeholder, come testimoniato, peraltro, dalla diffusione di strumenti di social accountability volti a rendere pubblici gli sforzi e le strategie social responsible attuate. È opinione diffusa, infatti, che il dibattito sulla RSI non vada separato da quello concernente la gestione e il governo delle imprese, in quanto, spesso, l’irresponsabilità delle imprese fa capo alle strutture e ai processi di corporate governance. L’analisi, pertanto, ha riguardato in modo specifico, le implicazioni e i riflessi che la RSI ha sulla governance e sui processi di rendicontazione. Ai fini dell’indagine è stato utilizzato l’approccio metodologico tipico dell’economia aziendale. In tal senso, la revisione della letteratura nazionale e internazionale viene arricchita dalla costruzione e visualizzazione di reti bibliometriche.

They are used to evaluate schools, to assign students to tracks within schools, and to identify weaknesses in student knowledge. The GED is an achievement test used to grant the status of high school graduate to anyone who passes it. GED recipients currently account for 12 percent of all high school credentials issued each year in the United States. But do achievement tests predict success in life? The Myth of Achievement Tests shows that achievement tests like the GED fail to measure important life skills. James J. Heckman, John Eric Humphries, Tim Kautz, and a group of scholars offer an in-depth exploration of how the GED came to be used throughout the United States and why our reliance on it is dangerous. Drawing on decades of research, the authors show that, while GED recipients score as well on achievement tests as high school graduates who do not enroll in college, high school graduates vastly outperform GED recipients in terms of their earnings, employment opportunities, educational attainment, and health. The authors show that the differences in success between GED recipients and high school graduates are driven by character skills. Achievement tests like the GED do not adequately capture character skills like conscientiousness, perseverance, sociability, and curiosity. These skills are important in predicting a variety of life outcomes. They can be measured, and they can be taught. Using the GED as a case study, the authors explore what achievement tests miss and show the dangers of an educational system based on them.
