Book Synopsis Photovoltaic and Photoactive Materials by : Joseph M. Marshall
Download or read book Photovoltaic and Photoactive Materials written by Joseph M. Marshall and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary objective of this NATO Advanced Study Institute (ASI) was to present an up-to-date overview of various current areas of interest in the field of photovoltaic and related photoactive materials. This is a wide-ranging subject area, of significant commercial and environmental interest, and involves major contributions from the disciplines of physics, chemistry, materials, electrical and instrumentation engineering, commercial realisation etc. Therefore, we sought to adopt an inter disciplinary approach, bringing together recognised experts in the various fields while retaining a level of treatment accessible to those active in specific individual areas of research and development. The lecture programme commenced with overviews of the present relevance and historical development of the subject area, plus an introduction to various underlying physical principles of importance to the materials and devices to be addressed in later lectures. Building upon this, the ASI then progressed to more detailed aspects of the subject area. We were also fortunately able to obtain a contribution from Thierry Langlois d'Estaintot of the European Commission Directorate, describing present and future EC support for activities in this field. In addition, poster sessions were held throughout the meeting, to allow participants to present and discuss their current activities. These were supported by what proved to be very effective feedback sessions (special thanks to Martin Stutzmann), prior to which groups of participants enthusiastically met (often in the bar) to identify and agree topics of common interest.

Book Synopsis International Public Goods by : Marco A. Ferroni
Download or read book International Public Goods written by Marco A. Ferroni and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2002-01-01 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increasingly, the consequences of globalization call for the involvement not only of national governments but of the international development community as a whole. Such involvement needs to occur within a comprehensive framework that encompasses stakeholders from government, non-governmental organizations, and businesses acting together in partnership. This requires the leveraging of general aid and country-focused development resources along with encouraging private financing participation. 'International Public Goods' explains different ways that this type of framework might be structured and focuses on different financing strategies that can be developed. It acknowledges the value of country specific efforts while recommending a multi-national approach to addressing problems resulting from globalization. This book evaluates the concepts fundamental to the term ?public goods? and details alternative governance structures including the role of incentives.
Book Synopsis Trade, Exchange Rate, and Agricultural Pricing Policies in Malaysia by : Glenn P. Jenkins
Download or read book Trade, Exchange Rate, and Agricultural Pricing Policies in Malaysia written by Glenn P. Jenkins and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Malaysia, a country of approximately 16 million people which gained independence in 1957, relied heavily on trade to achieve substantial growth in GNP during the 1960s (6.7 percent per year) and 1970s (10.5 percent per year). In the period 1980-83, however, the rate slipped to 3.1% per year. Malaysia's traditional exports are natural rubber and palm oil, but in the 1970s the country also became an important exporter of crude oil. During the study period (1960-83), government intervention through the taxation of natural rubber and palm oil has made the cultivation of these two products less profitable for farmers while also reducing foreign exchange earnings. In contrast to its policies for natural rubber and palm oil, Malaysia steadily intervened in the price of rice during the study period to improve producer prices. Direct intervention in rice prices has taken the form of a guaranteed minimum price which was raised substantially in the late 1970s. Agricultural pricing policies in Malaysia have been remarkably stable over time. In return, the Malay paddy farmers have faithfully supported the moderate Malay political parties, hence, keeping the pro-development political coalition in power throughout this period.
