Book Synopsis Mare Plasticum - The Plastic Sea by : Marilena Streit-Bianchi
Download or read book Mare Plasticum - The Plastic Sea written by Marilena Streit-Bianchi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-07-23 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, written by a multidisciplinary team of authors comprising scientists, artists and communicators, explores one of the most pressing issues of our time – the menace plastics pose to marine environments and organisms. It takes readers on a journey that begins on the beaches of Galicia, where the beach litter formed the starting point for an exhibition that combines art and science to alert the audience to the urgent need for action. The journey culminates with a short “plastic story”, which reveals a disturbing vision of the future significance of plastics for humans, and an example of how comics can deliver information to a younger audience. Along the way there is plenty of fascinating science, such as insights into the impacts of plastics and microplastics; the new marine ecosystem, known as the “plastisphere”; and the current status of the oceans, from the Arctic to the Mediterranean. The book also explores the historical developments; sustainable solutions, including the use of circular economy methodologies; and protective measures, like those being tried in China and the Far East. Lastly, it describes the role played by rivers as transport vectors for plastic, with special reference to the Danube, and to complete the picture, since most of the plastic is of terrestrial origin, it investigates problems related to microplastics in soils.

Download or read book On Art and Painting written by and published by University of Wales Press. This book was released on 2016-07-15 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a collection of fourteen essays on the Dialogues on Painting, published by the Florentine-born Spanish painter and art theorist Vicente Carducho (1568–1638) in 1633. This was the first treatise in Spanish on the art of painting, written as part of a campaign led by Carducho in collaboration with other prominent painters working in Madrid, to raise the status of the artist from artisan to liberal artist. The treatise provides an overview of the melding of Italian Renaissance art theory and Madrilenian practice in the baroque era. It also offers first-hand insight into collecting in Madrid during this crucial period in the rapid expansion of the capital city. The present collection of essays by art historians and hispanists from the UK, Spain, Germany and the US examines each of the dialogues in detail, furnishing an account of Carducho’s campaign to establish a painting academy and to professionalise the office of the painter; detailing the publication history of the treatise and the interrelationship between painting and poetry; and it cites Carducho’s own painting in relation to the Italian and Spanish traditions within which he operated.

Download or read book Integrated Science written by Nima Rezaei and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-06-16 with total page 495 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integrated Science: Science without Borders” is the first volume of the INTEGRATED SCIENCE Book series, aiming to publish the results of the most updated ideas and reviews in transdisciplinary fields and to highlight the integration of discrete disciplines, including formal sciences, physical-chemical sciences and engineering, biological sciences, medical sciences, and social sciences. This volume primarily focuses on the research involving the integration of two or more academic fields offering an innovative, borderless view, which is one of the main focuses of the Universal Scientific Education and Research Network (USERN). The whole world is suffering from complex problems; these are borderless problems; thus, a borderless solution could merely solve such complex issues. Transdisciplinarity is a domain, that researchers work jointly, using a shared conceptual framework, drawing together disciplinary-specific theories, concepts, and approaches to address common problems. Lack of confidence, lack of expertise, complexities of healthcare, the confusing nature of healthcare environments, and lack of organization and standardization are the obstacles of successful scientific communication. Consequently, this book provides an overview of the essential elements of transdisciplinary studies and integrated science. The unique aspect of this book -privileging it from other books- is covering all aspects of science as harmonies of a single symphony.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: MuVi6 is the sixth edition of the publication dedicated to Visual Music – following MuVi (Granada, 2007), MuVi2 (Granada, 2009), MuVi3 (Almería, 2012), MuVi4 (Alcalá la Real, Jaén, 2015), MuVi5 (Granada and Alcalá la Real, Jaén, 2018) – an event integrated with the VII International Congress: “Synesthesia: Science and Art”, held from the 26th to 29th of October 2022, at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Granada and at the Convento de Capuchinos in Alcalá la Real (Jaén), Spain. This event confirms its primary objective of providing perceivable, aesthetic (and synaesthetic) feedback on the theoretical contents addressed at the conference through lectures, debates and posters, proving over time, in the editions that have followed, to be capable of stimulating debate This particular edition, in line with the conference, aims to underline the challenge between the digital and the material: this is the interpretative key that we asked of both the authors of the preliminary essays anticipating the collection of works, and the authors of the video projects. Hybridisation was expressed on several levels, which can be summarised in two main trends: in the sources, where nature and the kinematics of the elements, e.g. liquids or gasses, are a source of inspiration; or in the hybridisation of techniques where the material and the digital alternate. Each edition surprises us with the richness of the productions, with increasingly complex compositional and technical solutions, undoubtedly facilitated by the evolution of audio/video software and visual programming languages that facilitate new aesthetic experiments. The sound/visual relationships are therefore as much the result of a perceptual analysis as of an algorithmic application that can escape the control of the perceivable
