Ils découvrent, flottant sur le chenal, cloués à des pièces de bois, les cadavres de leurs frères morts au Saint-Elme. Les Turcs les ont revêtus de leur soubreveste rouge de combat mais, au-dessous, les Hospitaliers ont la poitrine ouverte en forme de croix. Tous ont le cœur arraché, la tête tranchée.
