Book excerpt: Christies Unmasked is a really sensational story about the disclosure of the biggest London auction house Christies financial machinations. The story started from the unique Persian carpet, which, as a real state of the art, attracted such an intensity of emotions that the reader hadnt ever dreamed of. All of a sudden, the author found himself among the group of charlatans of international scale, craving to get his precious carpet into their grabby hands, but unwilling to reveal the real price of the carpet to his owner. However, our hero didnt loose himself and decided to find out everything himself. The book describes Otabeks adventures in London, the story of his love, his defeated hopes, and big disappointment in those people whom he entrusted his treasure in the beginning of his story. In his search for the truth, he had to travel around half of the world, and finally found out the real price of his carpet, thus showing up the charlatans in their true colors. However, the price which the author had to pay for the truth was too high: while he wandered around the world, his Princess got too tired of waiting and married another man? Well, such things happen from time to time and we never know who of these two men turned out to be the luckiest, after all. Our Otabek decided that such turn of events is not a reason yet to drop down his head and in a short while created his own corporation called Muboraks, named after his might-have-been Princess. At the same time, he started to work on his book, where he wrote about all his adventures. The book absolutely honestly describes all the events, saving real names, dates and facts. Its a captivating story where several genres interweave witheach other in a fancy way: adventures give place to a real detective and gradually turn into a sad story of unshared love. The book grabs readers attenti

Book excerpt: By comparing his crimes with those of other serial killers, this is the most extensive psychological profile of the man behind Jack the Ripper--leading to a likely suspect Had the Jack the Ripper murders taken place in 1988, not 1888, the ability of law enforcement to respond to them would have been markedly different. Much has since been learned about this type of killer: their damaged childhoods, misfit adulthoods, and psychopathic alienation from the human race. Here, William Beadle uses his Ripper psychological profile in conjunction with newly unearthed evidence to point out William Henry Bury--a suspect who embodied all of Ripper's dire characteristics. Bury had a terrible childhood, he was a horsemeat butcher, and he had a violent relationship with his wife. Bury was out all night on the dates of the murders, and when his wife "committed suicide" she had been strangled and her body ripped up in the same way as the Ripper's victims. When Bury was executed for the murder of his wife, the killings in the East End stopped, and a Scotland Yard detective even conceded to the hangman that he was "quite satisfied you have hanged Jack the Ripper."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fact proves far stranger than fiction in this collection of real-life crimes, scandals, tragedies and murders which either influenced the works of the world's most popular mystery writer or affected the lives of many famous personalities involved in her long and brilliant career. Discover the truth behind many of her books, such as how the exploits of Jack the Ripper inspired the serial killings in The ABC Murders and how the plot twist in The Murder of Roger Ackroyd was suggested by Lord Mountbatten. This book also reveals how many of her illustrious acquaintances found themselves immersed in episodes so bizarre that they could have been written by Christie herself, including how the father of Miss Marple actress Margaret Rutherford committed murder and Poirot actor Peter Ustinov witnessed the assassination of a world leader. Agatha Christie's True Crime Inspirations is a fascinating addition to Christie literature, focusing on little-known parts of this iconic writer's life and career. From her early roots in Torquay to her infamous eleven-day disappearance, no stone is left unturned as the events of her own life are revealed to be every bit as intriguing as her world-renowned novels.

He took measurements and photographs and reported his findings to the museum’s director. Then, he disappeared. Was the innocent invitation to the violin maker the first step in a complex plot to rob the Gardner? The museum director thinks so and hires Theo R. Perdoux, an expert in worldwide art thefts, to investigate. Inspired by the actual unsolved robbery of Boston’s Gardner Museum, Maness spins a plausible web that races ahead like a shot. The brisk pace and clever twists offer an intriguing explanation why masterpieces worth millions have never been found.

Book excerpt: Vilified by fellow Victorians for his sexuality and his dandyism, Oscar Wilde, the great poet, satirist and playwright, is hailed today, in some circles, as a progressive sexual liberator. But this image is not how Wilde saw himself. Joseph Pearce's biography strips away pretensions to show the real man, his aspirations and desires. It uncovers how he was broken by his prison sentence; it probes the deeper thinking behind masterpieces such as The Picture of Dorian Gray and De Profundis; and it traces his fascination with Catholicism through to his eleventh-hour conversion. Pearce removes the masks and reveals the Wilde beneath the surface. He has written a profound, wide-ranging study with many original insights on a great literary figure.
