Book Synopsis How Does Sanctification Work? by : David Powlison
Download or read book How Does Sanctification Work? written by David Powlison and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2017-05-12 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many popular views try to reduce the process of Christian growth to a single template: Remember past grace. Rehearse your identity in Christ. Avail yourself of the means of grace. Discipline yourself. But Scripture portrays the dynamics of sanctification in a rich variety of ways. No single factor, truth, or protocol can capture why and how a person is changed into the image of Christ. Weaving together personal stories, biblical exposition, and theological reflection, David Powlison shows the personal and particular ways that God meets you where you are to produce change. He highlights the variety of factors that work together, helping us to avoid sweeping generalizations and pat answers in the search for a key to sanctification. This book is a go-to resource for understanding the multifaceted, lifelong, personal journey of sanctification.

Book excerpt: "The blessings of Sanctification and Justification walk hand in hand; and never were, never will be, never can be parted. No more than the delicious scent can be separated from the beautiful bloom of the rose or carnation: let the flower be expanded, and the fragrance transpires. Try if you can separate gravity from the stone or heat from the fire. If these bodies and their essential properties, if these causes and their necessary effects, are indissolubly connected, so are our justification and our sanctification"

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christians generally recognize the need to live a holy, or sanctified, life. But they differ on what sanctification is and how it is achieved. How does one achieve sanctification in this life? How much success in sanctification is possible? Is a crisis experience following one's conversion normal--or necessary? If so, what kind of experience, and how is it verified? Five Views on Sanctification--part of the Counterpoints series--brings together in one easy-to-understand volume five major Protestant views on sanctification: Wesleyan View – represented by Melvin E. Dieter Reformed View – represented by Anthony A. Hoekema Pentecostal View – represented by Stanley M. Horton Keswick View – represented by J. Robertson McQuilkin Augustinian-Dispensationalism View – represented by John F. Walvoord Writing from a solid evangelical stance, each author describes and defends his own understanding of the doctrine sanctification and then responds to the views of the other authors. The Counterpoints series presents a comparison and critique of scholarly views on topics important to Christians that are both fair-minded and respectful of the biblical text. Each volume is a one-stop reference that allows readers to evaluate the different positions on a specific issue and form their own, educated opinion.

Book Synopsis Sanctification, Be Holy, a Guide to Discipleship by : Marc A. Carr
Download or read book Sanctification, Be Holy, a Guide to Discipleship written by Marc A. Carr and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2012-05 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are to take to heart our personal holiness simply because we have been saved to do so. The process of sanctification is essentially a three fold work: First, sanctification is the cleansing of the soul from sin. Second, sanctification brings us to full stature in Christ. Third, sanctification separates us to the Lord for His purposes. There will be, in practicality, varying degrees of thoroughness relative to the riddance of sin versus growth in Christ-like stature because of the varying degrees of human cooperation with the Holy Spirit or lack thereof. Still, sanctification is the active work of the Spirit though such a calling may appear passive, even absent, due to the lack of knowledge, the slothfulness and the rebellion of the saint. It is these three that best represent much of our present religious atmosphere. Where there is lack of knowledge [about sanctification] there has to be indolence, laziness and rebellion in the form of indifference about personal holiness. And rebellion is a very strong word that should not be used without qualification by the one making the charge or taken lightly by the one addressed. To use the word with its' passive counterpart in this case, indifference, is to bring an indictment against a sizeable portion of the body of Christ. Life is about sin, death then hell. Or life is about God, Christ and responding to the Holy Spirit. To grasp the continual need of sanctification one has to know who the real enemy is in order to receive real relief by sanctification. The real enemy is within. We are self deceived, whose roots of deception are affixed to Satan, Adam and the fall; in that order, eventuating in our fallen nature, in desperate need of God's provisions. And thankfully God has supplied us with every provision through the process of sanctification. Marc presently lives in Orlando Florida where he pastors Blessed Fellowship Orlando, an outreach ministry of Orlando Prayer and Worship Center, Senior Pastor Roy Futch.

Download or read book Sanctification as Set Apart and Growing in Christ written by Margaret Elizabeth Köstenberger and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2023-05-05 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Biblical Theology of Sanctification from Genesis to Revelation God's holiness and the sanctification of his people are key themes throughout the biblical narrative. In this addition to the Short Studies in Biblical Theology series, Marny Köstenberger explores the topic of sanctification—being set apart by God for holiness—which is the impetus for a believer's God-given mission. Surveying the Bible from beginning to end, Köstenberger teaches that sanctification is a trinitarian enterprise: God creates humanity in his holy image, Christ delivers them from sin, and the Spirit applies the benefits of Christ's saving work, restoring the original image in Christ. At the core, a believer's union with Christ, and their experience of abiding in him, powerfully propels their growth in holiness.
