Download or read book Dogs in Health Care written by Jill Lenk Schilp and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2019-10-08 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dogs have a storied history in health care, and the human-animal relationship has been used in the field for decades. Certain dogs have improved and advanced the field of health care in myriad ways. This book presents the stories of these pioneer dogs, from the mercy dogs of World War I, to the medicine-toting sled dogs Togo and Balto, to today's therapy dogs. More than the dogs themselves, this book is about the human-animal relationship, and moments in history where that relationship propelled health care forward.
Book Synopsis Don't Worry, It Gets Worse by : Alida Nugent
Download or read book Don't Worry, It Gets Worse written by Alida Nugent and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2013-05-07 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Touching and relatable." –BUST Magazine Overeducated, underemployed, and hungover is no way to go through life, but here we are. After graduating college with a drink in one hand and a degree in the other, Alida Nugent was ready for the supportive, predictable embrace of “the real world.” She didn’t expect to be buried under a pile of student loan debt, laundry, and two-dollar bottles of wine, all of which pointed to the sinking realization that she had no idea what she was doing. In Don’t Worry, It Gets Worse, Nugent shares what it takes to make the awkward leap from wide-eyed undergrad to “mature and responsible adult that definitely never eats peanut butter straight from the jar and considers it a meal.” From trying to find an apartment on the black hole otherwise known as Craigslist to the imaginative financial finagling required to pay off student loans and still enjoy happy hour, Nugent documents the formative moments of being a twentysomething with a little bit of snark and a lot of heart. Perfect for fans of HBO's Girls and Allie Brosh's Hyperbole and a Half, Don’t Worry, It Gets Worse brings the best aspects of Nugent’s blog—the Frenemy—to the page as a love note to boozin’, bitchin’ ladies everywhere.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A book etched in nostalgia, with poems that go back to 1964, when the decision was made to begin saving the poems in a 7’’x 9” notebook, instead of placing them in a fi le, which, at length, became diffi cult to fi nd; essentially lost Time brought forth three such notebooks, two fi lled; the third well-over half used. A book attuned, in good part, to family history; the growth and flowering of two generations; a continuing story that surpasses the bounds of poetic surveillance.

Download or read book Seeing Ghosts written by Kat Chow and published by Hachette UK. This book was released on 2021-08-24 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This "graceful, captivating" (New York Times Book Review) story from a singular new talent paints a portrait of grief and the search for meaning as told through the prism of three generations of her Chinese American family—perfect for readers of Helen Macdonald and Elizabeth Alexander. Kat Chow has always been unusually fixated on death. She worried constantly about her parents dying---especially her mother. A vivacious and mischievous woman, Kat's mother made a morbid joke that would haunt her for years to come: when she died, she'd like to be stuffed and displayed in Kat's future apartment in order to always watch over her. After her mother dies unexpectedly from cancer, Kat, her sisters, and their father are plunged into a debilitating, lonely grief. With a distinct voice that is wry and heartfelt, Kat weaves together a story of the fallout of grief that follows her extended family as they emigrate from China and Hong Kong to Cuba and America. Seeing Ghosts asks what it means to reclaim and tell your family’s story: Is writing an exorcism or is it its own form of preservation? The result is an extraordinary new contribution to the literature of the American family, and a provocative and transformative meditation on who we become facing loss. Download or read book Fly It Home written by Joe Rhodes and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2014-04 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, Fly It Home, is a biographical compilation about the year that I spent in the war in Viet Nam. It is drawn from many letters that I wrote home to my family. My mother always saved the letters that her sons wrote home from their duty stations and when I was reading some of them a while back, I decided to put them in monthly order and write my thoughts about the letters. The letters that I wrote home usually were specific about what was happening at my duty station. Some were about visiting with my brother, some were about working in the hanger and some were about the weather or the South China Sea. Some were even about the food that we had or about the sorties that our helicopters flew. Many were written about what I was looking forward to when my tour was over. Then there was one that I wrote about the day that my brother left Viet Nam and the lonely feeling that I had upon his departure. I believe that was the day of my transformation from boy to man. I remain thankful that both my brother and I were able to serve our country for a year each in a war zone and returned back home unimpaired. Many served and came back home. Many served and came back home in a box. Fifty eight thousand of them. Please remember their family's sacrifice. Thank you.

Book Synopsis With Love, From Malaysia by : M. Bakri Musa
Download or read book With Love, From Malaysia written by M. Bakri Musa and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2004-04-01 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With Love, From Malaysia is an intimate look at Malaysia in the 1970s, through a series of letters home by a young Canadian mother. With two toddlers and her Malaysian surgeon husband, she adjusts to life in a new country and strange culture. Karen E. Musa chronicles the challenges of tolerating a stifling bureaucracy and accommodating "how they do things differently." With Love, From Malaysia narrates the young family's rich and varied experiences, from their royal audience with the Sultan of Johore to visits to the kampong. For Karen Musa, the warmth of her husband's large extended family considerably eased her culture shock of "enjoying" the "luxury" of household maids, her continuing "saga of the telephone," and other tribulations in dealing with Third World officialdom. The family's adventures in the mundane chores of daily living, which the natives take in stride, make for entertaining reading. This is the Malaysia that natives and foreigners alike rarely experience or appreciate.
Download or read book Our Island written by Donald Junkins and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2015-11-30 with total page 659 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About Junkins novel Orchards of Almonds: Don Junkins semi-autobiographical novel, Orchards of Almonds, blossoms with a Camelot-studded cast of characters that includes Kennedys alive and dead, LBJ and company, Reagan, and dozens of California politicos, academics, Viet Nam protesters and movie stars. . . . Junkinsas much the poet in design as in languagehas achieved another triumph of deftness, irony and grace. Allen Josephs (On Hemingway and Spain) I was bowled over by Puss. I have never read, in any other literary work, such a profoundly pure and honest and dead-on rendering of the young girl. And that coupled with her extraordinary father/daughter relationship, it moved me deeply. He did for that relationship what Hemingway did for father and son in Indian Camp. Download or read book Daly City written by Bunny Gillespie and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2003-11-24 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nestled in the shadow of San Bruno Mountain and known as "The Gateway City" for its proximity to San Francisco, Daly City is much more than a typical suburb. A thriving and diverse community built along El Camino Real (The King's Highway), the road that connected all of the Spanish Missions in California, the city has evolved from a quaint agricultural town to an important business, residential, and transit center. This new collection of images, mostly vintage and rarely seen photographs, tells the city's journey from the original Spanish land grant through its 1911 incorporation and on to modern times. The town has always been cosmopolitan, developed with the help of Irish, German, and Italian settlers, and today's large numbers of Hispanic and Filipino residents. Aside from natural wonders like San Bruno Mountain and the dramatic Pacific coastline, Daly City also has man-made landmarks like the Cow Palace, which has long been host to large-scale events such as the Grand National Rodeo and political conventions. Nearby Colma is known for its cemeteries, but as readers will see in this book, shares a surprisingly rich history with Daly City.
