Download or read book Choose Heaven Hell written by Peter Smith and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2019-01-03 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Death is a mystery, and people fear that which they do not understand. No one looks forward to dying, but it is inevitable. The mystery is, "Is there something or someplace where a person will go to after their last breath?" There are many beliefs concerning this matter, and not all of them can be true. Television and the media have trained our minds to believe that heaven and hell is a figment of our imagination. There is no life after this one. Others believe in some sort of heaven or hell. They have questions: Are they real? What are they like? What goes on while there? Where are they? And vitally important, Who will reside in either place, and why? The focus of this book is to develop an understanding about hell. Hell will remain a mystery as long as a person does not go to the source for the information. There are books written which speak of people who have died, gone to hell, and then come back. Should we believe them? Are they fiction or fact? Where can we go to receive the truth and answers? Is there a source which we can believe and not question? This book is not written on fable or fiction but on fact. The writer never went to hell or had visions from God. The answers concerning hell are available to any who seeks and is interested in their life after death. Read on and become informed. Knowledge of hell will help the reader in making a life-changing decision. Read on if you desire the truth.
Download or read book Raising Jesus written by E.J. Sweeney and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2018-10-31 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life is hard . . . then you die. It’s as simple as that. Dead bodies stay dead. So in this modern, scientific age, how can any reasonable person possibly believe that Jesus actually rose from the dead? Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy turned out to be myths. How is Jesus’s Resurrection any different? How can there possibly be any credible evidence for an event that happened two thousand years ago? The resurrection of Jesus is the most important event in the history of the world—if it’s true. If Jesus did rise, then he is God, the ultimate reality itself. In him, you can find the meaning of life, the secret of happiness, and the way to eternal life. Raising Jesus provides the evidence to show that it really is true. In this era of “alternative facts,” Raising Jesus relies on the most balanced and up-to-date scholarship to shed trustworthy new insights into the evidence. It does this in an easy-to-follow, systematic way using engaging illustrations to reveal the logic of complex arguments. Most importantly, it deals head on with the biggest problem most people in our modern, scientific age have with the resurrection: the philosophical objection that dead people simply don’t come back from the dead. Raising Jesus ultimately shows how believing Jesus rose from the dead is, in fact, the most reasonable conclusion you can make.

Download or read book Heaven and Hell written by Bart D. Ehrman and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2021-03-23 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over half of Americans believe in a literal heaven, in a literal hell. Most people who hold these beliefs are Christian and assume they are the age-old teachings of the Bible. Ehrman shows that eternal rewards and punishments are found nowhere in the Old Testament, and are not what Jesus or his disciples taught. He recounts the long history of the afterlife, ranging from The Epic of Gilgamesh up to the writings of Augustine, focusing especially on the teachings of Jesus and his early followers. Ehrman shows that competing views were intimately connected with the social, cultural, and historical worlds out of which they emerged. -- adapted from jacket

Book Synopsis C. S. Lewis Goes to Heaven by : David G. Clark
Download or read book C. S. Lewis Goes to Heaven written by David G. Clark and published by . This book was released on 2012-02 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: C.S. Lewis' novel, The Great Divorce, about a man who takes a bus trip from Hell to Heaven, is full of fascinating characters and conversations. C.S. Lewis Goes to Heaven is the first book dedicated to exploring this story, revealing many important secrets that have gone undetected since its publication in 1946. Discover how leaving a train station in the wrong direction provided Lewis a model for Hell. Learn the real names of an Impressionist painter and a famous detective writer that Lewis placed (anonymously) in Hell. With considerable detective work of his own, David Clark carefully expands ideas found in The Great Divorce using supporting references from Lewis' personal correspondence and other books, particularly Mere Christianity, The Screwtape Letters, Surprised by Joy and Letters to Malcolm.* * * Clark looks at the story through three different lenses. First, he introduces the characters and their interactions chapter by chapter, including a brief narrative so readers new to Lewis will feel at home. Second, he reveals how even the book's landscapes convey the theology of Lewis. Then the author comes "alongside" Lewis, explaining his theological ideas and insights, showing their far-reaching implications, and providing scriptural references. By these three approaches, the astonishing grasp of Lewis' theology is revealed in accessible language. The book concludes with three appendices, including 40 pages of historical character sketches, literary references, and concepts.* * * Considering that Lewis himself thought it surpassed his classic book, The Screwtape Letters, it's regrettable that The Great Divorce has been neglected for so long. Now for the first time, there is a comprehensive guide to help readers appreciate this profound and entertaining novel, and be awestruck by the grace of God it reveals. * * * "If you want a great guide to The Great Divorce, you can't do better than David Clark, who introduces readers to a host of fascinating historical and literary characters - illuminating this popular novel with theological insight and devotional delight. Clark's tour of C. S. Lewis' version of Heaven and Hell provides a truly refreshing holiday." * * * Terry Lindvall, author of Surprised by Laughter: The Comic World of C.S. Lewis

Book Synopsis Visions of Heaven and Hell by : John Bunyan
Download or read book Visions of Heaven and Hell written by John Bunyan and published by Sovereign Grace Publishers,. This book was released on 2007-02 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the wicked have traveled a course of sin, and discover they have reason to fear the God;s judgement and wrath for their sins, they begin to wish there is no God to punish them, then by degrees they persuade themselves there is no God, and then they set themselves to study the arguments to support their opinion. This excellent book by John Bunyan covers the subject matter of the existence of heaven and hell as well as studies and dispells the arguments presented by sinners who argue there is no heaven and hell. Most do not know that Bunyan wrote some 60 books, and poetry too. And also almost a well-kept secret is that his doctrine was so biblically laced that many good men would call him too severe. He believed in, and taught, ALL the doctrines of grace, including double-predestination, or reprobation. Why then is he not smeared with the name of hyper-Calvinist like Goodwin, Gill, and others? I guess the same people ought to call Luther a hyper-Lutheran, for he believed and taught it, too. Why begin a review of Bunyan's writings with such a view of his doctrine? It is to show that a Pilgrim's Progress can come only from someone who believes and teaches ALL the counsel of God, without flinching, yea, with loving-kindness. Illegally, He sat in a jail cell over a river for 12 years with his Bible, Galatians by Luther, and another book or two. He had the choice of feeling miserable and murmuring, or of filling his time, thoughts, and energies with studying that Bible, and seeking a way to be of help to his more comfortable, but less dedicated, brothers and sisters. Listen, dear saints, you can't do any better than reading Bunyan. Like Gurnall, he covers everything here and there, and with a sweetness that can come only from God. What a shame that his large heart should be encased in such small print. But, like digging gold, it is worth the time and trouble to dig spiritual gold. Bunyan (1628-1688) rose from an humble beginning to being a preacher to a little house church, to 12 years in jail because he would not agree to quit preaching, to a huge church in London. He wrote 66 books, nearly all while in jail.

Download or read book Love Wins written by Rob Bell and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2011-03-15 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Millions of Christians have struggled with how to reconcile God's love and God's judgment: Has God created billions of people over thousands of years only to select a few to go to heaven and everyone else to suffer forever in hell? Is this acceptable to God? How is this "good news"? Troubling questions—so troubling that many have lost their faith because of them. Others only whisper the questions to themselves, fearing or being taught that they might lose their faith and their church if they ask them out loud. But what if these questions trouble us for good reason? What if the story of heaven and hell we have been taught is not, in fact, what the Bible teaches? What if what Jesus meant by heaven, hell, and salvation are very different from how we have come to understand them? What if it is God who wants us to face these questions? Author, pastor, and innovative teacher Rob Bell presents a deeply biblical vision for rediscovering a richer, grander, truer, and more spiritually satisfying way of understanding heaven, hell, God, Jesus, salvation, and repentance. The result is the discovery that the "good news" is much, much better than we ever imagined. Love wins.
Book Synopsis Hell and Heaven in Narrative Perspective by : Andrew Perriman
Download or read book Hell and Heaven in Narrative Perspective written by Andrew Perriman and published by . This book was released on 2021-01-09 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The debate about "hell" is always going to be a difficult one. This collection of essays from postost.net addresses important aspects of the current debate, arguing for a radical revision of the evangelical understanding not only of hell but also of heaven on the basis of a "narrative-historical" reading of the New Testament. Punishment and reward are part of the story of what was happening to the people of God as it passed through a long and painful transition from national Israel under the Law to a cosmopolitan, empire-wide community under Jesus. This approach forces us to rethink some traditional assumptions about who we are and where we are going. Through his blogging and books Andrew Perriman is pushing for a renewal of evangelical thought and practice in an increasingly post-Christian era.

Book excerpt: In God Loves People, But He Hates Sin, Mark Allen examines the most important questions that define a spiritual life, from "What is sin?" to "Does eternity exist?" to "Is there a heaven?" Each essay is accompanied by Bible verses that answer the questions the author poses in each of the sections. As a witness to God's love, he is focused on insuring that the information provided thoroughly examines each topic, encouraging all to explore God's place in their lives. Those who are not certain about what sin is will be able to delve deeply into what it is and how it affects our lives and our personal relationships with both others and God. How do we approach our lives? There are daily events that we see and ignore, but should we? If we are not intimately involved in passing God's love to others, then how can we avoid sin? As believers, living in God's love is to be conscious of what we do and who we are in his love. God Loves People, But He Hates Sin answers the spiritual questions that face believers every day while encouraging them to embrace their relationships with God to conquer sin through love and understanding. "You will find in reading this book that God's love is unconditional, but He does not have to love what we do." "You are what God designed you to be - a man or a woman."
