Download or read book Blood Lyrics written by Katie Ford and published by Graywolf Press. This book was released on 2014-11-25 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Katie Ford's is a finely-wrought lyrical beauty, a poetry of detail and care, but she has set it within an epic arc." —Poetry I lie still, play dead, am delivered decree: our daughter weighs seven hundred dimes, paperclips, teaspoons of sugar, this child of grams for which the good nurse laid out her studies as a coin purse into which our tiny wealth clinked, our daughter spilling almost to the floor. —from "Of a Child Early Born" In Katie Ford's third collection, she sets her music into lyrics wrung from the world's dangers. Blood Lyrics is a mother's song, one seared with the knowledge that her country wages long, aching wars in which not all lives are equal. There is beauty imparted, too, but it arrives at a cost: "Don't say it's the beautiful / I praise," Ford writes. "I praise the human, / gutted and rising."

Download or read book The Renunciations written by Donika Kelly and published by Graywolf Press. This book was released on 2021-05-04 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An extraordinary collection of endurance and transformation by the award-winning author of Bestiary The Renunciations is a book of resilience, survival, and the journey to radically shift one’s sense of self in the face of trauma. Moving between a childhood marked by love and abuse and the breaking marriage of that adult child, Donika Kelly charts memory and the body as landscapes to be traversed and tended. These poems construct life rafts and sanctuaries even in their most devastating confrontations with what a person can bear, with how families harm themselves. With the companionship of “the oracle”—an observer of memory who knows how each close call with oblivion ends—the act of remembrance becomes curative, and personal mythologies give way to a future defined less by wounds than by possibility. In this gorgeous and heartrending second collection, we find the home one builds inside oneself after reckoning with a legacy of trauma—a home whose construction starts “with a razing.”
Book Synopsis The Middle English Lyric and Short Poem by : Rosemary Greentree
Download or read book The Middle English Lyric and Short Poem written by Rosemary Greentree and published by Boydell & Brewer. This book was released on 2001 with total page 610 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Bibliography assembles annotation of collections and criticism of lyrics of religious and secular love, carols and songs, and rhymes of everyday life. The Middle English lyrics and short poems form a varied group that ranges over most aspects of life to include lyrics of religious and secular love, carols and songs, and mundane rhymes of everyday life. Thus there are expressionsof devotion, ethereal or earthly, theological expositions, and knowledge needed for life. The poems are disparate and generally anonymous, and their survival owes much to chance. The bibliography assembles neutral annotation of collections and criticism of the works, arranged chronologically to show the course of criticism and the growing appreciation of these poems and all they can tell us. The introduction considers these matters, problems of definitionof the genre, and the isolable lyrics, and seeks to reconcile some first impressions of the poems, as disparate and slight, with the rewards of close study. ROSEMARY GREENTREE is currently Visiting Research Fellow, Dept of English, University of Adelaide.

Book Synopsis Choosing Not Choosing by : Sharon Cameron
Download or read book Choosing Not Choosing written by Sharon Cameron and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 1992 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although Emily Dickinson copied and bound her poems into manuscript notebooks, in the century since her death her poems have been read as single lyrics with little or no regard for the context she created for them in her fascicles. Choosing Not Choosing is the first book-length consideration of the poems in their manuscript context. Sharon Cameron demonstrates that to read the poems with attention to their placement in the fascicles is to observe scenes and subjects unfolding between and among poems rather than to think of them as isolated riddles, enigmatic in both syntax and reference. Thus Choosing Not Choosing illustrates that the contextual sense of Dickinson is not the canonical sense of Dickinson. Considering the poems in the context of the fascicles, Cameron argues that an essential refusal of choice pervades all aspects of Dickinson's poetry. Because Dickinson never chose whether she wanted her poems read as single lyrics or in sequence (nor is it clear where any fascicle text ends, or even how, in context, a poem is bounded), "not choosing" is a textual issue; it is also a formal issue because Dickinson refused to chose among poetic variants; it is a thematic issue; and, finally, it is a philosophical one, since what is produced by "not choosing" is a radical indifference to difference. Extending the readings of Dickinson offered in her earlier book Lyric Time, Cameron continues to enlarge our understanding of the work of this singular American poet.

Lyrics are country songs reflecting lifes experiences and treasures. Suffering and miracles in my life have taught me truth. The secular movement has eroded basic Christian values in mental health. Recovery is possible for mental illness and alcoholism when you understand youre self and how your higher power can intervene. Love can make the difference with paranoia when you know youre self. Privacy is threatened. Never give up hope, always be vigilant Israeli PM. Hitler took over using government health care against the people, will it happen to us? We are at war for our liberty and freedom of religion and also health care freedom. [email protected], other books http://www.dougpargeterbooksandlyrics.vpweb.com In my lyrics I reflected on the renewing of relationships. My relationships were stormy due to the nature of the illness but decided to let my wife know I had schizophrenia beforehand the last time creating trust where I needed it allowing her to put up with my paranoia. I have suffered as Job and regained much that I lost and I hope to share my success with the world thru my books and song lyrics which has become therapy to me.
