Download or read book Intertemporal Macroeconomic Models, Money and Regional Choice written by G. Chirichiello and published by Springer. This book was released on 2000-05-23 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intertemporal macroeconomics links microeconomics and growth theory methods. The effects of policies are examined as the dynamic interaction between decisions of agents and policy interventions. The book explores the two basic approaches of models of infinitely-lived agents (Cass-Ramsey-Koopmans approach) and models of overlapping-generations (Allais-Fisher-Samuelson approach). Controversial questions concerning monetary models and monetary policies are also considered in a systematic way. The book also introduces both real models and monetary models of endogenous growth.

Download or read book Advances in Control Systems written by C. T. Leondes and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-11-30 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in Control Systems: Theory and Applications, Volume 8 provides information pertinent to significant progress in the field of control and systems theory and applications. This book focuses on applications to large-scale systems. Organized into seven chapters, this volume begins with an overview of an effective algorithm for dynamic system organization with state variable constraints. This text then explores a number of effective techniques for the analysis and syntheses of final value control systems. Other chapters consider some significant problems associated with the practical application of Kalman Filter techniques. This book discusses as well the most significant and fundamental work on the international scene in the development of effective algorithms for dynamic system optimization. The final chapter deals with the application of modern control methods of complex industrial process control problems. This book is a valuable resource for mathematicians, control system engineers, physical scientists, economists, econometricians, and research workers.

Book Synopsis Optimal Control Theory with Applications in Economics by : Thomas A. Weber
Download or read book Optimal Control Theory with Applications in Economics written by Thomas A. Weber and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2011-09-30 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A rigorous introduction to optimal control theory, with an emphasis on applications in economics. This book bridges optimal control theory and economics, discussing ordinary differential equations, optimal control, game theory, and mechanism design in one volume. Technically rigorous and largely self-contained, it provides an introduction to the use of optimal control theory for deterministic continuous-time systems in economics. The theory of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) is the backbone of the theory developed in the book, and chapter 2 offers a detailed review of basic concepts in the theory of ODEs, including the solution of systems of linear ODEs, state-space analysis, potential functions, and stability analysis. Following this, the book covers the main results of optimal control theory, in particular necessary and sufficient optimality conditions; game theory, with an emphasis on differential games; and the application of control-theoretic concepts to the design of economic mechanisms. Appendixes provide a mathematical review and full solutions to all end-of-chapter problems. The material is presented at three levels: single-person decision making; games, in which a group of decision makers interact strategically; and mechanism design, which is concerned with a designer's creation of an environment in which players interact to maximize the designer's objective. The book focuses on applications; the problems are an integral part of the text. It is intended for use as a textbook or reference for graduate students, teachers, and researchers interested in applications of control theory beyond its classical use in economic growth. The book will also appeal to readers interested in a modeling approach to certain practical problems involving dynamic continuous-time models.
Book Synopsis The Economic Performance Index (EPI) by : Mr.Vadim Khramov
Download or read book The Economic Performance Index (EPI) written by Mr.Vadim Khramov and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2013-10-23 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Existing economic indicators and indexes assess economic activity but no single indicator measures the general macro-economic performance of a nation, state, or region in a methodologically simple and intuitive way. This paper proposes a simple, yet informative metric called the Economic Performance Index (EPI). The EPI represents a step toward clarity, by combining data on inflation, unemployment, government deficit, and GDP growth into a single indicator. In contrast to other indexes, the EPI does not use complicated mathematical procedures but was designed for simplicity, making it easier for professionals and laypeople alike to understand and apply to the economy. To maximize ease of understanding, we adopt a descriptive grading system. In addition to a Raw EPI that gives equal weights to its components, we construct a Weighted EPI and show that both indexes perform similarly for U.S. data. To demonstrate the validity of the EPI, we conduct a review of U.S. history from 1790 to 2012. We show that the EPI reflects the major events in U.S. history, including wars, periods of economic prosperity and booms, along with economic depressions, recessions, and even panics. Furthermore, the EPI not only captures official recessions over the past century but also allows for measuring and comparing their relative severity. Even though the EPI is simple by its construction, we show that its dynamics are similar to those of the Chicago Fed National Activity Index (CFNAI) and The Conference Board Coincident Economic Index® (CEI).

Book Synopsis Applied Macroeconomics for Public Policy by : Rafael Yanushevsky
Download or read book Applied Macroeconomics for Public Policy written by Rafael Yanushevsky and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2018-09-28 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applied Macroeconomics for Public Policy applies system and control theory approaches to macroeconomic problems. The book shows how to build simple and efficient macroeconomic models for policy analysis. By using these models, instead of complex multi-criteria models with uncertain parameters, readers will gain new certainty in macroeconomic decision-making. As high debt to GDP ratios cause problems in societies, this book provides insights on improving economies during and after economic downturns. - Provides a detailed analysis of existing macroeconomic models - Addresses the dynamics of debt to GDP ratio and the effects of fiscal and monetary policy on this ratio - Shows how to use models to evaluate the dynamics of the debt to GDP ratio in cases of government spending and tax cuts and to decide whether such economic measures are efficient - Uses optimal theory to obtain optimal yearly debt levels to reach the established goals (decrease debt or balance budget) - Provides many examples and software exercises to promote learning by doing
