Sub-Saharan Africa was the target of the research, due to the high rate of the practice of child marriage in the world. This means that, 39 % of women aged 20-24 that were married before their 18 birthday live in the sub-Saharan Africa. The issue of child marriage is the concern of both boys and girls in Africa but in most case, girls are the most affected in that practice. This practice is a serious violation of human rights of boys and especially girls in that; it barred the girls rights to education, equality and development. Another chocking phenomenon is that, child marriage has a negative effect on the life of girls in that, it have harmful effect on the health of girls. Method: The desktop research: collect of information on line on internet. Results: The causes of child marriage in Africa are many, including: gender inequality against girls, poverty in families and insecurity and conflict. Strategies or interventions to overcome child marriage are as follows: the empowerment of girls through education; mobilize family and community to not prefer to married girls; help poor families to support their girls in school with conditional economic support. Conclusion: The study recommends programmes (for example of the Berhane Hewan) must be developed in order to ensure that, law is implemented. The Southern African Development Community (SADC) developed model law to combat the phenomenon of child marriage.

When violence exists in a relationship, safety is compromised, shame abounds, and peace evaporates. Violence is learned behavior and it flourishes most when it is ignored, minimized, or misunderstood. When it strikes the homes of deeply religious women, they are: more vulnerable; more likely to believe that their abusive partners can, and will, change; less likely to leave a violent home, temporarily or forever; often reluctant to seek outside sources of assistance; and frequently disappointed by the response of the religious leader to their call for help. These women often believe they are called by God to endure the suffering, to forgive (and to keep on forgiving) their abuser, and to fulfill their marital vows until death do us part. Concurrently, many batterers employ explicitly religious language to justify the violence towards their partners, and sometime they manipulate spiritual leaders who try to offer them help. Religion and Intimate Partner Violence seeks to navigate the relatively unchartered waters of intimate partner violence in families of deep faith. The program of research on which it is based spans over twenty-five years, and includes a wide variety of specific studies involving religious leaders, congregations, battered women, men in batterer intervention programs, and the army of workers who assist families impacted by abuse, including criminal justice workers, therapeutic staff, advocacy workers, and religious leaders. The authors provide a rich and colorful portrayal of the intersection of intimate partner violence and religious beliefs and practices that inform and interweave throughout daily life. Such a focus on lived religion enables readers to isolate, examine, and evaluate ways in which religion both augments and thwarts the journey towards justice, accountability, healing and wholeness for women and men caught in the web of intimate partner violence.

Book excerpt: Unlike most Asian and Latin American countries, sub-Saharan Africa has seen both an increase in population growth rates and a weakening of traditional patterns of child-spacing since the 1960s. It is tempting to conclude that sub-Saharan countries have simply not reached adequate levels of income, education, and urbanization for a fertility decline to occur. This book argues, however, that such a socioeconomic threshold hypothesis will not provide an adequate basis for comparison. These authors take the view that any reproductive regime is also anchored to a broader pattern of social organization, including the prevailing modes of production, rules of exchange, patterns of religious systems, kinship structure, division of labor, and gender roles. They link the characteristic features of the African reproductive regime with regard to nuptiality, polygyny, breastfeeding, postpartum abstinence, sterility, and child-fostering to other specifically African characteristics of social organization and culture. Substantial attention is paid to the heterogeneity that prevails among sub-Saharan societies and considerable use is made, therefore, of interethnic comparisons. As a result the book goes considerably beyond mere demographic description and builds bridges between demography and anthropology or sociology.
