A. McCann, who has been offered a. captaincy. J. N. Hunter, the prominent timber land owner of central Oregon. is spending a few days in the mountains hunting large game. Mr. Hunter and his associate, W. H'. Staats, in former years owned all the land where the Shevlin-Hixon Lumber Co.'s plant now stands. Clyde M. McKay, one of the old timers of Bend, and for many years manager of the Mueller Timber Co.'s extensive interests in central Oregon, is now county treasurer of Deschutes county. Both the Brooks-Scanlon Lumber Co. and the Shevlin-Hixon Lumber Co. have conducted their own retail lumber yards since they have been operating here, but through an arrangement with H. A. Miller, one of the pioneer lumbermen of this section, both companies will market their retail lumber through him. The Columbia Hardwood Lumber Co., of 2082 Dominick street, this city, has recently purchased a property on Fullerton avenue just west of Elston avenue, for a. new yard. The property was purchased from Mrs. Amanda S. Lister and is irregular in shape, its dimensions being 482x201x272x349x 103 feet. It is understood that the purchase price was in the neighborhood of $75,000 and that the company will erect an office on these premises and will shortly remove its yard to the new site. A. J. Sine, of Sine Bros., 1235 Lumber Exchange, this city. well known dealers in Pacific coast lum 'go0d physical condition. her and shingles, started in August on a western trip with his automobile. Mr. Sine traveled westward through Iowa, Nebraska and Colorado to Denver and made the thousand miles or more in fairly satisfactory time and without serious mishap, However. he suffered from an attack of asthma upon arriving at Denver and was confined to his bed by lllness there for two weeks.
