Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This slice of life vignette will inspire you to reach your goals and believe in yourself and the dreams you have. I embarked on my writing journey when I was a young lady residing in Connecticut. While there I had plenty of dreams of becoming an author, poet, and fine art photographer. My journey through life has allowed me to work as a freelance journalist and photographer. Owning my own business has led me to fulfill my goals of working as an editor, poet, consultant, and publisher of my work. As an educator and college professor/honors faculty member, I've had the priviledge of teaching many students. In addition to that, I've taught plenty of students to write creatively, and learn a foreign language or two through a variety of adult education programs. As a competitive writer and photographer, I've enjoyed the exhilarating rush I've felt after winning an award for my work. There's nothing like a cash award, ribbon, or certificate attached to a poem, photograph or an essay! I penned my first award winning poem as a sophomore while attending New Milford High School, New Milford, Connecticut. Right before my senior year began, we moved to Brookfield, Massachusetts. My last year of high school was at Tantasqua Regional Vocational High School in Sturbridge, Mass. While there I honed my award winning writing skills and continued to write competitively prior to my graduation. This book is penned to inspire everyone. I truly believe that each person has a story to tell, and can illustrate it with a nice photograph or two. To help with your creative ventures, I've penned a short writing guide to help you compose your writing. Everyone has a story to create, and you can begin composing yours today!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many of us, cancer is an inescapable reality. It is estimated that one in two people will be affected by the disease during their life. ‘Mortal Musings: Waiting for Dawn’ is a moving, thought-provoking and intensely personal account of one man’s journey. In October 2016 my indigestion turned out to be cancer. A few days later, the news got worse when it was discovered my cancer was not only rare and incurable, but it was Stage IV and I likely had only a few months to live. A death sentence like that naturally makes you think about your own mortality and what lies beyond. But I was not about to give in to the inevitable. I refused to believe in a no-win scenario. People say it is always darkest before the dawn, so I set about waiting for the sunrise. Being impatient, I did everything I could to hurry it along. Mortal Musings is about my fight -- physically, mentally and spiritually. It is about hope, faith and denial, how the cancer impacted my life and the lives of those around me, my treatments and the emotional struggle I endured. But it also delves into speculation about what lies ahead, beyond this mortal coil. That I am still here, three years later, is a miracle. That I am now cancer free is even more amazing. As Jimmy Valvano said, “don’t give up, don’t ever give up.” And I didn’t. **** “A must-read for anyone affected by this life-changing disease.” – Bethan White, Fade “A powerful testimony of how all of us must accept our own mortality.” – Richard Denham, Arthur: Shadow of a God

Book excerpt: This work examines Stephen King's position in popular literary circles and then considers the contributions of his family to the landscape of contemporary fiction. Though they have to a degree been eclipsed by Stephen King's popularity, his wife, Tabitha King, and sons, Owen King and Joe Hill, have found varying levels of success in their own right. The three have traveled their own writing paths, from supernatural fiction to contemporary literary fiction. This is the first extended exploration of the works of three authors who have too long been overshadowed by their proximity to "the King of Horror."

Book excerpt: Urban artist Riley Flynn spends her days wandering the streets of Dallas, sketching the city she loves. Then dead bodies start showing up in the exact locations she was sketching, and the police arrive on her doorstep. With every reason in the world to distrust the law, she’s reluctant to help the striking detective assigned to the case, especially after the cops start treating her like a suspect. As the stakes get deadlier, Riley’s instinct for self-protection wars with civic duty and unexpected attraction. Detective Claire Hanlon is all about the facts, all about the law, and all about climbing the Dallas PD ladder. Her career advancement hinges on capturing the killer terrorizing the city, and the only thing in her way is the incredibly stubborn, incredibly beautiful person of interest, Riley Flynn, who is also incredibly off limits. Because she might be guilty of murder.

Book excerpt: Woman Reclining explores many facets of life that we experience every day. The poems inside cover topics that all of us can relate to whether it's the love we share towards one another, or the compassion towards an animal companion. My poetry teaches human values, whether I write about war or the spirituality that guides me and others each and every day.As an artist I study my art and write about it, and I write about art created by others. I find that expressing myself as a poet when I write about their work deeply challenges me, and pushes me to work hard to write compelling literature. For example, one of my award winning pieces, "Woman Reclining" was inspired by Donna Jackson's art through Artists Among Us 2005. She and numerous other artists enabled me to craft many poems about the human condition.I began my poetic journey as a high-school sophomore in New Milford High School in Connecticut many years ago. I find that writing defines my life and poetry gives me the ability to write creatively. I encourage you to read my book of poetry and find a piece of yourself in Woman Reclining.Writing My Book of Poetry is available on Amazon.com's shorts page. This non-fiction essay provides you, the reader with insightful information regarding the poetry that I included in my book of poetry, "Woman Reclining".http://myspace.com/authorcheryl, and facebook.com, Cheryl Vatcher-MartinMy poem , "More than 58,000 Names Etched", has won Honorable Mention in the Non-rhyming Poem category of the 76th Annual Writer's Digest Writing Competition!
