Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The section devoted to iron in this volume reflects the tremendous progress in the area. Specifically cluster chemistry, ligand transformations and detailed structural results are more prominent in COMC II. The organic chemistry of ruthenium and osmium is an area which has burgeoned during the period since the publication of COMC. This is especially true for the cluster chemistry of these elements, which have provided most of the advances in this important field. Consequently, this volume will include an update (1981-1993) of the chemistry of mono- and bi-nuclear complexes of ruthenium and osmium, with a rather more extensive treatment of tri- and tetra-nuclear complexes. This is because many of the early results in ruthenium and osmium cluster chemistry described in COMC are now much better understood and can thus be placed in a more general context. In the case of complexes containing clusters with five or more metal atoms, the coverage is essentially complete, again because this chemistry has developed during the 1980s.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present supplement to Inorganic Chemistry courses is developed in the form of reference schemes, presenting the information on one or several related element derivatives and their mutual transformations within one double-sided sheet. The compounds are placed from left to right corresponding to the increase in the formal oxidation number of the element considered. For each distinct oxidation state the upper position in the column is occupied by an oxide, its hydrated forms, followed then by basic (and oxo-) and normal salts. The position of each compound in this scheme is unambiguously determined in this approach by the central atom oxidation number (in the horizontal direction) and the nature of ligand (in the vertical one), which simplifies considerably the search for necessary information. The mutual transformations are displayed by arrows accompanied by the reagents or other factors responsible for the reaction (red arrows mean oxidation, green arrows mean reduction, black arrows – if the oxidation number is not changed). Modern training programs require the mastering of a tremendous amount of data. The present tables should serve as a useful addition to textbooks and lectures.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perspectives in Supramolecular Chemistry will relate recent developments and new exciting approaches in supramolecular chemistry. In supramolecular chemistry, our aim is to understand molecular chemistry beyond the covalent bond - the series will concentrate on goal-orientated supramolecular chemistry. Perspectives in Supramolecular Chemistry will reflect research which develops supramolecular structures with specific new properties, such as recognition, transport and simulation of biosystems or new materials. The series will cover all areas from theoretical and modelling aspects through organic and inorganic chemistry and biochemistry to materials, solid-state and polymer sciences reflecting the many and varied applications of supramolecular structures in modern chemistry. Transition Metals in Supramolecular Chemistry Edited by Jean-Pierre Sauvage, Université Louis Pasteur, Strasbourg, France The chemistry of weak forces and non-covalent interactions as pioneered by Pedersen, Lehn and Cram is considered to be the origin of modern supramolecular chemistry. 30 years ago transition metals and their complexes were not regarded as important to this science. Transition Metals in Supramolecular Chemistry clearly demonstrates that today, transition metal complexes are routinely used to build large multicomponent architectures which display new and exciting applications including molecular switches, liquid crystals, and molecular magnets. Contents * Ligand and Metal Control of Self-Assembly in Supramolecular Chemistry * Bistability in Iron (II) Spin-Crossover Systems: A Supramolecular Function * Luminescent Sensors with and for Transition Metals * The Chirality of Polynuclear Transition Metal Complexes * Design and Serendipity in the Synthesis of Polynuclear Compounds of the 3d-metals * Rotaxanes: From Random to Transition Metal-Templated Threading of Rings at the Molecular Level * Metallomesogens - Supramolecular Organisation of Metal Complexes in Fluid Phases * Self-Assembly of Interlocked Structures with Cucurbituril Metal Ions and Metal Complexes Reflecting contemporary science, Transition Metals in Supramolecular Chemistry will inspire scientists and students interested in coordination chemistry, magnetochemistry, molecular sensors and switches, liquid crystals and artificial systems.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This widely acclaimed serial contains authoritative reviews that address all aspects of organometallic chemistry, a field which has expanded enormously since the publication of Volume 1 in 1964. Almost all branches of chemistry and material science now interface with organometallic chemistry - the study of compounds containing carbon-metal bonds. Organometallic compounds range from species which are so reactive that they only have a transient existence at ambient temperatures to species which are thermally very stable. Organometallics are used extensively in the synthesis of useful compounds on both large and small scales. Industrial processes involving plastics, polymers, electronic materials, and pharmaceuticals all depend on advancesments in organometallic chemistry. In basic research, Organometallics have contributed inter alia to metal cluster chemistry, surface chemistry, the stablilization of highly reactive species by metal coordination, chiral synthesis, the formulation of multiple bonds between carbon and the other elements and between the elements themselves. Advances in Organometallic Chemistry is an essential reference work for the academic and industrial chemist and will provide up-to-date material at the cutting edge of chemistry research. - Metal organic compounds of calcium, strontium, and barium in chemical vapour deposition - 17- and 19-electron organometallic complexes - Halocarbonyl complexes of molybdenum and tungsten - Substituent effects in metallacene chemistry

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has so closely matched the requirements of its readership over the years that it has become the first choice for chemists worldwide. Heterocyclic chemistry comprises at least half of all organic chemistry research worldwide. In particular, the vast majority of organic work done in the pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries is heterocyclic chemistry. The fifth edition of Heterocyclic Chemistry maintains the principal objective of earlier editions – to teach the fundamentals of heterocyclic reactivity and synthesis in a way that is understandable to second- and third-year undergraduate chemistry students. The inclusion of more advanced and current material also makes the book a valuable reference text for postgraduate taught courses, postgraduate researchers, and chemists at all levels working with heterocyclic compounds in industry. Fully updated and expanded to reflect important 21st century advances, the fifth edition of this classic text includes the following innovations: Extensive use of colour to highlight changes in structure and bonding during reactions Entirely new chapters on organometallic heterocyclic chemistry, heterocyclic natural products, especially in biochemical processes, and heterocycles in medicine New sections focusing on heterocyclic fluorine compounds, isotopically labeled heterocycles, and solid-phase chemistry, microwave heating and flow reactors in the heterocyclic context Essential teaching material in the early chapters is followed by short chapters throughout the text which capture the essence of heterocyclic reactivity in concise resumés suitable as introductions or summaries, for example for examination preparation. Detailed, systematic discussions cover the reactivity and synthesis of all the important heterocyclic systems. Original references and references to reviews are given throughout the text, vital for postgraduate teaching and for research scientists. Problems, divided into straightforward revision exercises, and more challenging questions (with solutions available online), help the reader to understand and apply the principles of heterocyclic reactivity and synthesis.
