Book Synopsis Chemical Plant and Its Operation by : T. M. Cook
Download or read book Chemical Plant and Its Operation written by T. M. Cook and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-19 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemical Plant and Its Operation (Including Safety and Health Aspects), Second SI Edition describes chemical plant operations from a practical standpoint. This book is divided into eight chapters. Chapter 1 describes the materials used in the construction of a chemical plant. The second chapter explains the storage and conveyance of solids, liquids, and gases from raw materials to finished products. Chapter 3 reviews the common items of equipment that form a complete working unit of a plant. The three classifications of chemical operations—techniques of operation, specialized operations, and unit operations are described in Chapter 4. Chapter 5 discusses the measurement of variable quantities, while Chapter 6 focuses on the maintenance of a chemical plant. The last chapters deal with the services and safety aspects of chemical operations. This edition is designed to meet the needs of chemical operatives who are preparing for the examinations for the ordinary and advanced certificates in chemical plant operation, including those taking chemical technician courses.

Book Synopsis Problem Solving for Process Operators and Specialists by : Joseph M. Bonem
Download or read book Problem Solving for Process Operators and Specialists written by Joseph M. Bonem and published by Wiley-AIChE. This book was released on 2011-05-31 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides methods to train process operators to solve challenging problems. The book is split into two parts. The first part consists of two parts; first developing a daily monitoring system and second providing a structured 5 step problem solving approach that combines cause and effect problem solving thinking with the formulation of theoretically correct hypotheses. The 5 step approach emphasizes the classical problem solving approach (defining the sequence of events) with the addition of the steps of formulating a theoretically correct working hypothesis, providing a means to test the hypothesis, and providing a foolproof means to eliminate the problem. The initial part of the book focuses on defining the problem that must be solved and obtaining the location, time and quantity based specifications of the problem. This part of the book also presents techniques to find and define problems at an early point before they progress to the critical level. The second part of the book deals with the utilization of fundamental chemical engineering skills to develop a technically correct working hypothesis that is the key to successful problem solving. The primary emphasis is on simple pragmatic calculation techniques that are theoretically correct. It is believed that any operator can perform these calculations if he is provided the correct prototype. Throughout the book, the theory behind each pragmatic calculation technique is explained in understandable terms prior to presenting the author's approach. These techniques have been developed by the author in 50+ years of industrial experience. The book includes many sample problems and examples of real world problem solving. Using these techniques, theoretically correct working hypotheses can be developed in an expedient fashion.

Book Synopsis Chemical Plant Security by : Linda-Jo Schierow
Download or read book Chemical Plant Security written by Linda-Jo Schierow and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2003 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Facilities handling large amounts of potentially hazardous chemicals (i.e., chemical facilities) might be of interest to terrorists, either as targets for direct attacks meant to release chemicals into the community or as a source of chemicals for use elsewhere. Because few terrorist attacks have been attempted against chemical facilities in the United States, the risk of death and injury in the near future is estimated to be low, relative to the likelihood of accidents at such facilities or attacks on other targets using conventional weapons. For any individual facility, the risk is very small, but risks may be increasing with potentially severe consequences for human health and the environment. Available evidence indicates that many chemical facilities may lack adequate safeguards.

Book excerpt: Call it the Human element in how a refining and chemical process operation is run....the other side of the machine and control system operation equation. Its value is in lives protected and money saved. This plain English guide to the principles of human factors will enable operations and control personnel—both the experienced and uninitiated— to understand how to successfully incorporate the concepts within their own plants. Through real-world examples, the author explains how human factors engineering concepts do, and must, dovetail with process plant design and operation. Offering practical insights, the book lays out the principles of human-system interactions and how they must be incorporated into any plant and control system from the get go—in order to ensure safe and efficient operations. Control engineers and operations managers will gain incomparable, inside-the-industry experience from: • Clear discussion of performance-shaping factors; • In-depth discussion of key variables in terms of workload and staffing; • A detailed analysis of the all-important human-machine interface, including content and format; • How-to planning for system demands and levels of automation; • Invaluable guidance on worker selection and training, along with sample procedures and job aids; and • Tools for investigation of incidents and near-misses from the human perspective.
