Book excerpt: The long awaited sequel to Checkers? Asylum. ?Checkers? Abyss is an 80 page graphic novel that continues on the real story of the lovable cartoon character we all know and worship from the popular comic series ?Checkers? World?. Much time has passed since the world caught news of the vicious string of 13 macabre murders, and the subsequent apprehension of the serial killer Mutino. Checkers has accepted his fate as the crazy man he is, and has been languishing in the insane asylum for what seems an eternity. He is all but cured of his insanity, but when Mutino returns, Checkers must go back to his old ways of spontaneous and erratic pseudo-superhero antics before Mutino goes too far and begins the Apocalypse. Contains stylized violence and coarse language. Intended for mature readers.

Book excerpt: A way to instantly transport yourself into alternate dimensions by bending reality, if you will, 'wormholes' will take you on a visual journey through cartoon wonderlands; Tumbling down a rabbit-hole, as it were. However, Meatbucket has always been synonymous with worms, using them in logos and motifs since the beginning, so it only seems fitting that it would be a wormhole, or several wormholes, that we have been tumbling through. therein lies the genesis of'mickmacks wormholes'an entity seperate, yet inexorably linked to Meatbucket; 'MickMacks Wormholes' are the still art pieces that show you a glimpse of a reality in another dimension, be it from the friendly characters in the ever-growing Meatbucket family, to wild, savage ideas from uncharted territory. Each one of these pieces is a playing card, precariously stacking up to a royal castle in a grand kingdom of eccentric and whimsical nonsense!

Book excerpt: Since 1987 we have defended in articles that the Spanish queen Isabella I of Castile (Isabel la Católica) was the new chess queen (dama) on the chessboard. Other publications were in 1990, 1994, 1997, and 2004. And of course, Marilyn Yalom studied our book during her visit to the National Library in The Hague (Holland) before she wrote Birth of the Chess Queen in 2004. In her book one cannot see that in 1987, 1990, and 1994 we already published material about Isabel la Catolica (Isabel I of Castile) being the new powerful dama or chess queen on the chessboard. In other words we can state here that we have been studying Spanish history and its chess literature for over 30 years. Since 2003 we have also known the development of the new bishop in chess.

Book excerpt: Today, more mediated information is available to more people than at any other time in human history. New and revitalized sense-making strategies multiply in response to the challenges of "cutting through the clutter" of competing narratives and taming the avalanche of information. Data miners, "sentiment analysts," and decision markets offer to help bodies of data "speak for themselves"—making sense of their own patterns so we don’t have to. Neuromarketers and body language experts promise to peer behind people’s words to see what their brains are really thinking and feeling. New forms of information processing promise to displace the need for expertise and even comprehension—at least for those with access to the data. Infoglut explores the connections between these wide-ranging sense-making strategies for an era of information overload and "big data," and the new forms of control they enable. Andrejevic critiques the popular embrace of deconstructive debunkery, calling into question the post-truth, post-narrative, and post-comprehension politics it underwrites, and tracing a way beyond them.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By 1883, Dave Smith and Sam Eagle Feather Larson leave West Texas when bounty hunters pursue them. Finding a way to survive by chasing wild horses, the two settle into a horse camp where they round up likely horses for re-sale in El Paso. One magnificent herd leader has a reward on its return to the owner, Stan Piper. Dave agrees to break the wild stallion and sets about the dangerous task with help of a large Percheron horse that is three times the size of the herd stallion. Complications begin when Dave locates his missing girl-friend, Dolores Alconda and attempts to rekindle their loving relationship, only to learn that Dolores is to marry someone else, and he is devastated. Young fifteen year old tom-boy Andee Piper has designs on Dave Smith, and becomes his one true friend; though artless and clumsy, Andee attempts to snag Dave’s affections. Dolores further confounds matters, believing her fiancé dead, decides to marry Don Ruis Matoes, wealthy local ranch owner over the protests of her relatives and of Dave, who feels that Matoes has an underlying forbidding agenda. Having no other alternative, Dave stages a raid in which he abducts Dolores, steals Ruis’ racehorse, and a priest which turns into a deadly encounter with Ruis Matoes and his henchman, Ramon Garcia. Dave is seriously injured by the overzealous attempts of the Don and Garcia to learn where Dave has hidden the girl and the horse. Seeking help from the Piper’s, Dave becomes the object of a murderous attempt by Ruis to get what he wants through maneuvering and outright arson. The Piper’s become entangled in the two-way tug of war between Dave and Ruis after they learn that Wes Piper may have legitimate claims on the Matoes rancho. Only through perseverance and the assistance of a federal circuit judge does the show-down come about. Ruis, in his maddened lunacy, snatches Andee and her mother in the hope of outdistancing the law by using the two women as hostages. Saving Andee and her mother from being savagely murdered by the deranged Don falls to the capable hands of Dave, Sam, the Piper’s and the men from the village of San Miguel.

The result is a catalog of underworld data, with entries running the gamut from descriptions of grisly pits of torture to humorous cartoons lampooning the everlasting abyss. Its extensive cross-referencing also supplies links between various concepts and characters from the netherworld and provides further information on particular theories. Peruse these pages and find out for yourself what history's greatest imaginations have envisioned awaiting the wicked on the other side of the grave.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lewis R. Gordon's Fear of Black Consciousness is a groundbreaking account of Black consciousness by a leading philosopher In this original and penetrating work, Lewis R. Gordon, one of the leading scholars of Black existentialism and anti-Blackness, takes the reader on a journey through the historical development of racialized Blackness, the problems this kind of consciousness produces, and the many creative responses from Black and non-Black communities in contemporary struggles for dignity and freedom. Skillfully navigating a difficult and traumatic terrain, Gordon cuts through the mist of white narcissism and the versions of consciousness it perpetuates. He exposes the bad faith at the heart of many discussions about race and racism not only in America but across the globe, including those who think of themselves as "color blind." As Gordon reveals, these lies offer many white people an inherited sense of being extraordinary, a license to do as they please. But for many if not most Blacks, to live an ordinary life in a white-dominated society is an extraordinary achievement. Informed by Gordon's life growing up in Jamaica and the Bronx, and taking as a touchstone the pandemic and the uprisings against police violence, Fear of Black Consciousness is a groundbreaking work that positions Black consciousness as a political commitment and creative practice, richly layered through art, love, and revolutionary action.
