Much later, having read by then quite a bit of Chesterton, I fell upon this biography in a friend's bookshelf, and was stunned. When I read it, all I thought was I wish I had read this back in university before I read the CTs. It would have cleared up so much, as well as putting things in perspective. What I mainly noticed after reading the CTs, is how often they pop up in popular culture. For instance, the Miller's Tale is mentioned in the song "Whiter Shade of Pale." We are delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive Classic Library collection. Many of the books in our collection have been out of print for decades, and therefore have not been accessible to the general public. While wasting time was sometimes viewed as a sin in the late Middle Ages, Chaucer resists conventional moral dichotomies and explores a complex and challenging relationship between the interior sense of time and the external pressures of linearism and cyclicality.
