The first beginning near the median line and extending across the lower part of the breast to the axillary region. A second one was made, beginning at the same point, but curving upward about three inches above the lower one and extending outward the same distance as the first one. A large, hard tumor was found, firmly adherent to the underlying tissues. This was removed and with it the pectoral fascia and part of the pectoral muscles. The axillary glands of the left side were then removed, thus lessening the liability of the disease extending to the lungs. A large drainage tube was inserted and the skin sutured together and the wound dressed in the usual manner. The tumor was analyzed and found to be a typical sarcomatous growth. As but two per cent. Of these cases are permanently cured, and as this one is well advanced, a three months' lease of life was given to the patient. I removed several large pieces of the skull that were driven through the dura-mater, necessitating a few sutures in the much lacerated membrane. There was consider able oozing from the dura-mater, and fear ing that it would trickle down between the membrane and the skull I placed gauze drainage over the raw surface before bring ing the aps together. There was a free discharge for sixty hours of bloody serum. The drainage was removed; union by first intention; recovery complete in three weeks.
