Download or read book A Retrospective Assessment of the Upper LIP Response Following Upper INCISOR Retraction written by and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aim: To assess linear anteroposterior changes of the upper lip following upper incisor retraction in a racially heterogenous group of patients treated at the Department of Orthodontics, Faculty of Dentistry, University of the Western Cape. Materials and Methods: Pre-treatment (Tl) and post-treatment (T2) lateral cephalograms of cases involving retraction of upper incisors as part of orthodontic treatment were selected irrespective of sex and age. A sample size of 70 was statistically determined. Tracings and measurements of the linear anteroposterior positions of both the upper incisor and the upper lip were done from Tl and T2 lateral ccphalograms. Upper incisor measurements were taken > from two landmarks; namely, prosthion (Pro) and upper incisor protrusion (UIP). Upper lip measurements were taken from labrale superius (Ls). Lip strain calculations were also recorded from the lateral cephalograms. Results and discussion: The correlation between upper incisor and upper lip positional changes was examined using correlation coefficients and regression of Ls on Pro and Ls on UIP. Pro in the general sample had a correlation coefficient of 0.699, while the male and the female samples had 0.699 and 0.722, respectively.
Book Synopsis Generational Differences in Perceived Lip Protrusion Esthetics by : David Butler
Download or read book Generational Differences in Perceived Lip Protrusion Esthetics written by David Butler and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Background: Facial esthetics plays a major part in diagnosis and treatment planning in orthodontics. One aspect of facial esthetics that orthodontist can drastically change, for better or worse, is that of lip position. What is considered esthetic, however, may vary from person to person based on a multitude of variables. Hypothesis: It is hypothesized that the esthetics of lip protrusion differs with age, with a younger layperson preferring a more protrusive lip position than an older person's ideal lip protrusion. Methods: 208 lay people, ages 12+, with no background in the dental field, were surveyed and asked to rank from 1-4 a series of profiles with different lip positions in relation to the E-line, 1 being the most esthetic, 4 being the least esthetic. The respondents were then divided into different age ranges and their responses analyzed. Results: The 12-19 age group chose the profile with the lip position on the e-line as most esthetic. Age groups 20-39, 40-59, and 60+ all chose the profile that was 2mm behind e-line as the most esthetic.
