This book was released on 2019-10-18 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of Kevin X. Liscarrol's seduction, abduction and recruitment into a white-hat deep state organization - Preservers of the Asgard Settlement of Vinland - operated by hyper-partisan Americans committed to the defense of democracy. The primary settings are Key West, Great Abaco Island, Palm Beach and two unnamed tropical islands in the western Pacific. Renamed Commander Qo by his recruiter - the older, dapper, special operator Danny O'Brien who authored of The Action Manifesto - he has unique, intellectual skills that are required to prevent entities with interests inimical to the US from making their communications totally opaque from external surveillance and potentially throwing the worldwide strategic balance into chaos. However, Qo is also significantly flawed and a past tragedy in his life threatens his mental stability. Secondary characters are Cap' (a former US Navy SEAL and long-time friend of O'Brien's who shanghaies Qo from Key West), Becky Albury (who provides maternal-like tough love), Rachel (a sexually tempting member of the team) and Palila (Qo's wife from a questionable island rite in the Pacific). In addition, there are also many lesser characters that give the book substantial gravitas. This book is the first of two volumes that conveys a broader story. In a follow-on volume, subtitled The Asgard Imperative, Qo's mission is refined; he becomes erotically entangled with Rachel; and several new major characters are introduced. The two volumes actually dovetail page for page; in fact, they resulted from the cutting of the original manuscript in half when it exceeded a thousand pages. Hope you enjoy Chains of the Cosmic Wanderer: The Action Manifesto.

Book excerpt: This companion guide for the Wanderer's Tarot deck has in-depth interpretations for each card, including reversals, suggestions for card spreads, and a brief history of the tarot. “Wanderer's Tarot draws you in like nobody’s business. It’s as though this deck does a very quiet, very subtle spell on you. It draws a veil across your eyes, then unravels it, thread by thread.” —Beth Maiden, Little Red Tarot “Inspired by nature and the cosmos, Casey Zabala’s Wanderer's Tarot is a witchier deck with an air of the darkly feminine.” —Elizabeth Krohn, Sabat magazine Wanderer’s Tarot is not only as a divination tool, but is also used as a gateway to spiritual practice, self-care ritual, and a way to connect with your personal magic. The cards are based on traditional tarot symbolism, which has been transmuted by the need for feminine insight and awakening. For the magical practitioner, Wanderer's Tarot speaks to our magical tools and talismans. The suites of Moons (Cups), Stones (Pentacles), Knives (Swords) and Feathers (Wands) will lead you to a deeper understanding of your personal power— emotionally, materially, mentally, and passionately. Book excerpt: Barred from political engagement and legal advocacy, the second sophists composed and performed epideictic works for audiences across the Mediterranean world during the early centuries of the Common Era. In a wide-ranging study, author Susan C. Jarratt argues that these artfully wrought discourses, formerly considered vacuous entertainments, constitute intricate negotiations with the absolute power of the Roman Empire. Positioning culturally Greek but geographically diverse sophists as colonial subjects, Jarratt offers readings that highlight ancient debates over free speech and figured discourse, revealing the subtly coded commentary on Roman authority and governance embedded in these works. Through allusions to classical Greek literature, sophists such as Dio Chrysostom, Aelius Aristides, and Philostratus slipped oblique challenges to empire into otherwise innocuous works. Such figures protected their creators from the danger of direct confrontation but nonetheless would have been recognized by elite audiences, Roman and Greek alike, by virtue of their common education. Focusing on such moments, Jarratt presents close readings of city encomia, biography, and texts in hybrid genres from key second sophistic figures, setting each in its geographical context. Although all the authors considered are male, the analyses here bring to light reflections on gender, ethnicity, skin color, language differences, and sexuality, revealing an underrecognized diversity in the rhetorical activity of this period. While US scholars of ancient rhetoric have focused largely on the pedagogical, Jarratt brings a geopolitical lens to her study of the subject. Her inclusion of fourth-century texts—the Greek novel Ethiopian Story, by Heliodorus, and the political orations of Libanius of Antioch—extends the temporal boundary of the period. She concludes with speculations about the pressures brought to bear on sophistic political subjectivity by the rise of Christianity and with ruminations on a third sophistic in ancient and contemporary eras of empire.

Book excerpt: “Nothing in opera is grander than The Ring, no work more suited to the deep reading the writer gives here.” —Opera News Richard Wagner’s Ring of the Nibelung is one of the greatest works of art created in modern times, and has fascinated both critics and devotees for over a century and a half. No recent study has examined the meaning of Wagner’s masterpiece with the attention to detail and intellectual power that Roger Scruton brings to it in this inspiring account. The Ring of Truth is an exploration of the drama, music, symbolism, and philosophy of The Ring from a writer whose knowledge and understanding of the Western musical tradition are the equal of his capacities as a philosopher. Scruton shows how, through musical connections and brilliant dramatic strokes, Wagner is able to express truths about the human condition which few other creative artists have been able to convey so convincingly. For Wagner, writes Scruton, the task of art is to “show us freedom in its immediate, contingent, human form, reminding us of what it means to us. Even if we live in a world from which gods and heroes have disappeared we can, by imagining them, dramatize the deep truths of our condition and renew our faith in what we are.” Love, death, sacrifice and the liberation that we win through sacrifice—these are the great themes of The Ring, as they are of this book. Scruton’s passionate and moving interpretation allows us to understand more fully than ever how Wagner conveys his ideas about who we are, and why TheRing continues to be such a hypnotically absorbing work. “Scruton’s presentation is grounded throughout in a deep understanding of the culture of Wagner’s era . . . the writing is clear and persuasive.” —Library Journal (starred review) “A fascinating and valuable study.” —Sunday Times

Rueckert, some transcriptions of her own material. Struck by Brodsky’s lucid, witty, and fearless channeling, Rueckert invited Brodsky to co-channel a conversation between their spirit teachers, Q’uo and Aaron. Developed from the transcripts of nine weekends of joint channeling, The Aaron/Q’uo Dialogues: An Extraordinary Conversation between Two Spiritual Guides offers teachings from a “positive polarity” perspective, and provides answers to a wide range of spiritual questions, such as: • “What is the spiritual path and how do we live it?” • “Why do seemingly bad things happen to people who are trying to follow the dictates of love?” • “How do we open the heart?” Offering wise solutions to the major problems that prevent people from living with more awareness and compassion, these conversations offer the spiritual seeker a valuable template for a life of spiritual peace. Barbara Brodsky is a nationally known Buddhist teacher and the founder of Deep Spring Center. www.deepspring.org. Carla L. Book excerpt: "Lyria – The Way of Paradox" is a tech-natural tale punctuated by the compelling fusion of science-fiction, romance and cyber-thriller, with interesting philosophical nuances. It's an unreal story that's more real than it sounds. A paradox. The debut novel by Astrea Nicodemo, the pseudonym of a well-known content creator, takes us on a captivating journey through a world transformed by technology and the human spirit. The beautiful butterfly-winged girl, bound by arcane forces, finds herself at the centre of the battle against the Alternatives, her creators and jailers. Will Lyria be able to save the world, teetering on the ravine of the singularity, with the help of the Quantum Whisper? Will love influence the rebellious hacker who weaves the threads of the digital world? A modern fairy tale, where the dream is the seed of reality and reality is just one of the many possible dimensions. Magic merges with science, and the boundaries between digital and natural, human and artificial, become blurred. "Lyria - The Way of Paradox" is a door to a beautiful and disconcerting future. A reflection of our exponentially evolving world, where opposites overlap.

This monograph is the first scholarly history of eccentricity. Carroll explores how discourses of eccentricity were established to make sense of individuals who did not seem to fit within an increasingly organized social and economic order. She focuses on the self-taught natural philosopher William Martin, the fossilist Thomas Hawkins and the taxidermist Charles Waterton.

Book excerpt: The brothers Arkady and Boris Strugatsky have been Russia's most popular science fiction writers since their first publication appeared in 1959. The enormous and consistent popularity of their works over three decades of fluctuating political and literary conditions is all the more interesting when one considers that their primary readership has been the Russian scientific-technical intelligentsia - a sector of society whose values and attitudes were instrumental in transforming the Soviet Union. This lively and original study of the Strugatskys' development as writers and as spokesmen for a generation of Russian scientists is as timely as it is unique. It is also the first English language study of the Strugatskys' previously unpublished novels.

Book excerpt: Josh Kirby's exuberant cover paintings for Jerry Pratchett's bestselling Discworld series have spawned dozens of imitators, but no one has yet matched his irrepressible and chaotic humor. As this definitive collection of Kirby's art--including many formerly unpublished works--proves, his vision has many facets. They go from the wildest fantasies to the hardest sci-fi; some images evoke a macabre realm of horror, others portray chilling futuristic landscapes, but all are wondrous. An analysis of Kirby's career and techniques will increase your appreciation of each picture: the Discworld delights, bursting with detail and action; the ghoulish depictions of things that go bump in the night; and the representations of the science fiction worlds inspired by Ray Bradbury and Robert Silverberg. Plus: enjoy a comic compendium of interpretations from the pens of authors such as Tom Holt. A visual feast not to be missed, with an informative text by multiple Hugo Award-winner David Langford. 112 pages (all in color), 8 1/4 x 11 3/4.
