Download or read book Cellular Flows written by Vladimir Shtern and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2018-02-08 with total page 590 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A cell, whose spatial extent is small compared with a surrounding flow, can develop inside a vortex. Such cells, often referred to as vortex breakdown bubbles, provide stable and clean flame in combustion chambers; they also reduce the lift force of delta wings. This book analyzes cells in slow and fast, one- and two-fluid flows and describes the mechanisms of cell generation: (a) minimal energy dissipation, (b) competing forces, (c) jet entrainment, and (d) swirl decay. The book explains the vortex breakdown appearance, discusses its features, and indicates means of its control. Written in acceptable, non-math-heavy format, it stands to be a useful learning tool for engineers working with combustion chambers, chemical and biological reactors, and delta-wing designs.

Book Synopsis Cellular Diagnostics by : Ulrich Sack
Download or read book Cellular Diagnostics written by Ulrich Sack and published by Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2009-01-01 with total page 764 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the updated English version of the 2006 German bestseller Zellulare Diagnostik, a comprehensive presentation of flow cytometry and its applications. While some techniques of immunophenotyping by flow cytometry already are routine procedures in the laboratory, new methods for the functional characterization of cells, the analysis of rare cells, and the diagnosis of complex materials have only begun to win wide recognition. New approaches such as slide-based cytometry will lead to an increase in the use of cytometric techniques. Multiparameter approaches will further improve analysis. The book provides a comprehensive and detailed compilation of all aspects of flow cytometry in research and the clinic. For newcomers it offers a thorough introduction, for advanced users, specific protocols and interpretation assistance.
Book Synopsis ON THE HYDRODYNAMIC STABILITY OF SOME SPATIALLY PERIODIC FLOWS. by : THOMAS JOSEPH EISLER
Download or read book ON THE HYDRODYNAMIC STABILITY OF SOME SPATIALLY PERIODIC FLOWS. written by THOMAS JOSEPH EISLER and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The stability of the incompressible, boundary-free, parallel flow whose velocity profile is the cosine is considered. A two-dimensional cellular flow is also considered. The method of small perturbations is used to linearize the equations of motion about the basic flow. The boundary condition imposed is that the perturbation shall be bounded in space. The time dependence of the perturbation, assumed exponential, is chosen so that stability depends on the imaginary part of a parameter, c, which is considered to be the eigenvalue. Other parameters of interest are the Reynolds number, R, and, for the parallel flow, the wave number of the perturbation, alpha. Formulating the eigenvalue equation as the vanishing of an infinite determinant aids in calculating the neutral curve near the critical Reynolds number. The curve intersects the R axis at Rc. For large values of R it approaches alpha = 1 asymptotically. The eigenvalue spectrum consists of an infinity of bands, separated by small gaps, lying along the imaginary axis of the c plane. Book Synopsis Polyploidization and Cancer by : Randy Y.C. Poon
Download or read book Polyploidization and Cancer written by Randy Y.C. Poon and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-01-11 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Limiting genome replication to once per cell cycle is vital for maintaining genome stability. Although polyploidization is of physiologically importance for several specialized cell types, inappropriate polyploidization is believed to promote aneuploidy and transformation. A growing body of evidence indicates that the surveillance mechanisms that prevent polyploidization are frequently perturbed in cancers. Progress in the past several years has unraveled some of the underlying principles that maintain genome stability. This book brings together leaders of the field to overview subjects relating to polyploidization and cancer.
