Book Synopsis The Forgotten Instruction by : Kenneth J. Martin
Download or read book The Forgotten Instruction written by Kenneth J. Martin and published by LiturgyTrainingPublications. This book was released on 2007 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Forgotten Instruction: The Roman Liturgy, Inculturation, and Legitimate Adaptations, Father Martin explores the evolution of the Church's theology and practice of inculturation and describes how these insights have influenced the accommodations and adaptations made within the Roman liturgy. Beginning with the teachings of the Second Vatican Council, explaining Pope John Paul II's understanding of the role of inculturation in evangelization, catechesis, and liturgical renewal and ending with the Fourth Instruction on the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, this work surveys the liturgical developments made in the Roman rite. Particular attention is given to the original and subsequent revisions to the Rite of Marriage, the Rite of Ordination, the Rites of Anointing and Viaticum, and the Order of Christian Funerals. The Forgotten Instruction also comments on the responsibility that the Church bears in preserving the Roman rite while enabling it to serve its proper role in the transfiguration of cultures and the lives of individuals. With tables that break down the areas and reasons for adaptation, as well as special considerations about the procedures to be followed in more radical adaptations, this book is an informative, practical resource that will provide readers with insights into responsible pastoral practice.--Publisher.

Book Synopsis Églises et santé dans le Tiers Monde. Hier et aujourd'hui by : Jean Pirotte
Hier et aujourd'hui written by Jean Pirotte and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2016-05-18 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fifteen papers presented here examine three centuries of close, if sometimes ambiguous, links between Christian mission and medicine. The authors, who include theologians, historians, sociologists, physicians and representatives of major international health-care organisations, address themselves to such questions as: How is one to assess the results of past missionary health-care effort? How are modern-day Christian organisations to cope with the burden of institutions set up in the past? What links should the Churches maintain with official medical organisations? What position should the Churches take on the 'faith v. healing' debate begun by certain religious groups? And how is one to lay the groundwork of a theology of health and healing? The complexity of the issues outlined here can - alas - provide no easy answers.

Download or read book Culture and Eschatology written by Peter C. Phan and published by Peter Lang Incorporated, International Academic Publishers. This book was released on 1985 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among the twentieth-century Orthodox theologians Paul Evdokimov (1901-1970) has without doubt achieved a position of preeminence. Born in St. Petersburg and emigrated to Paris in 1923, Evdokimov was educated at the Sorbonne and Aix-en-Provence and taught at the Institut Saint Serge until his death in 1970. He was very active in the ecumenical movement, especially in the World Council of Churches. He was also the official Orthodox observer at the Second Vatican Council. This book, the first full-length English study of Evdokimov's theology, concentrates on culture, eschatology, and iconography, three central pillars of the Evdokimovian theological edifice. According to Evdokimov, everything in human culture must be viewed in light of the End, the already-realized-and-yet-to-come escha- tological fulfillment in Jesus Christ. The symbol and embodiment of this eschatology is the icon which makes present and participates in the transfigured reality of the Kingdom of God.

Book Synopsis Comprendre l'Eucharistie by : Bernard Sesboüé
Download or read book Comprendre l'Eucharistie written by Bernard Sesboüé and published by Éditions Salvator. This book was released on 2021-06-12 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
