Book excerpt: 2009 Catholic Press Association Award Winner! From age to age you gather a people to yourself, so that from east to west a perfect offering may be made to the glory of your name." Eucharist is the fullest expression of our life with God, a life we share with Christians throughout the ages. It is also a sensory experience, engaging us in the sights and sounds, tastes and touch of the worship. Edward Foley's revised and expanded From Age to Age draws readers into that sensory experience. He traces the development of Christian Eucharist from its Jewish roots to our own time. In addition to exploring the architecture, music, books, and vessels that contributed to each period's liturgical expressions, this edition introduces readers to the theology of each age as well as the historical and cultural contexts that shaped the Eucharist. Richly illustrated with numerous images and quotations from period texts, this book is a feast for the mind and eye. Through many examples of the visual and auditory symbols that are central to Eucharist, readers will discover how Christian worship is embodied worship that from age to age gives glory to God and sanctifies people.
Book Synopsis The Quest for Mature Masculinity by : Taylor Ellwood
Download or read book The Quest for Mature Masculinity written by Taylor Ellwood and published by Taylor Ellwood. This book was released on 2024-09-10 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Quest for Mature Masculinity, Taylor Ellwood asks the question, "What does it mean to be a man?" and takes readers on a quest to find the answer. Taylor shares his own ongoing journey to answer this question, while also drawing on spiritual, embodied and primal aspects of the masculine to share how men can move out of the toxic patterns of macho masculinity or nice guy syndrome toward an embodied and present masculinity. Traditional and patriarchal systems of masculinity have taught men to push their emotions down, while putting on a front that everything is fine, but its not fooling anyone, and its leaving men behind and alone. Taylor shares why we need to deconstruct the traditional narratives of masculinity, and in the process step into embodied awareness and leadership and spiritual connection with ourselves and the people around us. In this book you will learn: To define your own relationship with your inner masculine from a conscious and embodied perspective. To explore how ancestral family patterns have contributed to the masculine experience and why these patterns need to be dissolved. How to recognize and undo Toxic masculine patterns of behavior. How to develop a self-love practice that enables you to validate and empower yourself. This book shows men how they can help create a safer, and better world by working on themselves, connecting with other men, and showing up for the important relationships in their lives with a fully present awareness of themselves. The goal of this book is to help men unlock their hearts, be honest about their desires and fears, and in the process find meaningful purpose that contributes to the world.

By providing a clear and highly readable introduction to the realm of the transpersonal, this book eliminates many of the misunderstandings that plague this area. It relates the transpersonal to everyday life as well as to professional concerns and the various schools of therapy. The unique relationship between the therapist and client is examined in detail, as are the imagined and imaginal world, personal mythology and transcultural work. An entirely new section is included on the ways in which the transpersonal therapist can use the concept of subpersonalities. Book Synopsis Masculinity in Crisis by : R. Horrocks
Download or read book Masculinity in Crisis written by R. Horrocks and published by Springer. This book was released on 1994-08-30 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book argues that masculine identity is in deep crisis in Western culture - the old forms are disintegrating, while men struggle to establish new relations with women and with each other. This book offers a fresh look at gender, particularly masculinity, by using material from the author's work as a psychotherapist. The book also considers the contrubtions made by feminism, sociology and anthropology to the study of gender, and suggests that it must be studied from an interdisciplinary standpoint. Masculity is seen to have economic, political and psychological roots, but the concrete development of gender must be traced in the relations of the male infant with his parents. Here the young boy has to separate from his mother, and his own proto-feminine identity, and identify with his father - but in Western culture fathering is often deficient. Male identity is shown to be fractured, fragile and truncated. Men are trained to be rational and violent, and to shut out whole areas of existence and feeling. Many stereotypes imprison men - particularly machismo, which is shown to be deeply masochistic and self-destructive.

Download or read book Witch Crafting written by Phyllis Curott and published by Harmony. This book was released on 2001-10-16 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author of Book of Shadows digs deep into the practices and principles of Witchcraft to provide a comprehensive guidebook that anyone—novices and seasoned practitioners alike—can use to incorporate the beauty and power ofWicca into their own daily lives. Phyllis Curott’s first book, Book of Shadows, was an inspirational, spiritual memoir that chronicled her journey from Ivy League-educated, New York City attorney to Wiccan High Priestess. By inviting readers of all faiths to share in her own personal transformation, Phyllis debunked many of the myths surrounding Wicca and revealed it for what it really is: a spiritual movement whose tenets of Goddess worship and reverence for Nature were a great deal more accessible and familiar than she’d ever expected. Far from being just another mechanical spell book, Witch Crafting is the first book to offer readers not only the how-to of Witchcraft, but also the why-to, explaining the profound spiritual tenets behind Wiccan techniques. Filled with both traditional and innovative shamanic practices, Phyllis also provides an empowering new definition of magic and reexamines the ethics under which Witchcraft is practiced, offering a groundbreaking alternative to the Threefold Law. With enchanting stories from Curott’s own experiences, Witch Crafting will also teach you how to: • Master the secret arts of effective spellcasting • Create sacred space and personal rituals • Perform divinations for spiritual insight and earthly success • Tap into the power of altered states, such as dreaming, meditation, prayer, and trance • Keep a magical journal and create your own Book of Shadows Rich with detailed advice for making magic, working with Nature, and finding the Divine within, as well as thought-provoking evaluations of this remarkable spirituality, Witch Crafting is the special volume that you’ve been searching for. Whether you are a beginner or have been practicing Witchcraft for years, whether you worship in a coven or on your own, Witch Crafting is the ideal handbook for you, or anyone seeking to unlock the divine power that makes real magic happen and experience the ecstasy, energy, and gifts of the Universe more fully.
