Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tales from the Big Eye incorporates a young man's struggles as a professional detective within the ambit of the CBI in post-Independent India, when the profession was at its infancy. It provides glimpses into how a detective is born and how the nose for detection is sharpened over failures and successes. Significantly, this selection of a dozen tales is not all about accomplishments of a professional sleuth but provides insights into what makes the system tick or just stop ticking. There are tales of corruption, cheating, forgery and fraud, featuring well-known names, companies, departments and corporations of the Government of India, including how Prakash Tandon's State Trading Corporation and the Indira Gandhi’s office were sought to be compromised. Read about them from the sleuth who was involved in the investigations. No CBI account be complete without the notorious don, Dawood Ibrahim. He committed crimes with impunity and got away as he managed the criminal justice system. Three riveting stories tell it all while another looks into a future with the growing reach of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), with its veneer of having a federal character, which rounds off this book of exciting CBI tales.

Book excerpt: Launched at the World Humanitarian Summit in May 2016, the Connecting Business initiative (CBi) aims to transform the way the private sector engages before, during and after crises. It is the only joint initiative between United Nations organizations at the intersection of the humanitarian, development and peace agendas that engages with the private sector. The Connecting Business initiative is operated by a Secretariat based in Geneva, which is jointly managed by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). CBi helped mobilize and carries on support to private sector networks in 13 countries: Côte d’Ivoire, Fiji, Haiti, Kenya, Madagascar, Mexico, Myanmar, Nigeria, Pacific, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Turkey and Vanuatu. These networks encompass more than 1,500 companies and local business associations that together reach over 40,000 small- and medium-sized enterprises.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The B-24 Liberator was the mainstay of the US Army Air Force's strategic bombing effort in the China-Burma-India (CBI) Theatre from 1942 until the end of the war in 1945. With longer range and a greater load-carrying capacity than the B-17, the B-24 was well-suited to the demands of the CBI. The CBI's two air forces, the Tenth in India and the Fourteenth in China, each had one heavy bomb group equipped with Liberators. These two groups, the 7th and the 308th, carried the war to the Japanese across China and South East Asia, flying over some of the most difficult terrain in the world. The 308th had the added burden of having to carry its own fuel and bombs over the Himalayan 'Hump' from India to China in support of its missions. Despite the hardships and extreme distances from sources of supply, both units compiled a notable record, each winning two Distinguished Unit Citations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flying from and between bases in China and India, the B-25s bombed every type of Japanese target during World War 2 in the China-Burma-India (CBI) Theatre, ultimately dropping more ordinance than their larger four-engined B-24 Liberator brethren. Mitchell bombers took on the task of disrupting the flow of Japanese supplies to the frontlines at medium ranges, bombing Japanese supply centres, railway depots and bridges. It was in this last capacity that the B-25 established a unique role as a 'bridge-buster'. This provided significant support for the British Fourteenth Army as they advanced into Burma. Fully illustrated with detailed cutaway artwork, this book tells the important, yet forgotten story of B-25 operations in the CBI Theatre and the important role that this aircraft played on the road to victory.
