Book Synopsis The Case Study Handbook by : William Ellet
Download or read book The Case Study Handbook written by William Ellet and published by Harvard Business Review Press. This book was released on 2007-04-17 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you're enrolled in an executive education or MBA program, you've probably encountered a powerful learning tool: the business case. But if you're like many people, you may find interpreting and writing about cases mystifying, challenging, or downright frustrating. In "The Case Study Handbook", William Ellet presents a potent new approach for analyzing, discussing, and writing about cases. Early chapters show how to classify cases according to the analytical task they require (solving a problem, making a decision, or forming an evaluation) and quickly establish a base of knowledge about a case. Strategies and templates, in addition to several sample Harvard Business School cases, help you apply the author's framework. Later in the book, Ellet shows how to write persuasive case-analytical essays based on the process laid out earlier. Extensive examples of effective and ineffective writing further reinforce your learning. The book also includes a chapter on how to talk about cases more effectively in class. Any current or prospective MBA or executive education student needs to read this book.

Book Synopsis Changing Problem Behavior in Schools by : Alex Molnar
Download or read book Changing Problem Behavior in Schools written by Alex Molnar and published by IAP. This book was released on 2009-11-01 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: (orginally published by Jossey-Bass 1990) Changing Problem Behavior in Schools presents an innovative approach to dealing with classroom behavior problems that can be used successfully by teachers as all grade levels, counselors, and administrators. The authors draw on techniques and strategies developed by family therapists to show how behavior can be changed and chronic problems eff ectively addressed. They off er numerous examples—drawn from the authors’ research on over two hundred cases—to illustrate problemsolving methods used successfully in classrooms, lunchrooms, and a variety of other school settings and situations. They suggest ways to build on successes and maintain an ongoing system for handling problem behavior. And they provide guidelines for analyzing unsuccessful attempts at changing behavior and off er advice on how to handle relapses. The book examines ways to overcome a wide range of student problems, such as fighting, sleeping in class, and tardiness. It also includes advice on solving staff relations problems such as disagreements over student placement — as well as problems between the school and the community such as a lack of cooperation from parents. A valuable resource section includes practice activities that provide step-by-step instructions for applying each of the book’s specific problem-solving techniques in the school or classroom. The approach to problem behaviors in the school described in this book is called "ecosystemic" because problem behavior is viewed as a part of, not separate from, the social setting within which it occurs. The book is divided into three parts. The three chapters in Part One describe the ecosystemic framework used to explain problem behavior. Chapter 1 analyzes how social, personal, and professional factors influence individuals' perceptions of events and contribute to keeping their behavior in problem situations from changing. Chapter 2 describes the usefulness of the concept of ecosystem and explains how problems and solutions are viewed from an ecosystemic perspective. Chapter 3 focuses on how to recognize and use ecosystemic clues to help develop the flexible approach to problem solving. Part Two of the book, consisting of chapters 4 through 9, presents ecosystemic methods for promoting change in problem situations. Each chapter is devoted to a different ecosystemic technique. Each chapter follows the same format: the technique is described, case examples are presented and discussed, and the essential elements of the technique are reviewed. The three chapters in Part Three encourage readers to implement techniques from Parts One and Two. A resource section concludes the book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Perri demonstrates how eye movements and patient-assisted postures can be used to correct vertebral subluxations, somatovisceral and viscerosomatic abnormalities. The text fully demonstrates the techniques and discusses the neurological pathways activated in the applications. He fully explains how visual fields and cerebral hemispheres are linked and how this information can be applied chiropractically. Chapters include information on patterning specific chiropractic adjustments for long-term corrections using 4 different types of neuromuscular retraining. Dr. Perri demonstrates how to monitor vasomotor mirror activity during viscerosomatic corrections, and discusses DeJarnette's CMRT profiles in the context of the Conjugate Gaze Adjustive Technique. A special chapter includes how to activate global mechanisms in chiropractic corrections, and how verbal cues and speech can be used to activate specific hemispheric responses. The final chapter discusses the neuroemotional components associated with dysfunctional states and specific techniques in working with them.
Book Synopsis The Skeffington Perspective of the Behavioral Model of Optometric Data Analysis and Vision Care by : Earl P. Schmitt O.D Ed.D D.O.S.
Download or read book The Skeffington Perspective of the Behavioral Model of Optometric Data Analysis and Vision Care written by Earl P. Schmitt O.D Ed.D D.O.S. and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2006-04-28 with total page 593 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No systematic analysis of optometric clinical data can be undertaken unless the findings are referred to a logical model that allows comparisons to be made of interaction characteristics that exist between the accommodative and convergence mechanisms inherent to the human vision system. Concomitantly, many of the concepts applied during any such analytical process are based on hypothetical constructs. This text re-examines the elements originally proposed by Dr. A.M. Skeffington, and offers a revised insight into how performance changes may occur as individual visual behavior adapts to the impact of environmental demands. In-depth research and extensive references attempt to substantiate the Skeffington paradigm of professional vision analysis. Long-standing challenges to the optometric profession are identified. As presented, the contents are appropriate for use as a classroom text, for reference, and for identifying areas for clinical research.

Book Synopsis Ecology, Management, and Restoration of Piñon-juniper and Ponderosa Pine Ecosystems by : Gerald J. Gottfried
Download or read book Ecology, Management, and Restoration of Piñon-juniper and Ponderosa Pine Ecosystems written by Gerald J. Gottfried and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Southwestern piñon-juniper and juniper woodlands cover large areas of Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and adjacent Colorado. Ponderosa pine forests are the most common timberland in the Southwest. All three ecosystems provide a variety of natural resources and economic benefits to the region. There are different perceptions of desired conditions. Public and private land managers have adapted research results and their observations and experiences to manage these ecosystems for multiresource benefits. Ways to mitigate the threat of wildfires is a major management issue for these ecosystems, and the wide-spread piñon mortality related to drought and the bark beetle infestation has heightened concerns among managers and the general public. In addition, the impacts of climate change on these ecosystems are a growing concern. As a step in bringing research and management together to answer some of these questions, workshops concerned with the ecology, management, and restoration of piñon-juniper and ponderosa pine ecosystems were held in St. George, Utah in 2005 and in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2006. The combined proceedings from these two workshops contain papers, extended abstracts, and abstracts based on oral and poster presentations. Some topics included forest and woodland restoration treatments and their impacts on fuels, wildlife, and other ecosystem components, watershed management, insect infestations and drought, wood utilization, landscape changes, basic ecology, and more.
