Book Synopsis Perioperative Monitoring in Carotid Surgery by : S. Horsch
Download or read book Perioperative Monitoring in Carotid Surgery written by S. Horsch and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The efficiency of carotid surgery on an asymptomatic carotid artery stenosis and its superiority to conservative treatment was clearly demonstrated in the ACAS study. The stroke risk over a five year follow-up period could be reduced by 55 % and the combined stroke and mortality rate was shown to be a mere 2. 3 %. The efficacy of surgical treatment in also reducing stroke rates in the case of a symptomatic carotid stenosis was proven in the NASCET and ECTS prospective randomized studies. Of extreme importance in these procedures is, however, precise quality control and quality assessment. This is presently a topic of tremendous interest in reconstructive vascular surgery and is constantly being discussed in specialist circles and beyond. Documentation and the possibility of accurate reconstruction of the intraoperative situation are in high demand. Perioperative monitoring of neurological function, particularly the monitoring during carotid surgery, are the aspects underlying constant revision and reassessment to ensure quality control and assurance of a negligeable mortality and morbidity rate. The aim of this book is to discuss the presently available perioperative control methods, examinations, and quality assessments, and the critical consideration of these. We would like to express our thanks to all authors who helped achieve the sense and aim of this book. A special word of thanks to Dr. Kerstin Simons (assistant surgeon) for assisting in the editing of the numerous presentations in this book. Particularly we thank Dr.
Book Synopsis Practical Carotid Artery Stenting by : Sumaira Macdonald
Download or read book Practical Carotid Artery Stenting written by Sumaira Macdonald and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-03-11 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the management of vascular disease, there has been an inexorable drive towards less invasive endovascular treatment options. Endovascular treatment of carotid stenosis for stroke is no exception. Several sizeable multicentre trials are running concurrently, which are comparing carotid endarterectomy (CEA), the "gold standard," with the less invasive alternative, carotid stenting (CAS) for low-risk patients with symptomatic carotid stenoses who are considered to be surgical candidates. The endovascular option is in itself a newcomer but state-of-the-art CAS with regards use of all the available technical refinements, to include low-profile monorail dedicated systems with contemporary pharmacological support, is perhaps all but five years old. There is considerable interest from clinicians from a variety of clinical backgrounds and from industry in this technique and, therefore, scope for a contemporary practical guide.

Book Synopsis Vascular Surgery by : Samuel Eric Wilson
Download or read book Vascular Surgery written by Samuel Eric Wilson and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-01-12 with total page 951 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vascular surgery has seen a remarkable evolution. A discipline focused on the natural history and treatment of vascular disease by open operation is now primarily a minimally invasive specialty. Mastery of the basic pathophysiology has been retained while the transformation by improved imaging and endovascular intervention has been integrated into practice. This fourth edition of Vascular Surgery: Principles and Practice has incorporated these advances building on the specialty’s past assets. Knowledge of natural history and open surgery will always have an essential role in optimal care of patients with vascular diseases. The authors’ exposition of the old and the new will make this edition a valuable resource for vascular surgeons and all others dedicated to the care of vascular patients.
Book Synopsis Manual of Neurosonology by : László Csiba
Download or read book Manual of Neurosonology written by László Csiba and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2016-04-28 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neurosonology is non-invasive, portable, and has excellent temporal resolution, making it a valuable and increasingly popular tool for the diagnosis and monitoring of neurological conditions when compared to other imaging techniques. This guide looks beyond the use of neurovascular ultrasound in stroke to encompass a wide range of other neurological diseases and emergencies. It offers a practical approach to the examination of patients, interpretation of ultrasound studies, and the application of neurosonology to the development of management and treatment strategies. Each chapter incorporates a thorough and clear procedural methodology alongside scanning tips for trainees; this step-by-step approach is further enhanced by example images and focused diagnostic questions. Authored and edited by international experts, this practical manual of neurosonology is an invaluable resource for neurologists, neurosurgeons, intensivists, radiologists, and ultrasonographers.
Book Synopsis CRC Handbook of Carotid Artery Surgery by : Norman Rosenberg
Download or read book CRC Handbook of Carotid Artery Surgery written by Norman Rosenberg and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1989-07-31 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This easy-to-read reference book contains much previously buried data about the carotid and other extracranial arterial lesions and their treatment. The collected facts deal with the anatomy, pathology and pharmacology of the carotid artery. Diagnosis by clinical, noninvasive and angiographic methods, results of operative and nonoperative treatment in various categories of patients, such as those with prior stroke, acute stroke, stroke in evolution, reversible ischemic neurologic deficit, transient ischemic attacks (TIAs), crescendo TIAs and asymptomatic patients with bruits and/or stenoses, are included. Hard data is presented on early and late results of endarterectomy, the causes of morbidity and mortality, the long-term life expectancy of these patients with and without surgery, by category of disease. It quantifies a surgeon's options with relation to shunting or not shunting during surgery, the use of various monitoring techniques to prevent perioperative stroke, when to consider coronary artery bypass before carotid surgery, and the pros and cons of antiplatelet therapy pre- and post-operatively. Recent controversy on endarterectomy for asymptomatic stenosis is analyzed, including prospective clinical and noninvasive follow-up studies of such lesions. The recent downgrading of the effectiveness of extracranial-intracranial bypass is also discussed. For neurologists, neurosurgeons and vascular surgeons, the text is arranged for easy access and references to source material are always given. Editorial comments by the author are found at the end of each chapter.
