Book Synopsis The Pietist Impulse in Christianity by : G William Carlson
Download or read book The Pietist Impulse in Christianity written by G William Carlson and published by James Clarke & Company. This book was released on 2012-10-25 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pietism is a reform movement originating among German Lutherans in the 17th century. It focused on personal faith, reacting against Lutheran Church's emphasis on doctrine and theology over Christian living. The movement quickly expanded, exerting anenormous influence on various forms of Christianity, and became concerned with social and educational matters. Indeed, Piestists showed a strong interest in issues of social and ecclesial reform, the nature of history and historical inquiry, the shape and purpose of theology and theological education, the missional task of the church, and social justice and political engagement. Though, the movement remained largely misunderstood, especially in Anglo-American contexts: negative stereotypes depicted Pietism as a quietist and sectarian form of religion, merely concerned with the 'pious soul and its God'. The main proposal of the editors of this volume is to correct this misunderstanding: assembling a deep collection of essays written by scholars from a variety of fields, this work demonstrates that Piestism was a movement characterized by great depth and originality. Besides, they show the vitality and impulse of Pietism today and emphasize the ongoing relevance of the movement for contemporary problems and questions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Christmastide – Its History, Festivities, and Carols" is a study of Christmas and the celebration of this Holy Feast, particularly in England, in the olden times, through the middle ages, and to modern days._x000D_ "Has the early dream of youth faded away purposeless?—the ambition of manhood proved vanity of vanities? Have riches made themselves wings and flown away? or, has fame, just within the grasp, burst like a bubble? Have the friends, the companions of youth, one by one fallen off from thy converse; or the prop of advancing age been removed, leaving thee weak and struggling with the cares of life; or, has "the desire of thine eyes" been taken from thee at a stroke? Under these and other trials, the Christian looks to the anniversary of the Nativity (that rainbow of Christianity) as the commemoration of the birth of the Blessed Redeemer, who will give rest to the weary, and receive in his eternal kingdom all those who truly trust in him. And well may His name be called, 'Wonderful, Counsellor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace!'"

Book Synopsis Episodes in a Rich Life by : Raymond Wentworth
Download or read book Episodes in a Rich Life written by Raymond Wentworth and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011-03 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What's this about 'Episodes in a Rich Life?'" asked my Imaginary Friend. I'm always embarrassed when my IF speaks up, but glad that this time we were-that is, that I was-alone. If I ever admitted to the world my IF exists, some would doubt my sanity. Others would have their opinions confirmed. "I can't remember a time," my IF continued, "when you've had enough in your pocket to talk about being rich." I looked around, saw no one in earshot, and broke my rule against replying to my IF. "There are ways of being rich without having much cash," I explained. "You can have friends, enjoy experiences, learn much about a multitude of things . . . all of that, and more. And you can properly consider yourself rich." "When you put it like that," my IF admitted, "I can see your point. One more thing you mustn't forget." "And what's that?" I wondered. "Maybe I should have put it in my book." "You always have me," said my IF. "This conversation is over," I said. "In fact, it never happened." . . . Not long after I retired, I joined a Journal Writers group of senior citizens. Each week, I had to write (and read to the group) a page or so, telling what had happened to me, either during the week previous or sometime in the past. I have bundled many of these Episodes into more-or-less related groups that I call Chapters, but the reader may call them "Aggregations"-I sincerely hope not "Aggravations". The point is, I have experienced these Episodes and enjoyed most of them, and I hope the Reader enjoys them, too, whether reading straight through the book, or doing random sampling

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over 300 stories of children and critters here on Whitebriar Farms could not be contained in one book, but is a "book set". There is no rhyme or reason to the "numbering", so don't think I missed anything, but even with mismatched numbers on chapters, realize they are in chronical order, as the experience came along. God has blessed me many times with a wonderful family and the ability to show people thru words, the wonderful life that can be had on a farm with animals and children. - Carole Lokan Moore, aka, The Farmer's Daughter
