This book was released on 2004 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. As cultivare.

Book Synopsis Biological Control in Latin America and the Caribbean by : Joop C. van Lenteren
Download or read book Biological Control in Latin America and the Caribbean written by Joop C. van Lenteren and published by CABI. This book was released on 2019-12-21 with total page 552 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book summarizes the history of biological control in Latin America and the Caribbean. Few publications provide historical detail and the records are, therefore, fragmented until now. By bringing information together in this book, we offer a more complete picture of important developments in biological control on this continent. There are a wealth of text, tables and references about the history of such projects, and which were succesful and which failed. This will help plan future biocontrol projects. An overview is provided of the current situation in biological control for many Latin American and Caribbean countries, revealing an astonishing level of practical biological control applied in the regio, making it the largest area under biological control worldwide. The final part describes new developments and speculates about the future of biological control in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reports on developments in Proximal Soil Sensing (PSS) and high resolution digital soil mapping. PSS has become a multidisciplinary area of study that aims to develop field-based techniques for collecting information on the soil from close by, or within, the soil. Amongst others, PSS involves the use of optical, geophysical, electrochemical, mathematical and statistical methods. This volume, suitable for undergraduate course material and postgraduate research, brings together ideas and examples from those developing and using proximal sensors and high resolution digital soil maps for applications such as precision agriculture, soil contamination, archaeology, peri-urban design and high land-value applications, where there is a particular need for high spatial resolution information. The book in particular covers soil sensor sampling, proximal soil sensor development and use, sensor calibrations, prediction methods for large data sets, applications of proximal soil sensing, and high-resolution digital soil mapping. Key themes: soil sensor sampling – soil sensor calibrations – spatial prediction methods – reflectance spectroscopy – electromagnetic induction and electrical resistivity – radar and gamma radiometrics – multi-sensor platforms – high resolution digital soil mapping - applications Raphael A. Book Synopsis Elsevier's Dictionary of Plant Genetic Resources by : International Board for Plant Genetic Resources
Download or read book Elsevier's Dictionary of Plant Genetic Resources written by International Board for Plant Genetic Resources and published by Elsevier Science Limited. This book was released on 1991 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plant genetic resources is a rapidly expanding field of interest that is becoming increasingly important as global warming affects the patterns of world agriculture. Every country will have to consider more active breeding programmes to develop new varieties of crop plants adapted to the changing conditions. Plant genetic resources will provide the raw material for these breeding activities. This dictionary is in effect a glossary of the terms used in the field, defining words drawn from the many, diverse areas of interest that plant genetic resources involve, from plant taxonomy to molecular genetics. Over 1800 definitions are provided, all of which have been developed in consultation with experts in the field, particularly the genetic resources units of the international agricultural research centres of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research. IBPGR is one of these centres. Students, postgraduates and in particular the staff of national programmes in plant genetic resources will be interested in the book, as well as the libraries of connected institutions.
Book Synopsis Advances in Fungal Biotechnology for Industry, Agriculture, and Medicine by : Jan S. Tkacz
Download or read book Advances in Fungal Biotechnology for Industry, Agriculture, and Medicine written by Jan S. Tkacz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past half century, filamentous fungi have grown in commercial importance not only in the food industry but also as sources of pharmaceutical agents for the treatment of infectious and metabolic diseases and of specialty proteins and enzymes used to process foods, fortify detergents, and perform biotransformations. The commercial impact of molds is also measured on a negative scale since some of these organisms are significant as pathogens of crop plants, agents of food spoilage, and sources of toxic and carcinogenic compounds. Recent advances in the molecular genetics of filamentous fungi are finding increased application in the pharmaceutical, agricultural, and enzyme industries, and this trend promises to continue as the genomics of fungi is explored and new techniques to speed genetic manipulation become available. This volume focuses on the filamentous fungi and highlights the advances of the past decade, both in methodology and in the understanding of genomic organization and regulation of gene and pathway expression.
