Book Synopsis FIDIC Contracts in the Americas by : Donald Charrett
Download or read book FIDIC Contracts in the Americas written by Donald Charrett and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-07-18 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FIDIC contracts are the most widely used contracts for international construction around the world and are used in many different jurisdictions, both common law and civil law. For any construction project, the General Conditions of Contract published by FIDIC may need to be supplemented by Particular Conditions that specify the specific requirements of that project and jurisdiction. FIDIC Contracts in the Americas: A Practical Guide to Application provides readers with an overview of the legal environment, the construction industry and features of contract law applying to construction contracts in a number of jurisdictions in the Americas. It provides detailed guidance for the preparation of the Particular Conditions for FIDIC contracts that will comply with the requirements of the applicable laws that apply to the site where the work is carried out, and for the governing law of the contract. This book also details the impact of COVID-19 on both the execution of construction projects and the operation of construction contracts in each jurisdiction. This book is essential reading for construction professionals, lawyers and students of construction law.

Book Synopsis Natural Resource Extraction and Indigenous Livelihoods by : Emma Gilberthorpe
Download or read book Natural Resource Extraction and Indigenous Livelihoods written by Emma Gilberthorpe and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-22 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an extended analysis of how resource extraction projects stimulate social, cultural and economic change in indigenous communities. Through a range of case studies, including open cast mining, artisanal mining, logging, deforestation, oil extraction and industrial fishing, the contributors explore the challenges highlighted in global debates on sustainability, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and climate change. The case studies are used to assess whether and how development processes might compete and conflict with the market objectives of multinational corporations and the organizational and moral principles of indigenous communities. Emphasizing the perspectives of directly-affected parties, the authors identify common patterns in the way in which extraction projects are conceptualized, implemented and perceived. The book provides a deeper understanding of the dynamics of the human environments where resource extraction takes place and its consequent impacts on local livelihoods. Its in-depth case studies underscore the need for increased social accountability in the planning and development of natural resource extraction projects.
Book Synopsis Province Building and the Federalization of immigration in Canada by : Mireille Paquet
Download or read book Province Building and the Federalization of immigration in Canada written by Mireille Paquet and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2019-03-14 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most accounts of the provincial role in Canadian immigration focus on the experience of Quebec. In Province Building and the Federalization of Immigration in Canada, Mireille Paquet shows that, between 1990 and 2010, all ten provinces became closely involved in immigrant selection and integration. This considerable change to the Canadian model of immigration governance corresponds to a broader process of federalization of immigration, by which both orders of government became active in the management of immigration. While Canada maintains its overall positive approach to newcomers, the provinces developed, and continue to develop, their own formal immigration strategies and implement various selections and integration policies. This book argues that the process of federalization is largely the result of provincial mobilization. In each province, mobilization occurred through a modern iteration of province building, this time focused on immigrants as resources for provincial economies and societies. Advocating for a province-centred analysis of federalism, Province Building and the Federalization of Immigration in Canada provides key lessons to understanding the contemporary governance of immigration in Canada.
Book Synopsis The Healing Journey by : Linda DeRiviere
Download or read book The Healing Journey written by Linda DeRiviere and published by Fernwood Publishing. This book was released on 2020-07-10T00:00:00Z with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Healing Journey offers a startling analysis of intimate partner abuse and its negative effects on women’s earnings, education and vocational training as well as in the labour market itself. Victims of abuse often suffer from chronic physical and mental health issues, which impede their participation in the labour market. Based on findings from a seven-wave study coordinated by RESOLVE, a family violence research centre housed in universities across the prairie provinces, the goal of this book is to advance a social scientific understanding of women’s employment status and barriers to participation, occupations, household income sources and vocational training outcomes over the course of a woman’s journey to heal from intimate partner abuse.

Book Synopsis Demography at the Edge by : Rasmus Ole Rasmussen
Download or read book Demography at the Edge written by Rasmus Ole Rasmussen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-05-23 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Addressing the methodological and topical challenges facing demographers working in remote regions, this book compares and contrasts the research, methods and models, and policy applications from peripheral regions in developed nations. With the emphasis on human populations as dynamic, adaptive, evolving systems, it explores how populations respond in different ways to changing environmental, cultural and economic conditions and how effectively they manage these change processes. Theoretical understandings and policy issues arising from demographic modelling are tackled including: competition for skilled workers; urbanisation and ruralisation; population ageing; the impacts of climate change; the life outcomes of Indigenous peoples; globalisation and international migration. Based on a strong theoretical framework around issues of heterogeneity, generational change, temporariness and the relative strength of internal and external ties, Demography at the Edge provides a common set of approaches and issues that benefit both researchers and practitioners.
Book Synopsis Federalism in Action by : Donna E. Wood
Download or read book Federalism in Action written by Donna E. Wood and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2018-04-13 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every developed country has a public employment service that connects job seekers with employers through information, placement, and training support services. In Federalism in Action, Donna E. Wood assesses how Canada’s public employment service is performing after responsibility was transferred from the federal government to provinces, territories, and Aboriginal organizations between 1995 and 2015. Drawing upon over twenty years of data, Wood reveals the governance choices provinces made, the reasons behind these choices, and the outcomes they achieved. Provincial decisions regarding employment programming is an important public policy issue about which little is known, and even less understood within the context of Aboriginal communities. Federalism in Action includes analytical comparisons of Canada’s employment programming with the United States, Australia, and the European Union, as well as information from insightful interviews with key informants from every province. In firmly placing Canada within the extensive international literature on the governance of welfare-to-work policies, this book makes an important new contribution to research.
