Book excerpt: Excerpt from California Journal of Mines and Geology, Vol. 29: January and April, 1933 Amy Batch Mine (n o. 2) is a property of four unpatented mining claims in the Deadwood District, Sec. 13, T. 33 N., R. 8 W. Redding is 30 miles southeast by road, 18 miles of which is State highway; the balance Is the old Tom Green stage road, climbing the mountain on fairly steep grades above French Gulch. Carter states that this mine has produced or more from veins of ochre and quartz associated with the contact of the diorite porphyry and Bragdon slate. In some places the veins cut through both of the formations mentioned. This production was made in 1913 and earlier, with hand tools, and the treatment was in arrastras. Widths varied from a few inches to a maximum 'of 8 an average of about 2 ft. These workings have Since caved. Only assessment work was done for many years, but recently Carter has been working steadily in a lower tunnel.
