Book excerpt: Working Guide to Vapor-Liquid Phase Equilibria Calculations offers a practical guide for calculations of vapor-phase equilibria. The book begins by introducing basic concepts such as vapor pressure, vapor pressure charts, equilibrium ratios, and flash calculations. It then presents methods for predicting the equilibrium ratios of hydrocarbon mixtures: Wilson's correlation, Standing's correlation, convergence pressure method, and Whitson and Torp correlation. The book describes techniques to determine equilibrium ratios of the plus fraction, including Campbell's method, Winn's method, and Katz's method. The remaining chapters cover the solution of phase equilibrium problems in reservoir and process engineering; developments in the field of empirical cubic equations of state (EOS) and their applications in petroleum engineering; and the splitting of the plus fraction for EOS calculations. Includes explanations of formulas Step by step calculations Provides examples and solutions

Book Synopsis Vapor-liquid Equilibrium Data by : Shūzō Ōe
Download or read book Vapor-liquid Equilibrium Data written by Shūzō Ōe and published by Elsevier Science & Technology. This book was released on 1989 with total page 784 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) data are necessary for the design and operation of distillation processes. It is absolutely impossible to determine a distillation process without VLE data. The author of this book has had much experience designing and constructing distillation processes and towers and knows that VLE data must be easily retrievable, readily comprehensible, and precise. This volume contains the most important VLE data for 1,446 binary systems with Wilson parameters determined by computer processing. The data are also presented graphically. The Wilson equation, which is known as one of the most applicable to multicomponent systems, is employed for computer-aided determination of the optimum parameters using the non-linear least squares method.

Book Synopsis Vapor-Liquid Equilibrium of Binary Mixtures in the Extended Critical Region, Vol. 1 by : James C. Rainwater

This book was released on 2017-10-27 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Vapor-Liquid Equilibrium of Binary Mixtures in the Extended Critical Region, Vol. 1: Thermodynamic Model There is, therefore, a need for a current and detailed explanation of the theory and techniques, which this report is intended to satisfy. The mostly self - contained exposition should be useful for a novice as well as for an individual, of either scientific or engineering background, experienced in phase equilibrium calculations. Although this first report of a series of two contains many new results and insights not published previously, the primary justification for the work is its wide - ranging success in correlating vle data as described in Part II of this series. Furthermore, the Leung - Griffiths formalism is in part rigorous thermodynamics and in part approximation and assumption. Some of our newly introduced parameters can be given heuristic justification, whereas others are purely empirical. The exposition is organized to make clear the logical structure of the method, to identify what is exact and what is approximate, and to present arguments justifying the approximations. In Sec. 2 we define the transformed variables of the Leung - Griffiths model and translate the fundamental laws of thermodynamics into relationships among these variables. The description to this point is general and devoid of assumptions and approximations. With the proper motivation, in Sec. 3 the equation specifying the independent variable (thermodynamic potential), as a function of the dependent variables, is constructed. This step corresponds in the conventional approach to the specification of an equation of state. Specific emphasis is placed on the conformity with simple scaling - law behavior and the thermodynamic consistency of the model. In Secs. 4 and 5, certain heretofore unspecified functions of the independent variables are defined explicitly. The representation of the critical locus in Sec. 6 completes the description of the model. New results and features are summarized in Sec. 7. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High pressure vapor-liquid equilibrium data are important when very pure compounds are to be prepared, and they are also needed for high pressure liquid or supercritical chromatography. This volume is a compilation of high pressure vapor-liquid equilibrium data for 700 binary system, processed and plotted by computer for ready inspection of the whole spectrum. The information given for each system comprises: the components' names, chemical formulae, cited literature, and critical temperature, critical pressures, acentric factors of the components, optimized values of the parameters for the Peng-Robinson equations, the errors, and phase diagrams for visual comparison of the experimental data and calculated values. An alphabetical index by system name is included in the book which will be a useful reference for chemical engineers, research chemists, and graduate students who are interested in the chemical process industry.

This book was released on 2013-01-11 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designed as an undergraduate-level textbook in Chemical Engineering, this student-friendly, thoroughly class-room tested book, now in its second edition, continues to provide an in-depth analysis of chemical engineering thermodynamics. The book has been so organized that it gives comprehensive coverage of basic concepts and applications of the laws of thermodynamics in the initial chapters, while the later chapters focus at length on important areas of study falling under the realm of chemical thermodynamics. The reader is thus introduced to a thorough analysis of the fundamental laws of thermodynamics as well as their applications to practical situations. This is followed by a detailed discussion on relationships among thermodynamic properties and an exhaustive treatment on the thermodynamic properties of solutions. The role of phase equilibrium thermodynamics in design, analysis, and operation of chemical separation methods is also deftly dealt with. Finally, the chemical reaction equilibria are skillfully explained. Besides numerous illustrations, the book contains over 200 worked examples, over 400 exercise problems (all with answers) and several objective-type questions, which enable students to gain an in-depth understanding of the concepts and theory discussed. The book will also be a useful text for students pursuing courses in chemical engineering-related branches such as polymer engineering, petroleum engineering, and safety and environmental engineering. New to This Edition • More Example Problems and Exercise Questions in each chapter • Updated section on Vapour–Liquid Equilibrium in Chapter 8 to highlight the significance of equations of state approach • GATE Questions up to 2012 with answers
