This book was released on 2011-03-29 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whilst welcoming the motivation behind the Manual and the transparency it brings to the workings of Government, the Committee says that in practice the Manual may be treated as having greater authority than originally intended, particularly where its content extends beyond matters purely for the Executive. All the work of the Executive, including the Cabinet Manual , is subject to scrutiny by Parliament. The fact that the document is primarily directed at the Executive does not exempt it from this scrutiny. The Committee makes some practical suggestions for specific improvements to the text, focusing particularly on the chapters covering government formation and ministers and Parliament. The Committee also challenges some of the specific content of the draft: the failure to include the convention, acknowledged elsewhere by the Government, that Parliament should have the opportunity to debate decisions to commit troops to armed conflict; guidance on when a Prime Minister should resign following a hung Parliament. The Committee recommends that the House should hold a regular debate on the Manual. The Committee felt, despite dissatisfaction with parts of the original draft, there was no reason to delay production of an approved version. The new version need not be perfect as it will be subject to further review.

Book Synopsis Comparing Cabinets by : Patrick Weller
Download or read book Comparing Cabinets written by Patrick Weller and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021-09-16 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why is cabinet government so resilient? Despite many obituaries, why does it continue to be the vehicle for governing across most parliamentary systems? Comparing Cabinets answers these questions by examining the structure and performance of cabinet government in five democracies: the United Kingdom, Denmark, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Australia. The book is organised around the dilemmas that cabinet governments must solve: how to develop the formal rules and practices that can bring predictability and consistency to decision making; how to balance good policy with good politics; how to ensure cohesion between the factions and parties that constitute the cabinet while allowing levels of self-interest to be advanced; how leaders can balance persuasion and command; and how to maintain support through accountability at the same time as being able to make unpopular decisions. All these dilemmas are continuing challenges to cabinet government, never solvable, and constantly reappearing in different forms. Comparing distinct parliamentary systems reveals how traditions, beliefs, and practices shape the answers. There is no single definition of cabinet government, but rather arenas and shared practices that provide some cohesion. Such a comparative approach allows greater insight into the process of cabinet government that cannot be achieved in the study of any single political system, and an understanding of the pressures on each system by appreciating the options that are elsewhere accepted as common beliefs.
Book Synopsis Cabinet Making for Beginners Handbook by : Stephen Fleming
Download or read book Cabinet Making for Beginners Handbook written by Stephen Fleming and published by Stephen Fleming. This book was released on 2020-09-29 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A kitchen without a cabinet is like a body without a soul." This is what a wise cabinetmaker uttered when I asked what cabinet making meant to him. I have been practicing all the aspects of woodworking like Joinery, Woodturning, and Furniture making along with Cabinet Making, and I must say this art provides the maximum chance of impacting the overall look of your kitchen or bathroom and eventually, your home. Cabinets, for me, are an extension of your personality and a great way to express yourself. When I first started woodcraft, I looked desperately for a go-to guide about the specific processes and exact tools required. The content I found online was total information overload and wasn't presented sequentially. The books were either focused on just a few processes or assumed that I already had the necessary information. Many of the books were also very dated. There are two ways of learning: learning from SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) with years of experience, and the other is to acquire from people who are just a few steps ahead of you in their journey. I fall into the latter group. I've spent five years on this hobby and am still learning from the experts. I still remember my initial doubts and the first tips that helped me. This book is for those who are still running their first lap (0-3 years) in wood-crafting and want to gain a holistic idea of the necessary processes and tools. I've included photographs of realistic beginner projects, and I'll explain the processes and standard operating procedures associated with them. Below are the topics you would find inside: · Introduction to Cabinet Making · Cabinet Types, Doors, and Drawers · Tools used and best practices · Process and Techniques · 10 Beginner Projects · Recap and Safety Tips · Conclusion and Free Online Resources In the last chapter, I've provided a link to free online resources for planning your next projects. Cheers, and let's start the exciting journey!

Download or read book The Australian Policy Handbook written by Glyn Davis and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-07-16 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Public policy permeates every aspect of our lives. It is the stuff of government, justifying taxes, driving legislation, and shaping our social services. Public policy gives us roads, railways and airports, emergency services, industry development, and natural resource management. While politicians make the decisions, public servants provide analysis and support for those choices. Drawing on their extensive practical experience, the authors outline the processes used in making public policy. They systematically explain the relationships between political decision-makers, public service advisers, other community participants, and those charged with implementing the programs that result. The sixth edition of this widely used introduction is fully updated, and includes new material on the professionalisation of politicians, the role of opposition members, loss of corporate memory in the public service, addressing systemic policy failure, nudge economics and the impact of social media and the sharing economy on policy making and government. 'An invaluable guide for practitioners, academics and students to the craft of policy analysis, development and evaluation. It is an important resource for those with a commitment to sound evidence-based public policy.' Ken Smith, ANZSOG CEO and Dean 'An enduring and important contribution to the field. Althaus, Bridgman and Davis' pioneering policy cycle approach continues to offer vital insights into the policy-making process in Australia and internationally.' Lisa Paul AO PSM, Former Secretary of the Department of Education
