This book was released on 2010-04-21 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) presents the twelfth issue of the Bulletin on Population and Vital Statistics in the ESCWA Region. The Bulletin provides detailed information on the population of the ESCWA region and its vital events: births, deaths, marriages and divorces. It presents this information in three parts: population; fertility and mortality; and marriage and divorce. In this issue, the Bulletin presents the main indicators for each vital event. These indicators have been computed using national data, weighted by population estimates from the 2008 Revision of the World Population Prospects, prepared by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs. Major changes have been introduced to produce a completely revised Bulletin, in which both quality and relevance of disseminated data are enhanced. The objective of these changes is to provide a more effective tool for monitoring comparable data and indicators. This bilingual publication is in English and Arabic.

Book Synopsis Water-Energy-Food Nexus by : P. Abdul Salam
Download or read book Water-Energy-Food Nexus written by P. Abdul Salam and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-07-12 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Water, energy and food are key resources to sustain life, and are the fundamental to national, regional and global economies. These three resources are interlinked in multiple ways, and the term “nexus” captures the interconnections. The nexus has been discussed, debated, researched, and advocated widely but the focus is often on the pairings of “water-energy” or “water-food” or “energy-food”. To really benefit from the nexus approach in terms of resource use efficiency it is essential to understand, operationalize and practice the nexus of all three resources. As demand for these resources increases worldwide, using them sustainability is a critical concern for scientists and citizens, governments and policy makers. Volume highlights include: Contributions to the global debate on water-energy-food nexus Examples of the nexus approach in practice from different regions of the world Perspectives on the future of the nexus agenda Water-Energy-Food Nexus: Theories and Practices is a valuable resource for students, research scholars and professionals in academic institutions with strong interests in interdisciplinary research involving geography, earth science, environmental science, environmental management, sustainability science, international development, and ecological economics. The volume will also be useful for professionals, practitioners and consultants in /NGOs, government, and international agencies. Book Synopsis The Future of Christian Marriage by : Mark Regnerus
Download or read book The Future of Christian Marriage written by Mark Regnerus and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2020-08-01 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marriage has come a long way since biblical times. Women are no longer property, and practices like polygamy have long been rejected. The world is wealthier, healthier, and more able to find and form relationships than ever. So why are Christian congregations doing more burying than marrying today? Explanations for the recession in marriage range from the mathematical--more women in church than men--to the economic, and from the availability of sex to progressive politics. But perhaps marriage hasn't really changed at all. Instead, there is simply less interest in marriage in an era marked by technology, gender equality, and secularization. Mark Regnerus explores how today's Christians find a mate within a faith that esteems marriage but in a world that increasingly yawns at it. This book draws on in-depth interviews with nearly two hundred young-adult Christians from the United States, Mexico, Spain, Poland, Russia, Lebanon, and Nigeria, in order to understand the state of matrimony in global Christian circles today. Regnerus finds that marriage has become less of a foundation for a couple to build upon and more of a capstone. Meeting increasingly high expectations of marriage is difficult, though, in a free market whose logic reaches deep into the home today. The result is endemic uncertainty, slowing relationship maturation, and stalling marriage. But plenty of Christians innovate, resist, and wed, and this book argues that the future of marriage will be a religious one.

Book Synopsis Human Resources and Development in the Arabian Gulf by : The Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research
Download or read book Human Resources and Development in the Arabian Gulf written by The Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research and published by Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research. This book was released on 2010-08-26 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The six member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) have achieved substantial development progress in recent decades, as is evidenced by their high rankings within the United Nations Development Programme’s Human Development Index (HDI). Despite these achievements, however, the process of development in the GCC states still faces numerous challenges, the most significant of which relate to national human resources. Indeed, it is fair to say that the success of ongoing development efforts in the GCC states will largely be decided by how they manage, employ and develop their human capital. This book comprises a valuable collection of the papers presented at the ECSSR 14th Annual Conference, “Human Resources and Development in the Arabian Gulf,” held in Abu Dhabi on February 2–4, 2009. The papers contained herein represent a contemporary examination of: the different development strategies available to the GCC states; the challenges facing human resource development in the GCC countries; the problems facing GCC labor markets; opportunities and potential for investment in human capital; the many obstacles to sustainable development in the Gulf; and other relevant topics.
