In addition to the basic science dimensions of trauma nursing, the book also addresses clinical, psychosocial, and psychological aspects of care. Its structured approach to patient management presents information in an easy-to-follow format. Research evidence is used throughout to support the text, laying the foundation for expert nursing practice. Multidisciplinary approach makes the book relevant to current practice. Key learning points are highlighted with the text to help direct the reader's attention and encourage learning. A wide range of expert contributors makes the book a credible and authoritative source. Easy-to-understand chapters on fundamental biosciences expand readers' knowledge. Extensive illustrations, line drawings, and easy-to-read tables provide clear, visual explanations of important material. Appropriate references and recommended sources for further reading help readers develop knowledge and insight. Structured textbook format facilitates learning, enables information to be found quickly, and makes the book more user-friendly. Book excerpt: Casemix system or Diagnosis-Related Groups (DRGs) has been implemented in UKM-Medical Centre, currently known as Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz UKM, since 2002 with the deployment of a locally developed MY-DRG casemix grouper. Coding of diagnosis and procedures using ICD-10 and ICD9-CM are among the major variables required for optimum implementation of casemix system. The impact of coding errors on hospital revenue and budget has rarely been assessed in countries that implement casemix system for provider's reimbursement. This book reports an outcome of the first study done in Malaysia to quantify the economic losses due to coding errors. A blinded re-coding process was conducted to evaluate the quality of clinical coding of randomly selected patient medical records from four major specialities in the hospital: Medical, Surgical, Paediatrics and Obstetrics & Gynaecology. The rates of overall coding errors were identified, and the different types of coding errors were analysed and reported in detail. The amount of losses in hospital revenue due to coding errors were estimated in the study. Factors that led to the coding errors of diagnoses and procedures were analysed and presented in this book. It is hope that results of this unique research reported in this book would encourage leaders in hospital services to pay serious attention on the problems and embark on intensive and continues training of coders and other clinical staff to effectively reduce the coding errors in the implementation of casemix system.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How has the fashion industry responded to turn-of-the-millennium non-binary identities? Do they have a supportive or exploitative relationship with queer, trans and ageing subjects? Fashion, Identity, Image unpacks these questions and many more in relation to clothing and representation, identity and body politics in British, European and American culture between 1990 and 2020. Jobling, Nesbitt and Wong explore issues of intersectionality and inclusivity through groundbreaking shows, including Maria Grazia Chiuri's 'We Should All Be Feminists' catwalk show for Dior (Spring-Summer 2017), Alexander McQueen's 'The Widows of Culloden' collection (Fall-Winter 2006), and the role of transgender models such as Oslo Grace since 2015. Looking to the future of our relationship with fashion, there's also an investigation of the android as a redemptive figure in Alessandro Michele's cross-cultural cyborg collection for Gucci (Autumn-Winter 2018/2019) and the impact of the ageing population with analysis of age and memory in work such as Magali Nougarède's Crossing the Line (2002), and pleasure and morality in fashion publicity since the 1990s for the likes of Calvin Klein, D&G and American Apparel.

Book excerpt: The presence of women in the practice of medicine extends back to ancient times; however, up until the last few decades, women have comprised only a small percentage of medical students. The gradual acceptance of women in male-dominated specialties has increased, but a commitment to improving gender equity in the medical community within leadership positions and in the academic world is still being discussed. Gender Equity in the Medical Profession delivers essential discourse on strategically handling discrimination within medical school, training programs, and consultancy positions in order to eradicate sexism from the workplace. Featuring research on topics such as gender diversity, leadership roles, and imposter syndrome, this book is ideally designed for health professionals, doctors, nurses, hospital staff, hospital directors, board members, activists, instructors, researchers, academicians, and students seeking coverage on strategies that tackle gender equity in medical education.

Book excerpt: Increasing health literacy among patients is a difficult task as medical jargon and healthcare directions can be overwhelming and difficult to comprehend. In today’s digital world, people are more connected than ever before and have the ability to find healthcare information in a way that was not possible in recent years. Mass media and social media have become particularly influential in conveying health information to the public. With the amount of misinformation being spread, coupled with poor health literacy skills, it is imperative that new strategies and policies are undertaken to ensure that patients and the general public receive accurate information and are appropriately educated in order to provide them with the best possible knowledge and care. The Research Anthology on Improving Health Literacy Through Patient Communication and Mass Media provides an overview of the importance of health literacy and the various means to achieve health literacy for patients using several strategies and elements such as patient communication and mass media. The book covers health awareness challenges that have been faced recently and historically and pushes for better patient-provider communication. The book also examines the use of social media, virtual support groups, and technological tools that aid in the facilitation of health knowledge. Covering a range of key topics such as patient safety, health illiteracy, and eHealth, this anthology is crucial for healthcare professionals, researchers, academicians, students, and those interested in understanding the importance of health literacy and how it connects to media and communication.
