Book Synopsis Conifer, a Model of Carbon and Water Flow Through a Coniferous Forest by : Coniferous Forest Biome Modeling Group
Download or read book Conifer, a Model of Carbon and Water Flow Through a Coniferous Forest written by Coniferous Forest Biome Modeling Group and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CONIFER simulates water, carbon, and energy dynamics of a coniferous forest. The model consists of 29 nonlinear difference equations. Driving variables include air temperature, dew point temperature, precipitation, solar radiation, and wind speed. Water and energy variables are updated daily; carbon variables are updated weekly. This report contains a detailed description of the model including all equations, parameter values, and initial conditions. Cross-reference tables list the equations in which each variable and parameter appear. Listings of the driving variable data, computer implementation, and corresponding output are also provided. Information sources and model behavior are discussed elsewhere.

Book Synopsis Mammals in Western Coniferous Forest Ecosystems by : Hugh Clark Black
Download or read book Mammals in Western Coniferous Forest Ecosystems written by Hugh Clark Black and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume results from an experiment in data retrieval. During the initial stage of the Coniferous Forest Biome the authors were asked to provide access to the literature on mammals as it pertained to the interests of the Biome investigation. One constraint was that the total number of entries should not much exceed 1000. Another was that no new items would be added after the project was undertaken (1971). In order to keep the total number of items within bounds, it was necessary to choose. In choosing, we emphasized the geographic location of the Biome Investigation, the Pacific Northwest, and the emphasis of most Biome studies, productivity and effects of forest manipulation. We attempted to include all mammal papers that would be useful both to vertebrate zoologists working within the fields of Biome interest and to their colleagues in other disciplines. Therefore both methodological and substantive papers are included. Taxonomy is derived from Ingles (1965) and, where necessary, from Walker et al. (1964).

Book Synopsis Forest Nutrition Management by : Dan Binkley
Download or read book Forest Nutrition Management written by Dan Binkley and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1986-10-01 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An integrated treatment of forest nutrition management that draws on the fields of silviculture, soil studies, ecology, and economics to provide broad-based information on how to enhance the nutritional status of forest soils in order to increase their long-term stand productivity. Covers the use of fertilizers to enhance biological nitrogen fixation and how the nutrition status of forests is affected by other operations, such as harvesting and site preparation. Includes methods for assessing nutrient status, the economics of nutrition management, and models to aid in decision making. Written for the non-specialist needing a clear conceptual base for applying forest nutrition science to management. Numerous examples of successful forest management illustrate concepts.

Book Synopsis Ecological Bulletins, Targets and Tools for the Maintenance of Forest Biodiversity by : Per Angelstam
Download or read book Ecological Bulletins, Targets and Tools for the Maintenance of Forest Biodiversity written by Per Angelstam and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-05-06 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Maintaining forest biodiversity by combining protection, management and restoration of forest and woodland landscapes is a central component of sustainable development. Evidence that there are threshold levels for how much habitat loss may be tolerated for viable populations of specialised species to be maintained. Policy-makers, businesses and managers pose questions about how to balance use of renewable forest resources and conserve biodiversity. Examples are presented on how biodiversity assessments can be made. Proposes how the critical gaps in our knowledge identified throughout the book could be filled through macroecological research and international co-operation.
