Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "One of the most hilarious autobiographies that has come out in a long time, this story of Buckskin Joe will entertain readers of all ages. . . . [Glenn Shirley] has done an excellent job in arranging and editing Hoyt's war diary, penciled notes, and other materials into a readable book. It makes a bully story."—Wayne Gard, Southwest Review In his lifetime Edward Jonathan Hoyt, better known as Buckskin Joe, staged more excitement than Buffalo Bill, Fairbanks and Flynn, Karl Wallenda, and Batman put together. Born in Canada in 1840, he fought in the Civil War, homesteaded in southern Kansas, chased outlaws as a U.S. marshal in the Cherokee Outlet, prospected for gold from Nova Scotia to Central America, and served as a troubleshooter for "Haw" Tabor, the Silver King of Leadville. But essentially he was an entertainer, specializing in fêtes of music and feats of strength and agility. The master of sixteen musical instruments, he played in frontier bands. An acrobat and aerialist, he toured in circuses, once walking a tightrope two thousand feet above the Royal Gorge. His last hurrah, before pursuing his fortune in the jungles of Honduras, was a tour in Pawnee Bill's Wild West show. Glenn Shirley, who edited Joe's journals, is the author of Law West of Fort Smith (also a Bison Book) and many other works on frontier and outlaw history.

Then the shooting started Malcolm Theodore Puddle is a twenty-one-year-old shipping clerk—from way back East. What is he doing out here? The Mountain Man's former neighbor, Humbolt Puddle, has died and left his crumbling six-hundred-acre ranch to his only living heir, just as a greedy and ruthless cattle baron is circling the Humbolt ranch like a ravenous vulture. Poor, unsuspecting Puddle is walking into a death trap. Smoke is the not the pitying kind. But any enemy of Smoke's neighbor is his enemy, too: Kill-crazy hired gunmen are threatening the whole valley and good men are dying. Puddle may not be much, but he's all Smoke has—as a take-no-prisoners mountain man and a timid tinhorn make for an army of two . . . in one hell of a fight.

During the days of trolleys and steamships, area businessmen created Celoron Park, Crystal Beach Park, and other fine local summer resorts. Decades later, lifelong memories were formed for neighborhood baby boomers who visited Glen Park and Fantasy Island, as well as one of New York State's finest theme parks, Darien Lake. Western New York has always been a proving ground for some of the nation's most famous roller coasters. The terrifying Cyclone, the fast and furious Silver Comet, and the extreme Ride of Steel have attracted the very bravest of visitors. In the new millennium, the summer tradition of visiting local amusement parks continues with a blend of family-orientated parks and theme parks that appeal to all ages.

Book excerpt: Life has certainly changed for the "Three Queens" of McNee station. Sarah Booth, Susan Dickson, and Little Duck had all just begun to settle down for their new lives in Colorado when trouble came rolling across the plains from the East. Friends, enemies, and complete strangers arrived in sprawling wagon trains, continuing to change the very dynamics of their lives. However, there is no greater catalyst than family, and for Sarah in particular it is about to become a very Full House indeed. The arrival of her father and her remaining sisters was bad enough, but how could it compare to the scandal and corruption they brought along? And what of Trot, the enterprising little donkey who brought them all the way West? Well, for Old Ben at least, his legacy begins and ends with the tale of a particularly wicked deer...
