Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new omnibus collecting volumes ten, eleven, and twelve of the Vampire Hunter D horror novel series! The hunt continues in the bizarre far future of 12,090 A.D, where the immortal vampire lords who were the only winners of mankind’s nuclear war still oppress the human survivors who have pushed the blood-drinking fiends back to the lawless Frontier. Yet humanity too remains as quick as ever to prey upon itself, and where the law can’t bring safety or justice, the crescent blade of D will—assuming you meet the half-vampire wanderer’s price! A treasure of tales awaits inside the oversize Vampire Hunter D Omnibus Book Four, beginning with Dark Nocturne, a collection of three novellas. In the title story, “Dark Nocturne,” D investigates a siren song luring young men to their death. In “An Ode to Imagined Fall,” the Hunter is caught between two lovers against a ritual sacrifice. In “Legend of the War Fiends,” two bioengineered veterans of a conflict long gone find the fight has still not ended. Then begins the epic four-part novel Pale Fallen Angel, complete in this omnibus, where D takes on perhaps his strangest job yet—escort Baron Byron Balazs, son of a vampire lord, on a treacherous journey to faraway Krauhausen. Not only does D demand a hundred times his usual fee, he exacts a vow that the Baron may not feed upon humans along the way! But even with his client’s price paid in precious metal, D knows that on the Frontier, trustworthiness is still more rare than gold… The Vampire Hunter D Omnibus Book Four collects volumes 10, 11, and 12 in author Hideyuki Kikuchi’s adventure horror series: Dark Nocturne, Pale Fallen Angel Parts One and Two, and Pale Fallen Angel Parts Three and Four. Illustrated by Final Fantasy artist Yoshitaka Amano, the legend of D endures!

Book Synopsis The Primitive Origination of Mankind by : Matthew Hale
Download or read book The Primitive Origination of Mankind written by Matthew Hale and published by . This book was released on 1677 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This text explores mankind's origins, as considered and examined in light of nature, with particular emphasis on the following parts and assertions: I. That according to the light of nature and natural reason, the visible world was not eternal, but had a beginning; II. That if there could be any imaginable doubt thereof, yet by the necessary evidence of natural light it does appear that mankind had a beginning, and that the successive generations of men were in their original form; III. That this truth is evident by demonstrative reason and arguments; IV. That there are moral evidences of the truth of this assertion, which are herein particularly expanded and examined; V. That those great philosophers that asserted this origination of mankind, both ancient and modern, that rendered it by hypothesis different from that of Moses, were mistaken--here the hypotheses of Aristotle, Plato, and others are examined, and the absurdity and impossibility of their theories are detected; VI. That the current author's theory explaining the creation of man and of the world, in general, abstractly considered without relation to the divine inspiration of the writer, is according to reason, and preferable to the sentiments of other philosophers; and VII. That the author has concluded the whole of this work with certain corollaries and deductions, necessarily flowing from the things thus asserted, as well touching the existence, the wisdom, power, and providence of Almighty God, as touching both the duty and happiness of mankind"--Foreword. Book Synopsis Monsters and Monstrosity by : Daniela Carpi
Download or read book Monsters and Monstrosity written by Daniela Carpi and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2019-06-17 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every culture knows the phenomenon of monsters, terrifying creatures that represent complete alterity and challenge every basic notion of self and identity within a cultural paradigm. In Latin and Greek culture, the monster was created as a marvel, appearing as something which, like transgression itself, did not belong to the assumed natural order of things. Therefore, it could only be created by a divinity responsible for its creation, composition, goals and stability, but it was triggered by some in- or non-human action performed by humans. The identification of something as monstrous denotes its place outside and beyond social norms and values. The monster-evoking transgression is most often indistinguishable from reactions to the experience of otherness, merging the limits of humanity with the limits of a given culture. The topic entails a large intersection among the cultural domains of law, literature, philosophy, anthropology, and technology. Monstrosity has indeed become a necessary condition of our existence in the 21st century: it serves as a representation of change itself. In the process of analysis there are three theoretical approaches: psychoanalytical, representational, ontological. The volume therefore aims at examining the concept of monstrosity from three main perspectives: technophobic, xenophobic, superdiversity. Today’s globalized world is shaped in the unprecedented phenomenon of international migration. The resistance to this phenomenon causes the demonization of the Other, seen as the antagonist and the monster. The monster becomes therefore the ethnic Other, the alien. To reach this new perspective on monstrosity we must start by examining the many facets of monstrosity, also diachronically: from the philological origin of the term to the Roman and classical viewpoint, from the Renaissance medical perspective to the religious background, from the new filmic exploitations in the 20th and 21st centuries to the very recent ethnological and anthropological points of view, to the latest technological perspective , dealing with artificial intelligence.
