Their collecting began in the late 1970s and over the subsequent thirty years they assembled one of the most comprehensive collections of modern British and Irish glass. Dan Klein held directorships in Christie's auction house and, among other appointments, was Professor of Glass and Ceramics at the University of Sunderland for eleven years. He was one of the first people to collect and write about British post-war glass. Together with Alan J.Poole he formed a company to promote contemporary glass with an emphasis on the work of artists from Britain and Ireland including Sam Herman, Alison Kinnaird, Colin Reid, Karl Herron, David Reekie, Katharine Coleman and Tessa Clegg.
