Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brihad Bhagavatamrita is the key to the discovery of India’s national heritage. It represents the pathway to the entrance of the spiritual world. This book was written in Sanscript 500 years ago by one of the six Goswamies of Vrindaban. Sanatana Goswami, who was directed to write this book for the benefit of all mankind by Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu God Himself, incarnated as a devotee. As you may know, He is Krsna Himself, appearing in W. Bengal, Mayapur to show the pathway back home back to His abode, Goloka Vrindaban. The words are sacred and divinely inspired by God Himself. There is a matter of responsibility for all of mankind, especially all Indians, to realise this message is the absolute truth and to propagate this sacred work throughout the world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Srila Sanatana Gosvami’s book Sri Brhad Bhagavatamrta is a gemlike `example of the quest genre, but different from the sort commonly encountered in fable and fiction. Narada and Gopa-kumara, the respective heroes of this book’s two parts, are searching for a key to fulfillment much subtler than wealth, influence, mundane love, the Fountain of Youth, or even the Holy Grail. Narada has vast experience of the cosmos, Gopa-kumara is illiterate and naive, yet they share the same vision of what is most valuable. What both want is not to conquer or exploit on any level, but to explore the mystery of selfless service. As Narada already knows, and Gopa-kumara will gradually learn, the superior mode of life they seek is personal and defined by the interplay of those who take part in it, rather than by material laws of nature.

Book excerpt: Among the priceless books contributed by Srila Sanatana Gosvami to the literary heritage of the Gaudiya Vaishnavas, his Sri Krsna-lila-stava is the shortest and simplest. An offering of praise in 432 verses, it gives a personal meditation of Krishna's Vrindavana pastimes as told by Sukadeva in Srimad-Bhagavatam. This is an authentic spiritual work that has inspired Gaudiya Vaishnavas for centuries. Able to touch both heart and mind, it steps forward from a living tradition to bear witness to the working of the spirit. This edition of the Sri Krsna-lila-stava is especially praiseworthy because it gives a scholarly but easily understandable translation of the Sanskrit text interspersed with helpful and sensitive commentaries. In Sri Krsna-lila-stava, Sanatana evokes remembrances of Krishna's childhood pastimes by summarizing Sukadeva's narration in simple verses. These verses give us a taste of Krishna's Vrindavana pastimes, one after another, thus immersing us in the nectar of the Bhagavatam.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The hero’s quest for the extraordinary – an ever-recurring theme in literature – reflects the urge of every heart at its noblest to discover the full possibilities of life. Anyone dissatisfied with the scant potential of mundane existence is naturally stimulated by the prospect of finding, even vicariously, a world of greater liberty. There should be some better place for the soul. Why should happiness be so elusive, and why should confusion and resentment always shroud the mind’s eye, making it unable to see clearly what is in front of it? Srila Sanatana Gosvami’s Brhad-bhagavatamrta, written in Sanskrit nearly five hundred years ago, is a gemlike example of the quest genre, but different from the sort commonly encountered in fable and fiction. Narada and Gopa-kumara, the respective heroes of this book’s two parts, are searching for a key to fulfillment much subtler than wealth, influence, mundane love, the Fountain of Youth, or even the Holy Grail. Narada has vast experience of the cosmos; Gopa-kumara is illiterate and naive; yet they share the same vision of what is most valuable. What both want is not to conquer or exploit on any level, but to explore the mystery of selfless service. As Narada already knows, and Gopa-kumara will gradually learn, the superior mode of life they seek is personal and defined by the interplay of those who take part in it, rather than by material laws of nature. In Volume One of Sri Brhad-Bhagavatamrta, the great sage Narada, a pure devotee of Krishna, travels from earth to heaven and the spiritual world in search of the greatest recipient of Krishna's mercy. As he proceeds on his journey, Narada meets many pure devotees of Krishna and gives evidence to show how that devotee has been favored by Krishna. Each devotee, embarrassed to hear himself praised, recommends that Narada visit another devotee. Narada sees greater and greater manifestations of Krishna's mercy, until he finds those pure souls who embody the complete manifestation of Krishna's mercy – the exalted gopis of Vraja. Join Narada on his quest and discover his awe, love, and deepest appreciation as he grasps the gopis' position as Krishna's best devotees.

Book excerpt: Sanātana Gosvāmī wrote Bṛhad-vaiṣṇava-toṣaṇī, an elaborate commentary on the Tenth Canto to explain in detail what Śrīdhara Svāmī covered briefly, and to give devotional meaning where Śrīdhara Svāmī gave brahmanvada explanations. Jīva Gosvāmī wrote Laghu-vaiṣṇava-toṣaṇī as a summary version of Bṛhad-vaiṣṇava-toṣaṇī. The commentaries on first eight chapters of the Tenth Canto are virtually the same but after that point there are increasing differences. Ultimately this commentary is approximately same size as the Bṛhad-vaiṣṇava-toṣaṇī. He completed this work in Śakābda 1504.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lord Shiva, the most mystical and enigmatic deity of the Vedic pantheon, remains the most popular and yet, the least understood personality. From being the destroyer to the most compassionate, being the personification of anger to the one who is easily pleased, living a life of complete detachment from the material to blessing his worshipers with material opulence, he remains a perfect puzzle to most. Lord Shiva is often depicted in deep meditation, symbolizing transcendence and inner peace. With his third eye, he represents wisdom and insight, capable of both annihilating ignorance and bestowing enlightenment. As the lord of renunciation, he challenges devotees to transcend worldly attachments and embrace spiritual ascension. Yet, he is also the benevolent protector, offering solace and guidance to those in need. This book explores the side of Shiva that is completely hidden from us, giving us a deeper insight into the unexplored personality that he is.

Book excerpt: Normally people consider their body to be themselves. They identify with the flesh and blood thinking "I am the son of so-and-so, I am a man or woman, I am young or old", etc. However, although this material identity is what everyone identifies with it is from another perspective a very temporary 'self', since in a number of years the body will no longer exist. Yet, scientifically speaking with knowledge of the nature of consciousness, the actual self , the soul, does not cease to exist. Rather it continues to exist in a different framework or a different set of situations that we refer to as karmic. In other words the activities performed in one life, result in the soul accepting another body in another mother as per the level of consciousness of the individual. This does not just happen once but for many countless lifetimes according to the ancient Vedic scriptures of India. I, the soul, am not born nor do I die. I am part and parcel of the Supreme Eternal Soul, and just like a spark of sunlight is qualitatively one with the sun, I am also eternal. My identity is spiritual substance that manifests life after life in a material body awarded by nature according to my degree of awareness. When the awareness is heightened through spiritual development then subsequently the body one receives will be well endowed and if the awareness is low then the body achieved after death will be lacking in different ways. The point here is that our self, our being, our real identity is spirit soul and not the temporary material manifestation of material elements. This has to be realized with the help of realized souls who know the truth behind existence. Such truth is herewith elaborated to make it simple and clear as to who we really are.

Book excerpt: Yoga means to link. Links with the bond of love are the strongest. Therefore yoga in real terms means 'bhakti' or the yoga of devotion which is the summit of all yoga disciplines. Karma-yoga, gyana-yoga and bhakti are the three primary levels of yoga practice. Karma-yoga does not award liberation from 'samsara' or the repeated cycle of birth and death. Gyana-yoga does award a type of liberation but generally that liberation is temporary and destroys any type of divine relationship or service. Bhakti is natural and also eternally existent within the heart of the very soul and therefore far above all other yoga disciplines and goals. When the covering of the material energy is removed by regular sadhana then the dormant divine service attitude is revealed without extraneous endeavors for perfection. Once realized this knowledge will bestow the most blissful existence on the practitioner. Once one tastes the pleasure of devotional service in bhakti-yoga he feels as if even the so-called pleasure of impersonal liberation to be like a drop of water, compared to the ocean of transcendental bliss obtained in pure loving sentiments for the Supreme Absolute Personality of Godhead.
