Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When I was young, my mother used to read bedtime stories to me, such as: Last of the Mohicans, the Deerslayer, Kidnapped, Treasure Island, Mody Dick, and my all-time favorite, - The Red Badge of Courage. “When God Whistled Dixie” is officially my tribute to Stephen Crane. He definitely inspired me! So has George Orwell, C.S. Lewis, Pierre Burton, and Michael Shaara. It’s more than that though. I wrote it for my mother, to thank her for reading to me. It was such a joy to write that I never wanted it to end. I served briefly on the largest municipal police force in Canada, straight out of highschool. I wasn’t ready, emotionally, to handle the things I was exposed to, and the career did not last. It should have. “Bringing Home The Bacon” is based on my own experience, but with things changed, just a little. I may not have had a long career in blue, but I saw, and experienced a lot in the brief time that I served, and there will be more stories, God willing, in future volumes of Brain Muffins, based on my police experiences. The last story, “The Secret Keeper,” is for my grandson. My son grew up loving comic book superheroes. He also likes horror stories. Neither genre was ever a favorite of mine, but if I was only writing for me, there would be no need to write anything down, since I’ll have read it as I wrote it. God willing, I will continue writing Brain Muffins, and in future there will be more episodes to the story that begins here.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recipe-- add a curvy Sassy Sunshine and a burly Lobsterman Grump together in a one-bed hotel room. Sprinkle in puzzles, tattoos, a baking competition, motorcycles, and an adorable dog. Mix well. Bake until hot and steamy on the inside. I may be the best baker in Shipbuilt, Maine, but to my senator mom, I’ve wasted my life…and my waistline. Mom demands I bring a +1 for her weekend birthday celebration, even though I don’t have a boyfriend or time. My application for the Pastries of the Northeast Competition is my golden ticket to buy Shipbuilt’s bakery, The Cream Puff. I have to perfect my recipes and run my annual cookie-palooza at the bakery. Birch is just one of a thousand tattooed, gruff lobstermen in Maine, right? Wrong, he is the perfect blend of no-nonsense to protect me from Mom's criticisms. But his sculpted body keeps me up at night, wondering how far down that tattoo goes. Solving one problem by being my fake date for the weekend might just complicate things. It's cold outside. The oven’s hot, and I’ve been burned before. He's sworn off romance, I've sworn off men from Maine. What could go wrong? You've Got Love and Cinnamon Rolls is a deliciously steamy one bed, fake dating, curvy girl + hot cinnamon roll hero with a guaranteed HEA. It’s the second standalone book of the Shipbuilt Shenanigans small-town series. The books can be read in any order, but the characters and town drama starts in book 1.

Sarah Britton's approach to plant-based cuisine is about satisfaction--foods that satiate on a physical, emotional, and spiritual level. Based on her knowledge of nutrition and her love of cooking, Sarah Britton crafts recipes made from organic vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans, lentils, nuts, and seeds. She explains how a diet based on whole foods allows the body to regulate itself, eliminating the need to count calories. My New Roots draws on the enormous appeal of Sarah Britton's blog, which strikes the perfect balance between healthy and delicious food. She is a "whole food lover," a cook who makes simple accessible plant-based meals that are a pleasure to eat and a joy to make. This book takes its cues from the rhythms of the earth, showcasing 100 seasonal recipes. Sarah simmers thinly sliced celery root until it mimics pasta for Butternut Squash Lasagna, and whips up easy raw chocolate to make homemade chocolate-nut butter candy cups. Her recipes are not about sacrifice, deprivation, or labels--they are about enjoying delicious food that's also good for you.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With our fast-paced lives, it is no wonder more than 50% of North Americans are overweight or obese, and there are record numbers of diabetes, heart attacks, strokes, and cancer. It is time to find a better way to live. Ace Your Health takes a huge topic and boils it down to simple, small shifts that you can easily integrate into your daily routine. The clever concept uses the fact that there are 52 weeks in the year and 52 cards in a deck. This book helps you "play your cards right" by making one simple play per week, and walks you through a year towards improved overall health. Each "card" lays out a concise, accessible explanation of why you want to make this shift and what background information you need to know. Then, it follows up with a real life assignment on how to apply this new knowledge and ends with a dead easy, crazy tasty recipe. While the spades, hearts, and clubs sections focus on food and eating habits, in the diamonds section you will find advice on sleeping better, reducing stress and anxiety, stretching, and many other aspects that will help round out a new healthier (and happier) lifestyle. You will never again be gambling with your own life once you Ace Your Health.

Book excerpt: A lot has changed since Towpath first rolled up its shutters 10 years ago on the Regent’s Canal in Hackney and everything but the toasted cheese sandwich was cooked from home across the bridge. And a lot hasn’t. It is still as much a social experiment as a unique and beloved eatery. What happens when seasonality means you close every year in November, because England’s cold, dark winters are simply inhospitable to hospitality from a little perch beside a shallow, manmade waterway that snakes through East London? What if you don’t offer takeaway coffees in the hopes that people will decide to stay awhile and watch the coots skittering across the water? If you don’t have a phone or a website, because you’d rather people just show up like (hungry) kids at a playground? Towpath is a collection of recipes, stories and photographs capturing the vibrant cafe’s food, community and place throughout the arc of its season – beginning just before the first breath of spring, through the dog days of summer and culminating – with fireworks! – before its painted shutters are rolled down again for winter.
