This book was released on 1978 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For three classes of singularly perturbed boundary value problems we study the existence of solutions which possess boundary, shock and corner layer behavior and we examine how these nonuniformities arise and how they influence one another. The keys to our analysis are the stability properties of solutions of corresponding reduced problems and the geometric properties of solutions of the boundary value problems inside such layers. Several examples of the theory are discussed in detail with a view to illustrating the naturalness of our approach.

This book was released on 2004-01-09 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many ecological phenomena may be modelled using apparently random processes involving space (and possibly time). Such phenomena are classified as spatial in their nature and include all aspects of pollution. This book addresses the problem of modelling spatial effects in ecology and population dynamics using reaction-diffusion models. * Rapidly expanding area of research for biologists and applied mathematicians * Provides a unified and coherent account of methods developed to study spatial ecology via reaction-diffusion models * Provides the reader with the tools needed to construct and interpret models * Offers specific applications of both the models and the methods * Authors have played a dominant role in the field for years Essential reading for graduate students and researchers working with spatial modelling from mathematics, statistics, ecology, geography and biology.

Download or read book Multiple Time Scale Dynamics written by Christian Kuehn and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-02-25 with total page 816 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an introduction to dynamical systems with multiple time scales. The approach it takes is to provide an overview of key areas, particularly topics that are less available in the introductory form. The broad range of topics included makes it accessible for students and researchers new to the field to gain a quick and thorough overview. The first of its kind, this book merges a wide variety of different mathematical techniques into a more unified framework. The book is highly illustrated with many examples and exercises and an extensive bibliography. The target audience of this book are senior undergraduates, graduate students as well as researchers interested in using the multiple time scale dynamics theory in nonlinear science, either from a theoretical or a mathematical modeling perspective.
Book Synopsis Singularly Perturbed Boundary Value Problems by : Matteo Dalla Riva
Download or read book Singularly Perturbed Boundary Value Problems written by Matteo Dalla Riva and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-10-01 with total page 672 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to the analysis of the basic boundary value problems for the Laplace equation in singularly perturbed domains. The main purpose is to illustrate a method called Functional Analytic Approach, to describe the dependence of the solutions upon a singular perturbation parameter in terms of analytic functions. Here the focus is on domains with small holes and the perturbation parameter is the size of the holes. The book is the first introduction to the topic and covers the theoretical material and its applications to a series of problems that range from simple illustrative examples to more involved research results. The Functional Analytic Approach makes constant use of the integral representation method for the solutions of boundary value problems, of Potential Theory, of the Theory of Analytic Functions both in finite and infinite dimension, and of Nonlinear Functional Analysis. Designed to serve various purposes and readerships, the extensive introductory part spanning Chapters 1–7 can be used as a reference textbook for graduate courses on classical Potential Theory and its applications to boundary value problems. The early chapters also contain results that are rarely presented in the literature and may also, therefore, attract the interest of more expert readers. The exposition moves on to introduce the Functional Analytic Approach. A reader looking for a quick introduction to the method can find simple illustrative examples specifically designed for this purpose. More expert readers will find a comprehensive presentation of the Functional Analytic Approach, which allows a comparison between the approach of the book and the more classical expansion methods of Asymptotic Analysis and offers insights on the specific features of the approach and its applications to linear and nonlinear boundary value problems.

This book was released on 2006-01-12 with total page 538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book contains a systematic treatment of the qualitative theory of elliptic boundary value problems for linear and quasilinear second order equations in non-smooth domains. The authors concentrate on the following fundamental results: sharp estimates for strong and weak solutions, solvability of the boundary value problems, regularity assertions for solutions near singular points.Key features:* New the Hardy – Friedrichs – Wirtinger type inequalities as well as new integral inequalities related to the Cauchy problem for a differential equation.* Precise exponents of the solution decreasing rate near boundary singular points and best possible conditions for this.* The question about the influence of the coefficients smoothness on the regularity of solutions.* New existence theorems for the Dirichlet problem for linear and quasilinear equations in domains with conical points.* The precise power modulus of continuity at singular boundary point for solutions of the Dirichlet, mixed and the Robin problems.* The behaviour of weak solutions near conical point for the Dirichlet problem for m – Laplacian.* The behaviour of weak solutions near a boundary edge for the Dirichlet and mixed problem for elliptic quasilinear equations with triple degeneration.* Precise exponents of the solution decreasing rate near boundary singular points and best possible conditions for this.* The question about the influence of the coefficients smoothness on the regularity of solutions.* New existence theorems for the Dirichlet problem for linear and quasilinear equations in domains with conical points.* The precise power modulus of continuity at singular boundary point for solutions of the Dirichlet, mixed and the Robin problems.* The behaviour of weak solutions near conical point for the Dirichlet problem for m - Laplacian.* The behaviour of weak solutions near a boundary edge for the Dirichlet and mixed problem for elliptic quasilinear equations with triple degeneration.

Download or read book Elliptic Boundary Value Problems on Corner Domains written by Monique Dauge and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research monograph focusses on a large class of variational elliptic problems with mixed boundary conditions on domains with various corner singularities, edges, polyhedral vertices, cracks, slits. In a natural functional framework (ordinary Sobolev Hilbert spaces) Fredholm and semi-Fredholm properties of induced operators are completely characterized. By specially choosing the classes of operators and domains and the functional spaces used, precise and general results may be obtained on the smoothness and asymptotics of solutions. A new type of characteristic condition is introduced which involves the spectrum of associated operator pencils and some ideals of polynomials satisfying some boundary conditions on cones. The methods involve many perturbation arguments and a new use of Mellin transform. Basic knowledge about BVP on smooth domains in Sobolev spaces is the main prerequisite to the understanding of this book. Readers interested in the general theory of corner domains will find here a new basic theory (new approaches and results) as well as a synthesis of many already known results; those who need regularity conditions and descriptions of singularities for numerical analysis will find precise statements and also a means to obtain further one in many explicit situtations.
