Book Synopsis Same Ole Or Something New by : Carolyn LaDelle Bennett
Download or read book Same Ole Or Something New written by Carolyn LaDelle Bennett and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-05-12 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Same Ole builds a bridge of global voices to Something New. Starting out in a darkened chasm of Washington war chronicles, deficit leadership and warped values, the book crosses bridges crafted by artists' introspective songs of protest; then turns a full beam on five continents' unconventional thought and activism contributive to uprooting power entrenchment-uprooting the regressive is. At the heart of Same Ole or Something New is the belief that we can and must do better - the way it is wrong and it does not have to be this way. A world multifaceted in cultures, traditions and histories, issues and insight, experiences and contributions requires unconventional thought, multi-diverse input, consent and competence in a process of re-recreation. The regressive ¯is must be undone. Same Ole's second half brings light to global voices and ideas outside the mainstream, which are eminently capable of uprooting power entrenchment. They personify Something New.
Download or read book Family Men written by Laura King and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2020-01-09 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fathers are often neglected in histories of family life in Britain. Family Men provides the first academic study of fathers and families in the period from the First World War to the end of the 1950s. It takes a thematic approach, examining different aspects of fatherhood, from the duties it encompassed to the ways in which it related to men's identities. The historical approach is socio-cultural: each chapter examines a wide range of historical source materials in order to analyse both cultural representations of fatherhood and related social norms, as well as exploring the practices and experiences of individuals and families. It uncovers the debates surrounding parenting and family life and tells the stories of men and their children. While many historians have examined men's relationship to the home and family in histories of gender, family life, domestic spaces, and class cultures more generally, few have specifically examined fathers as crucial family members, as historical actors, and as emotional individuals. The history of fatherhood is extremely significant to contemporary debate: assumptions about fatherhood in the past are constantly used to support arguments about the state of fatherhood today and the need for change or otherwise in the future. Laura King charts men's changing experiences of fatherhood, suggesting that although the roles and responsibilities fulfilled by men did not shift rapidly, their relationships, position in the family, and identities underwent significant change between the start of the First World War and the 1960s.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the ninth volume of a comprehensive history that traces the “Presidential Line” of the Washingtons. Volume one began with the immigrant John Washington who settled in Westmoreland Co., Va., in 1657, married Anne Pope, and was the great-grandfather of President George Washington. It contained the record of their descendants for a total of seven generations. Subsequent volumes two through eight continued this family history for an additional eight generations, highlighting most notable members (volume two) and tracing lines of descent from the royalty and nobility of England and continental Europe (volume three). Volume nine collects over 8,500 descendants of the recently discovered line of William Wright (died in Franklin Co., Va., ca. 1809). It also provides briefer accounts of five other early Wright families of Virginia that have often been mentioned by researchers as close kinsmen of George Washington, including: William Wright (died in Fauquier Co., Va., ca. 1805), Frances Wright and her husband Nimrod Ashby, and William Wright (died in Greensville Co., Va., by 1827). A cumulative index will complete the series as volume ten.

Book Synopsis From Bulkeley to Bulkley to Buckley by : Thomas Taylor
Download or read book From Bulkeley to Bulkley to Buckley written by Thomas Taylor and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2008-01-09 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing from a wide range of sources, this work is a continuation of one line of the Bulkeley family, focusing on the ancestors and descendants of Moses Bulkley (1727-1812) last presented in The Bulkeley Genealogy by Donald Lines Jacobus in 1933. The relationship between the earliest American ancestors on this line, Reverend Peter Bulkeley and Reverend John Jones, founders of the First Parish Church in Concord, Massachusetts in 1636, is re-examined. New evidence revealing critical errors made by Concord historians since 1835 will re-characterize the essential clerical friendship the two men shared and show the true reasons for John Jones's removal to Fairfield, Connecticut in 1644. Using census records, rare newspaper articles, obituaries, wills, surrogate court records, and family stories, this line of the Bulkeleys of Concord and Fairfield is chronicled in a new family history covering the mid-18th century to the present. The Bulkeley/Bulkley/Buckley genealogy is supplemented with genealogies of several families these Bulkeley/Bulkley/Buckleys married with in the 19th and 20th centuries. This work evolved into a "search and rescue mission," and offers a comprehensive on-paper reunion of families that have been documented to the beginning of the 20th century, and a few who have never been documented in a genealogy.
