"Before I formed you in the belly, I knew you, and before you came out of the womb I set you apart" (Jeremiah 1:5, ISR). Psalm 23 is a song sung about a life starting and experiencing the tests of discovering our purpose and who is with us as we go through the birth canal until eternity. 1. I am convinced that even before I was in my mother's womb the Lord was my Shepherd; with Him I never experienced lack. 2. He instructed me in the comfort of the womb to lie down in green pastures as He spoke to me throughout my journey. I was guided beside still waters parting the way into this world. The river of life spoke through the Lord as a Spirit of comfort and calm embraced me. 3. Leaving the comfort of mercy (Heb: Rachem=womb) when I entered the world and made wrong choices the Lord turns back my being; He leads me on the cycles of righteousness. This was the beginning of my restoration birth. I was told this journey is not just about you, but you are a voice telling people who I am. I learned His name, and this was one of the most important aspects of this message. 4. As I ran my race then walked through the valley of the shadow of death, I did not fear because He told me I did not give you a spirit of fear. I gave you a spirit of love and power through my Spirit and a steadfast mind toward Me. I Am with you. The Lord disciplined me when I needed it, and that was a comfort because He was all about preserving my life as any good Father desires. 5. I recognized the tables as the tablets He set before me in the presence of my enemies. These commandments were needed, so I looked at them and not the faces of my enemies. As time continues, this journey with the Lord of Restoration sets me apart by anointing my mind and my life overflowing with a desire to listen and obey His Word and influence others to consider this journey of restoration. 6. As a result of repentance, only goodness and loving commitment follows me. And now I know my journey is to dwell in the house of the Lord to the length of days!

Book excerpt: (Applause Books). "There is no book about Hollywood as riveting as this documentary." - Allan Carr, Vanity Fair There is no question that the 1954 version of A STAR IS BORN holds a special place in the pantheon of classic movies. It was director George Cukor's first foray into musicals, his first color film, and it was, without a doubt, Judy Garland's greatest screen performance. With incredible detail and color, Ronald Haver gives us the fascinating story of the making, marketing and restoration of this groundbreaking classic. Here is how producer Sid Luft orchestrated the deal for his wife, how Cukor was selected to direct, how James Mason was cast to co-star and how Moss Hart's script was developed. Here are the myriad techincal problems, the clashes of personalities and the shocking emotional ups and downs of the film's star. Here, finally, is the author's own mission to restore the film to its original length and glory in the 1980s.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THIS IS NO TIME TO RUN AND HIDE America seems to be crumbling from within. Having abandoned the Judeo-Christian values that are the foundation of its culture, our nation, in the eyes of many, is going the way of the great civilizations of the past. If our 250-year experiment in ordered liberty has really run its course, is it time to recognize the inevitable, pack up our families, and head for the hills, hunkering down through the dark days to come? Or is there hope for an American restoration? Tim Goeglein and Craig Osten, battle-hardened veterans of the culture wars, know as well as anyone that the decadence is undeniable. But they make the case that an American restoration is not only possible, but probable—if we act now. The key is for Christians to engage with the culture, not flee from it, to be the salt and light that will renew it from within. That engagement must take place especially at the local level, where real spiritual and cultural transformation occurs. If America returns to its spiritual foundations, the tumultuous times we live in will be nothing more than a bumpy detour in our nation’s history. This book is a roadmap for the way back. In this clear-eyed but hopeful guide to restoration, Goeglein and Osten explain how patriotic Americans, with God’s help, can renew fifteen critical components of our culture. Government will not provide the solutions we desperately need. The solutions lie in our churches, our communities, and our homes. The light for our path is faith. As that light pierces the darkness, America will experience a reawakening, regeneration, and renewal.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scores of birthplace monuments and historic childhood homes dot the American landscape. These special places, many dating to the early years of the last century, have enshrined nativity alongside patriotism and valor among the key pillars of the nation's popular historical imagination. The essays in this volume suggest that the way Americans have celebrated famous births reflects evolving expectations of citizenship as well as a willingness to edit the past when those hopes go unfulfilled. The contributors also demonstrate that the reinvention of origin myths at birthplace monuments still factors in American political culture and the search for meaning in an ever-shifting global order. Beyond asking why it is that Americans care about birthplaces and how they choose which ones to commemorate, Born in the U.S.A. offers insights from historians, curators, interpretive specialists, and others whose experience speaks directly to the challenges of managing historical sites. Each essay points to new ways of telling old stories at these mainstays of American memory. The case of the modern house museum receives special attention in a provocative concluding essay by Patricia West. In addition to West and the editor, contributors include Christine Arato, Dan Currie, Keith A. Erekson, David Glassberg, Anna Thompson Hajdik, Zachary J. Lechner, Paul Lewis, Hilary Iris Lowe, Cynthia Miller, Laura Lawfer Orr, Robert Paynter, Angela Phelps, and Paul Reber.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wil Rogan argues that, contrary to twentieth-century interpretation, the Fourth Gospel did not replace purity with faith in Jesus. Instead, as with other early Jewish writings, its discourse about purity functions as a way to make sense of life before God in the world. He suggests that John's Gospel employs biblical and early Jewish traditions of purity associated with divine revelation and Israel's restoration to narrate how God's people are prepared for the coming of Jesus and enabled by him to have life with God characterized by love. After evaluating different theories of purity for the interpretation of the Fourth Gospel, Rogan explores John the Baptist as an agent of ritual purification, Jesus as the agent of moral purification, and the disciples of Jesus as ones who are (or are not) made morally pure by Jesus. While purity is not one of the Fourth Gospel's primary focuses, Rogan stresses that the concept figures into some of its most significant claims about Christology, the doctrine of salvation, and ethics. Through purity, the Fourth Gospel guards continuity with the past while placing surprising conditions on participation in Israel's future.

Book excerpt: ‘The revolutions of 1989’ remains the standard term used to describe the onset of post-communist transformations more than thirty years ago. Zenonas Norkus proposes a completely new perspective, theorising them as the next wave of modern social restorations, starting with the post-Napoleonic restorations in 1815. A comparison of the 1789 French and 1917 Russian revolutions was seminal for the rise of comparative historical and sociological research on modern revolutions. The book extends and supplements the sociology of modern revolutions by the first systematic outline of the sociology of modern social restorations grounded in a comparison of post-Napoleonic and post-communist restorations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, The Schism of Unification Church and the Tree of Life (Part I), is a revised version of the 4th volume of the History of the Korean Messianic Movement published in 2016 and contains the core of the extensive data used in the 5th volume, A Study of the Canonization the Unification Movement(2017); the 6th volume, Unification Church and the Phenomenon of the Only Begotten Daughter (2017); the 7th volume, The Veritable Records of Unification Church Schism (2021); and the 8th volume, The only-begotten daughter phenomenon seen from the Unification Principle (2023). This book also contains content not covered in the first edition and the changed situation of Unification Church since 2016. Nonetheless, I put the word (part 1) in the title because the detailed story of the schism of Unification Church after the founder’s Seunghwa, which could not be contained in this book on the page, will be covered soon in the other book. The reason why I titled this book "The Schism of Unification Church and the Tree of Life" is that although the division of the Unification Movement caused by the failure of Han Hak-ja to do her responsibilities led to tragic results, providence and anti-providence, principle and non-principle, good and evil were distinguished during the process of division, and, certainly, the Unification Movement will soon be overcome and enter the path of revitalization by the Tree of Life of the heavenly lineage that has risen from the dead. This book focused on comparing the identities and deeds of the major figures identified in the process of Unification Church's split, namely Han Hak-ja, Moon Hyung-jin, and Moon Hyun-jin, based on the identity of the founder and the Unification Principle, which is the core teaching. Through this book, readers will be able to accurately understand the causes, processes, and consequences of Unification Church schism and will be able to predict the future. In the conclusion of the first edition, I mentioned that the phenomenon of Han Hak-ja's only begotten daughter is a new religious phenomenon with a different identity from the phenomenon of Unification Church of the founder. Although divided, I predicted that Unification Church would not collapse but would go the path of revitalization. and that the third son of the founder, Moon Hyun-jin, would lead the revitalization. In retrospect, my prediction was correct to some extent. Han Hak-ja, who was the cause of the schism in Unification Church, became one with the fallen archangel figures who destroyed the providence of the True Family and created a new religion to worship the only begotten daughter, Heavenly Parents Holy Community, which clashed with the Unification Principle. On the other hand, Moon Hyun-jin, who was expelled from the Unification Movement by Han Hak-ja and the anti-Moon Hyun-jin forces who tried to wipe out his providential mission, won nearly a decade of persecution and more than 30 lawsuits, and declared that he would re-establish the ideal of the True Family and True Parents, which had been incomplete due to the fall of Han Hak-ja, and dedicate the original Foundation Day before Heaven. As time passes, the inner story and truth of Unification Church schism will become clearer. I wrote this book from both the perspectives of a new religion researcher, an objective observer, and an insider, a believer. The collection and analysis of data to understand the facts and inner story of the incident was done from the perspective of an observer, and the internal causes of Unification Church split, changes in identity and doctrine, and the nature and religious significance of various events and situations that are difficult to understand for a simple observer was described from an insider's point of view.

Book excerpt: Wolves are some of the world's most charismatic and controversial animals, capturing the imaginations of their friends and foes alike. Highly intelligent and adaptable, they hunt and play together in close-knit packs, sometimes roaming over hundreds of square miles in search of food. Once teetering on the brink of extinction across much of the United States and Europe, wolves have made a tremendous comeback in recent years, thanks to legal protection, changing human attitudes, and efforts to reintroduce them to suitable habitats in North America. As wolf populations have rebounded, scientific studies of them have also flourished. But there hasn't been a systematic, comprehensive overview of wolf biology since 1970. In Wolves, many of the world's leading wolf experts provide state-of-the-art coverage of just about everything you could want to know about these fascinating creatures. Individual chapters cover wolf social ecology, behavior, communication, feeding habits and hunting techniques, population dynamics, physiology and pathology, molecular genetics, evolution and taxonomy, interactions with nonhuman animals such as bears and coyotes, reintroduction, interactions with humans, and conservation and recovery efforts. The book discusses both gray and red wolves in detail and includes information about wolves around the world, from the United States and Canada to Italy, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Israel, India, and Mongolia. Wolves is also extensively illustrated with black and white photos, line drawings, maps, and fifty color plates. Unrivalled in scope and comprehensiveness, Wolves will become the definitive resource on these extraordinary animals for scientists and amateurs alike. “An excellent compilation of current knowledge, with contributions from all the main players in wolf research. . . . It is designed for a wide readership, and certainly the language and style will appeal to both scientists and lucophiles alike. . . . This is an excellent summary of current knowledge and will remain the standard reference work for a long time to come.”—Stephen Harris, New Scientist “This is the place to find almost any fact you want about wolves.”—Stephen Mills, BBC Wildlife Magazine

There is a drastic shift in the national culture and churches today; which if not countered can make Christ extinct in one generation! In the midst of this shift many Christians have become confused and are blurring their kingdom mission, biblical worldview and life of godliness. Meanwhile, recent research reflects some 2 billion people in the world who have never heard the saving gospel of Jesus Christ; and billions more caught up in false religions. In the shift many Christians individually and corporately are failing in their responsibility to pass on the faith, wisdom, and godly example to the next generation. Failure to do so in one generation will remove Christ and Christianity from the next generation (s). To meet this challenge we must radically restore the faith (see Jude 3) for the final hour: Restore [agape] love for God and others in the Church Restore and teach a true biblical worldview in the Church Restore biblical salvation and a daily walk with Christ in the Church Restore total dependence upon the Holy Spirit in the Church The secular worldview secures more Christian casualties daily. But by His divine power, God has given us all things that pertain to a life of godliness ..... (see 2 Peter 1:3).

Book excerpt: “A tremendous talent.” —Boston Globe “Restoration is an elegantly constructed work of fiction, seamlessly moving between the past and the present.” —Ron Rash, bestselling author of Serena Acclaimed novelist Olaf Olafsson brings us Restoration, a sweeping story of love tested by human frailty and the terrors and tragedies of war. Departing from the landscapes of his native Iceland—so beautifully evoked in Absolution, The Journey Home, and other previous works—Olafson sets Restoration in the gorgeous Italian hills of Tuscany during the World War Two years of the early 1940s. He captivates readers with a deeply emotional story in the vein of The English Patient by Michael Ondaajte, Ian McEwan’s Atonement, and other contemporary literary classics, spinning a tale of passion, art, war, and betrayal centered around a pair of love triangles and a forged Caravaggio.

Book excerpt: When the challenges you've faced threaten to destroy your life, how do you find your way back to the truths you thought you believed? I Am Restored tells the untold story of how Lecrae's past nearly ruined his future--until he learned that the wounds we carry can have the potential to be unlikely guides to healing and freedom for ourselves and others. Throughout I Am Restored, Lecrae documents the shattering yet hopeful story of how he faced the scars of his past--sexual abuse, physical trauma, addiction, and depression--and emerged more fully human than ever before. With remarkable transparency and vulnerability, Lecrae reveals that at the height of his professional success, his life was spinning out of control, driven by a past that he had never confronted and a religious perspective that was incapable of meeting the challenge. I Am Restored takes an unflinching look at the personal and public spaces that are too often at the societal core of our pain and heartache--culture, politics, family, church, and more--and teaches us that forgiveness can be the birthplace of the life that God has created for us. Throughout this powerful, deeply personal account, Lecrae shares the life lessons he's learned about: Confronting the pain and trauma that has shaped your story Breaking the cycle of sin and shame and embracing joy and authenticity Finding hope and healing in the midst of chaos The simple practices that can change your mental, emotional, and spiritual health Leading a life that's bursting with creativity and true freedom I Am Restored is a hopeful, inspiring charge to start your journey to lasting healing today. No matter what your past has held, God is near you, he hears you, and he's not done writing your story.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A STRICTLY BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE MINISTRIES has developed the WORD FOCUS FELLOWSHIP GROUP, as a Christian alternative to the world's recovery system, which addresses addiction by teaching individuals how to manage sin (addiction) through behavioral modification. Jesus Christ did not give His life on Calvary so a Christian could learn to manage sin but so that they could be set free from the penalty, power and eventually the presence of sin. God's plan for addressing addiction is far superior to man's plan because it not only restores a believer physically, socially and psychologically but it addresses the root cause of addiction, spiritual death. God's plan, salvation spiritually changes a person's nature and provides the potential for their soul to be restored (mind, will, and emotions) as well and addresses all of life's issues. A "WORD FOCUSED" FELLOWSHIP GROUP (Level 1) is a highly interactive, open-ended discipleship group based on 5 Biblical principles. To advance from one principle to the next the group process requires an individual to learn a memory verse and complete a designated exercise that must be shared within the group. It is a discipleship series that takes the "Body of Christ" back to biblical basics founded on the doctrines of salvation: repentance, rebirth, justification, and adoption, positional and progressive holiness (sanctification). Emphasis is placed on a believer understanding and accepting their "new identity" in Christ enabling them to "Walk in the Spirit." It is designed with a biblically strategic format with a five-fold in purpose. A STRICTLY BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE MINISTRIES has developed a Facilitator Guide for use in conjunction with the "WORD FOCUSED" FELLOWSHIP GROUP. The Facilitator Guide is designed to assist counselors, lay counselors and mentors in facilitating the groups to assist participant in taking an in depth and personal view of the different factors in salvation which will assist them in developing an accurate view of their new identity in Christ.

Book excerpt: 'Restoring the First-century Church in the Twenty-first Century: Essays on the Stone-Campbell Restoration Movement in Honor of Don Haymes' is a snap-shot of a major American religious movement just after the turn of the millennium. When the ÒDisciplesÓ of Alexander Campbell and the ÒChristiansÓ of Barton Warren Stone joined forces early in the 19th century, the first indigenous ecumenical movement in the United States came into being. Two hundred years later, this American experiment in biblical primitivism has resulted in three, possibly four, large segments. Best known is the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), active wherever ecumenical Christians gather. The denomination is typically theologically open, having been reshaped by theological Liberalism and the Social Gospel in the twentieth century, and has been re-organized on the model of other Protestant bodies. The largest group, the Churches of Christ, easily distinguished by their insistence on 'a cappella' music (singing only), is theologically conservative, now tending towards the evangelical, and congregationally autonomous, though with a denominational sense of brotherhood. The Christian Churches/Churches of Christ (Independent) are a 'via media' between the two other bodies: theologically conservative and evangelical, congregationally autonomous, pastorally oriented, and comfortable with instrumental music. The fourth numerically significant group, the churches of Christ (Anti-Institutional), is a conservative reaction to the 'a cappella' churches, much in the way that the Southern ''a capella' churches reacted against the emerging intellectual culture and social location, instrumental music and institutional centrism of the Northern Disciples following the Civil War. Besides these four, numerous smaller fragments, typically one-article splinter groups, decorate the history of the Restoration Movement: One-Cup brethren, Premillennialists, No-Sunday-School congregations, No-Located-Preacher churches, and others. This movement to unite Christians on the basis of faith and immersion in Jesus Christ, and to restore New-Testament Christianity, is too little recognized on the American religious landscape, and it has been too little studied by the academic community. This volume is focused primarily on the 'a cappella' churches and their interests, but implications for the entire Stone-Campbell Restoration Movement abound. The voices that speak freely within were unimpeded in authoring these essays by standards of orthodoxy imposed from without. All of the contributors are acquainted with Don Haymes, the honoree of the volume, and have been inspired by this friend and colleague, a man with a rigorous and earthy intellect and a heavenly spirit. David Bundy, series editor Studies in the History and Culture of World Christianities
