Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Boomers, Zoomers, and Other Oomers is a humorous and upbeat look at aging from a baby boomer's perspective. This unforgettable book is filled with entertaining observations and musings on issues such as health decline, technology overwhelm, retirement, longevity, death, and other fun matters. This book will be of interest to not only boomers, but also to millennials, Gen Xers, and anybody else who has experienced the universal struggles of aging. Boomers are the epicenter of our generations. They've experienced everything from the milkman delivering bottles, to the first moon landing, to the very important invention of the sticky Post-it Note. Boomers baffle the younger generations, which don't even know what a milkman is. Throughout the book, the author expresses unique musings and stories like, -visiting Costco for shampoo and coming out with hearing aids; -trying to get a teller to break a $100 bill at a bank without cash or tellers; -longevity secrets: the list includes whisky, herring, and castration; -how our visiting an Apple store triggers a boomer alert; -retirement's greatest joy? a hole in one: just loafing; -whether Hippocrates conducted prostate examinations; -where to live: the elephant in the condo; -and much more Marcel Strigberger is buoyant throughout this masterful work of humor. He concludes that as we age, our ability to run marathons decreases. However, he also points out that while we are on the stage, we can still give a dynamite performance thanks to years of accumulated wisdom and experience.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of our 78 million baby boomers will spend much of this decade in the Risk Zone spanning the 10 years before and after retirement. Losses in the Risk Zone can make remaining lifetimes far less comfortable, and could make boomers a burden on society because $50 trillion is at stake.Following the Roaring 2010s, the odds of avoiding a market crash in this decade are incredibly low. This book explains why inflation and other threats are likely to burst bubbles in stock and bond markets, creating significant investment losses. Baby boomers should protect their savings at this critical time. Baby boomers need risk management, but most are not getting it. In the jargon of investing, boomers should be "risk off" to protect their lifetime savings. Importantly, baby boomers should:1.Review their current asset allocation. The Employee Benefits Research Institute (EBRI) reports that the average boomer is invested 60/40 stocks/bonds. This is a mix that lost more than 30% in 2008 and is poised to lose even more in the next market crash.2.Consider reducing risk and protecting against inflation. The book explains how to accomplish this.3.Use all the tools, like reverse mortgages, risk mitigation tools, Social Security and Medicare. Each chapter includes a link to a video on the topic from the Baby Boomer Investing Show. I believe this is unique and appealing. It's a fun way to delve into these highly informative and timely topics.

Book excerpt: How memetic media—aggregate texts that are collectively created, circulated, and transformed—become a part of public conversations that shape broader cultural debates. Internet memes—digital snippets that can make a joke, make a point, or make a connection—are now a lingua franca of online life. They are collectively created, circulated, and transformed by countless users across vast networks. Most of us have seen the cat playing the piano, Kanye interrupting, Kanye interrupting the cat playing the piano. In The World Made Meme, Ryan Milner argues that memes, and the memetic process, are shaping public conversation. It's hard to imagine a major pop cultural or political moment that doesn't generate a constellation of memetic texts. Memetic media, Milner writes, offer participation by reappropriation, balancing the familiar and the foreign as new iterations intertwine with established ideas. New commentary is crafted by the mediated circulation and transformation of old ideas. Through memetic media, small strands weave together big conversations. Milner considers the formal and social dimensions of memetic media, and outlines five basic logics that structure them: multimodality, reappropriation, resonance, collectivism, and spread. He examines how memetic media both empower and exclude during public conversations, exploring the potential for public voice despite everyday antagonisms. Milner argues that memetic media enable the participation of many voices even in the midst of persistent inequality. This new kind of participatory conversation, he contends, complicates the traditional culture industries. When age-old gatekeepers intertwine with new ways of sharing information, the relationship between collective participation and individual expression becomes ambivalent. For better or worse—and Milner offers examples of both—memetic media have changed the nature of public conversations.

Book excerpt: Debut novelist Miles Klee takes a landscape of drugs, decay, loss and, perhaps, hope, and manages to make the ensemble wryly funny: something only a few notable contemporaries such as Jeff Vandermeer and Michael Chabon have been able to do. Post-urban New Jersey is instantly recognizable in this interlinked series of short vignettes. . . . and Lev's living room is puddles of water and sun, and a bunch of those furry caterpillars are hauling themselves from surface to surface. Populated by a bumbling, murderous citizenry of corrupt cops, innocents, ravenous addicts, lovesick geniuses, and cynical adventurers, Ivyland operates in the shadow of a giant pharmaceutical corporation that thrives on people's weaknesses . . . and may have an even more sinister agenda. It's our world, only a bit more extreme, and lovingly, precisely depicted with the adept skills native to a master of dark humor.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sexual citizenship is a powerful concept associated with debates about recognition and exclusion, agency, respect and accountability. For young people in general and for gender and sexually diverse youth in particular, these debates are entangled with broader imaginings of social transitions: from ‘child’ to ‘adult’and from ‘unreasonable subject’ to one ‘who can consent’. This international and interdisciplinary collection identifies and locates struggles for recognition and inclusion in particular contexts and at particular moments in time, recognising that sexual and gender diverse young people are neither entirely vulnerable nor self-reliant. Focusing on the numerous domains in which debates about youth, sexuality and citizenship are enacted and contested, Youth, Sexuality and Sexual Citizenship explores young people’s experiences in diverse but linked settings: in the family, at school and in college, in employment, in social media and through engagement with health services. Bookended by reflections from Jeffrey Weeks and and Susan Talburt, the book’s empirically grounded chapters also engage with the key debates outlined in it's scholarly introduction. This innovative book is of interest to students and scholars of gender and sexuality, health and sex education, and youth studies, from a range of disciplinary and professional backgrounds, including sociology, education, nursing, social work and youth work.

With effective tools to recruit, retain, motivate, and manage each generation, you can now create teamwork, not war, in today's highperformance workplace . . . where at any age, productivity is what counts.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Images of faces, bodies, selves and digital subjectivities abound on new media platforms like Snapchat, Instagram, YouTube, and others-these images represent our new way of being online and of becoming socially mediated. Although researchers are examining digital embodiment, digital representations, and visual vernaculars as a mode of identity performance and management online, there exists no cohesive collection that compiles all these contemporary philosophies into one reader for use in graduate level classrooms or for scholars studying the field. The rationale for this book is to produce a scholarly fulcrum that pulls together scholars from disparate fields of inquiry in the humanities doing work on the common theme of the socially mediated body. The chapters in Mediated Interfaces: The Body on Social Media represent a diverse list of contributors in terms of author representation, inclusivity of theoretical frameworks of analysis, and geographic reach of empirical work. Divided into three sections representing three dominant paradigms on the socially mediated body: representation, presentation, and embodiment, the book provides classic, creative, and contemporary reworkings of these paradigms.
