Book Synopsis High Resolution Extremity CT for Biomechanics Modeling by :
Download or read book High Resolution Extremity CT for Biomechanics Modeling written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the advent of ever more powerful computing and finite element analysis (FEA) capabilities, the bone and joint geometry detail available from either commercial surface definitions or from medical CT scans is inadequate. For dynamic FEA modeling of joints, precise articular contours are necessary to get appropriate contact definition. In this project, a fresh cadaver extremity was suspended in parafin in a lucite cylinder and then scanned with an industrial CT system to generate a high resolution data set for use in biomechanics modeling.

Book Synopsis Finite Element Analysis of Bone Remodeling - Implementation of a Remodeling Algorithm in Matlab and Ansys by : Martin Groß
Download or read book Finite Element Analysis of Bone Remodeling - Implementation of a Remodeling Algorithm in Matlab and Ansys written by Martin Groß and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2008-08 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2006 in the subject Medicine - Biomedical Engineering, grade: 1.0, Technical University of Munich (LS Statik), course: Master of Science of Computational Mechanics, 94 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: The process of adaptive bone remodeling can be described mathematically and simulated in a computer model, integrated with the finite element method. The main focus of this thesis is the implementation of a bone remodeling algorithm in MATLAB and ANSYS on the basis of FEM. The strain energy density is used as mechanical stimulus. The cortical and trabecular bone are described as continuous materials with variable density. This thesis can be divided into four main parts. The first part is due to the material properties of cortical and trabecular bone. The second part is about the remodeling theory and gives an historical review of the developed numerical approaches up to now. The implementation of the remodeling algorithm in ANSYS and MATLAB as well as its validation is topic of part three. In last main part, the algorithm is applied to a 2D FE-model of a human proximal femur.
Book Synopsis Osteoporosis in Men by : Eric S. Orwoll
Download or read book Osteoporosis in Men written by Eric S. Orwoll and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2009-11-30 with total page 764 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the publication of the first edition, the U.S. Surgeon General released the first-ever report on bone health and osteoporosis in October 2004. This report focuses even more attention on the devastating impact osteoporosis has on millions of lives. According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, 2 million American men have osteoporosis, and another 12 million are at risk for this disease. Yet despite the large number of men affected, the lack of awareness by doctors and their patients puts men at a higher risk that the condition may go undiagnosed and untreated. It is estimated that one-fifth to one-third of all hip fractures occur in men. This second edition brings on board John Bilezikian and Dirk Vanderschueren as editors with Eric Orwoll. The table of contents is more than doubling with 58 planned chapters. The format is larger – 8.5 x 11. This edition of Osteoporosis in Men brings together even more eminent investigators and clinicians to interpret developments in this growing field, and describe state-of-the-art research as well as practical approaches to diagnosis, prevention and therapy. Brings together more eminent investigators and clinicians to interpret developments in this growing field Describes state-of-the-art research as well as practical approaches to diagnosis, prevention and therapy There is no book on the market that covers osteoporosis in men as comprehensively as this book

Book Synopsis Bone Research in Biomechanics by : G. Lowet
Download or read book Bone Research in Biomechanics written by G. Lowet and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 1997 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the structure of bone, and its consequences for the mechanical behaviour of the bone structure. The first part of this book focuses on the development of models to predict the adaptation of bone due to changes on the mechanical loading situation (such as provoked by an implant). But far more important than the computer power presently available, the incorporation of knowledge on the biological processes have led to new kinds of models. Next to the development of models itself, the issue of model validation though comparison with clinical data is a main issue addressed in the papers of this symposium. The second part, dealing with the relationship between bone architecture and competence of bone, focuses on the morphology of trabecular bone structure. This work is mainly carried out in the context of research on osteoporosis, and look for the relation between bone structure and fracture risk. The last part is devoted to ultrasound research in bone biomechanics. Several methods have been described for the in vitro and in vivo measurement of ultrasound velocity and attenuation, both on cortical and on trabecular bone. The reader will not only discover the state-of-the-art when reading though this book. This book can give a taste of the fascinating perspectives the research in bone biomechanics still have to offer, even after more than 100 years.
