Book Synopsis Improving Energy Efficiency in Buildings by : Dennis R. Landsberg
Download or read book Improving Energy Efficiency in Buildings written by Dennis R. Landsberg and published by SUNY Press. This book was released on 1980-01-01 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intended for practical application, this book provides a guide for reducing energy consumption in those buildings that were constructed when the cost of construction, not the cost of operation, was of primary concern. Now that the "Golden Age of Energy" is over, the heating, lighting, and ventilation systems of these buildings must be adapted to present and future economic circumstances. Landsberg and Stewart approach the problem of reducing energy consumption in these buildings by providing users of this book with solutions ranging from simple measures that cost nothing to complex modifications that must be given a cost-benefit analysis. The appendixes define energy basics for those who have little or no engineering background; evaluate alternative energy systems; and analyze the basic economic decisions of making changes in a building's energy consumption. The sample forms used for energy audits of buildings in New York State that can be adapted for use in other states and for private buildings are also included.

This book was released on 2012-08 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to escalating cost of fuel, there is a felt need to carry out efficiency test to analyse the various heat losses present in boiler, with an aim to identify the major heat losses and causes of poor boiler efficiency. In this book, boiler efficiency improvement study has been carried out in a large boiler of a pulp and paper mill. The causes of poor boiler efficiency were various heat losses like loss due to unburnt carbon in refuse, loss due to dry flue gas, loss due to moisture in fuel, loss due to radiation, loss due to blow down and loss due to burning hydrogen. The various heat loses were analysed and certain recommendations were made to the plant management for implementing, so that efficiency of boiler can be increased. Some of the recommendations made were implemented and it has been seen that there is tremendous increase in boiler efficiency.

Book excerpt: A warmer house is a better house and it is never too late to insulate and take energy-efficient steps around the home to help use less fuel next winter. Improving the insulation of walls, roof and ground floors and upgrading existing heating systems will save energy. In addition to making a house warmer and cheaper to heat, insulation can lower the maintenance costs and give longer life to the property. Part 2 of this Good Repair Guide suggests some ways of upgrading central heating and reducing draughts. It will be of interest to householders and builders involved in refurbishment.
