Book Synopsis Sir Walter Winterbottom - The Father of Modern English Football by : Graham Morse
Download or read book Sir Walter Winterbottom - The Father of Modern English Football written by Graham Morse and published by Kings Road Publishing. This book was released on 2013-03-04 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sir Walter Winterbottom was arguably the most influential man in modern English football. He is known as the first England team manager, but more than that he was an innovator of modern coaching, sports administrator and a man ahead of his time; a man who had a profound effect on English football and who laid the foundations for England's success in 1966. Walter managed them all, from Lawton to Charlton, and inspired many to become coaches: Ron Greenwood, Bill Nicholson, Jimmy Hill and Bobby Robson were amongst his disciples and took his gospel to the clubs they managed. Born in 1913, Winterbottom started out as a teacher and physical education instructor, playing amateur football in his spare time. He was soon signed up by Manchester United, playing his first game 1936 and winning promotion to the First Division in 1938. A spinal ailment curtailed his career, but during World War II he served as an officer in the Royal Air Force before the FA appointed him as national director of coaching and England team manager in 1946.He remains the ony manager to have taken the national side to more than two World Cup finals and was created an OBE in 1963 and a CBE in 1972 before being knighted in 1978. Walter died in 2002 but his legacy continues to inspire many in football today, especially with the opening of the new St George's Park football academy. With interviews and insight from top football names, this book - written by Winterbottom's son-in-law - also draws on personal diaries, photographs and letters. However, this is more than just a biography of one man - it's the story of how modern football came about.
Download or read book Dog Shaming written by Pascale Lemire and published by Crown. This book was released on 2013-09-24 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the runaway web phenomenon (dogshamingdotcom), Dog Shaming features the most hilarious, most shameful, and never-before-seen doggie misdeeds. Our dogs are our best friends. They are always happy to see us. They comfort us in our times of need. They also eat our shoes, stain our carpets, and embarrass us in front of our guests. Dog owners everywhere have found their outlet in Dog Shaming, where they can confess their dogs' biggest (and often grossest!) sins, which turn out to be recognizably universal—complete with snapshots of ridiculously cute but shamed pups who don't seem capable of humping humans, pooping on pillows, or snagging steak straight from a grill. So share in the shaming and laugh through your frustration as Dog Shaming reminds us that unconditional love goes both ways.

Jerry Falwell Jr. is a prominent figure in the evangelical world whose support for presidential candidate Donald J. Trump helped secure Trump's Republican nomination in 2016. He captured headlines when it was revealed that he and his wife Becki had participated in a years-long bizarre sexual relationship with a pool attendant they met at the Fountainbleu Hotel in Miami Beach. As Falwell Jr. began to deny this relationship, even more damaging news came out, ultimately forcing him to resign as president of Liberty University, which many consider to be the largest evangelical Christian university in the world. Giancarlo Granda is now ready to share the story of his years on an "only in America" rollercoaster ride through the monied corridors of power and profound hypocrisy.
Download or read book I Adulted! written by Robb Pearlman and published by Rizzoli Publications. This book was released on 2017-03-07 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fun, funny, yet practical gift book containing 100 removable stickers that congratulate supposed grown-ups on a job well done… or at least a job done. Despite official reports, members of Generation X and younger feel completely and totally ill-prepared to deal with anything. They still, as purportedly self-sufficient adults, look toward Baby Boomers and the Greatest Generation and think, How did they do that? So the easiest and best way to find comfort is to look not ahead at uncertainty (or, heaven forbid, around at the chaos currently surrounding them), but to the past to their simpler childhoods. The generation who championed the coloring book-as-relaxation trend grew up in a world in which they spent hours obsessing over, trading, and decorating with stickers. And it is with brightly colored stickers that they will finally find peace of mind. For a little while, at least. Filled with 100 full-color removable stickers that can be used to decorate journals, notebooks, or your lapel to proudly and publicly proclaim life’s little victories, I Adulted! is the ideal nostalgic and practical book for anyone who feels a sense of accomplishment by making it through a day without calling their mother for help.
