Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Iliad and the Odyssey, song IX, Ulysses chooses the anthroponomy “Nobody” to escape the Cyclops. This onomastic game operates on two levels of meaning: the first referring to the anthroponomical fact, and the second to the lexicon, more specifically, to the common name. Ahead of his time, Ulysses would have surfed the Internet under the pseudonym Nobody... The nomination of a name allows all world objects to be included within the human paradigm. If to nominate is also an act which allows the social subject to be part of civil society and to be well-known and recognised by the other, what about nomination and pseudonyms on the internet? This book investigates this question through both a detailed study of the nomination of objects of the world and two surveys of Internet users and of a corpus of pseudonyms collected on forums and blogs on online newspapers.

She suspects that another American couple are not who they claim to be, her husband is acting suspiciously, and as she travels around Europe, she finds herself looking over her shoulder, increasingly terrified that her own past is catching up with her. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Broken Ground, William Logan explores the works of canonical and contemporary poets, rediscovering the lushness of imagination and depth of feeling that distinguish poetry as a literary art. The book includes long essays on Emily Dickinson’s envelopes, Ezra Pound’s wrestling with Chinese, Robert Frost’s letters, Philip Larkin’s train station, and Mrs. Custer’s volume of Tennyson, each teasing out the depths beneath the surface of the page. Broken Ground also presents the latest run of Logan’s infamous poetry chronicles and reviews, which for twenty-five years have bedeviled American verse. Logan believes that poetry criticism must be both adventurous and forthright—and that no reader should settle for being told that every poet is a genius. Among the poets under review by the “preeminent poet-critic of his generation” and “most hated man in American poetry” are Anne Carson, Jorie Graham, Paul Muldoon, John Ashbery, Geoffrey Hill, Louise Glück, John Berryman, Marianne Moore, Frederick Seidel, Les Murray, Yusef Komunyakaa, Sharon Olds, Johnny Cash, James Franco, and the former archbishop of Canterbury. Logan’s criticism stands on the broken ground of poetry, soaked in history and soiled by it. These essays and reviews work in the deep undercurrents of our poetry, judging the weak and the strong but finding in weakness and strength what endures.

The texts (whose authors come from different cultural contexts between Germany, France, Senegal, Benin, Nigeria and Tunesia) do not only refer to heterogenous aesthetic practices understood as subversive and decolonial strategies, but also discuss philosophical questions of a renewed (non-in)dividual humanism. The artistic practices analyzed include artistic installations and ensembles as well as actions in urban and rural space, deceptive manœuvres at the borders and their photographic documentation, and many more.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Organized chronologically by album, Margotin and Guesdon detail the origins of his melodies and lyrics, his process in the recording studio, the instruments he used, and the contribution of a myriad of musicians and producers to his canon.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac is pleased to announce a group exhibition curated by Matthieu Poirier. The exhibition will bring together works by twenty artists of eight different nationalities to explore the notion of landscape. Landscope, the exhibition and book, intend to call into question the art historical precedent of the correlation between landscape and drawing. The exhibition thus assembles, in two successive shows (Paris and Salzburg), over one hundred works, often in atypical formats, by artists for whom drawing is often just one medium among others, and landscape, a non-exclusive genre. Under the neologistic title "Landscope" - a contraction of "landscape" and "scope" [from the Greek skopein "to behold, to observe"], landscape is regarded as both a site and a view. The landscapes brought together here are often natural, yet reject conventional narrative or narcissistic themes. As in the mirror-like illustrations of Maeterlinck's dream of a theatre without actors, these scenes systematically exclude all human presence and thus contribute to the establishment of a scenography of absence, of a paradoxical phenomenology of emptiness. Even if these landscapes are completely deserted, they nevertheless remain "event-scenes [paysages d'évènements]" (Paul Virilio), genuine locations, resulting most frequently, from the collision of formal, logical and scopic motivations, rather than as a result of a narrative. Chosen here for its manifest artificiality and its necessarily dialectic relationship with the world, drawing appears as the indispensable tool for reconsidering this notion of landscape as well as the related themes of perspective, space and representation. It is not so much the spatial landscapes that are observed here, but through their archetypal characteristics, the very notion of landscape itself.--Press release.
