Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A year-long weekly meal planner based on the Catholic liturgical calendar and the liturgical living recommendations in the Catholic All Year Compendium, sure to make you a perfectly pious and oh-so organized cook. Or . . . maybe not. But this planner has been mindfully designed for busy moms and everyone who wants to focus a bit more on learning about the lives of the saints, the history and traditions of the Church, and bringing the people we love together around the table. The planner pages are undated. That means having a frozen pizza and leftovers week or going out of town doesn't mean "wasting" dated pages. Fill out the weeks as you go. Skip when you want to. Zero judgement from the planner. In the back you'll find all the feast days on the universal liturgical calendar, plus all the saints' days mentioned in the Catholic All Year Compendium. They are listed with a bit of information to inspire your meal planning-like a country or foods with which the saint or day is associated. Also included are lines to jot down your family members' three special days (birthday, nameday, and baptismal anniversary) and any other important recipes, holy days, holidays, and anniversaries you want to remember when meal planning. Write the month and dates of the upcoming week at the top of the page. Circle the liturgical season to get you in the mood. Then consult the lists in the back of the planner or on your Catholic All Year liturgical wall calendar to see if there are feast days you want to celebrate during the week or days of fasting or abstinence to remember and note them next to the day of the week. Decide on meals. Write them down. Fill out the shopping list. Tear it off when you're ready to head to the store. Easy peasy!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is not a scandal rehash. It describes the evolution of many Compliant Catholics of the largely ethnic, pre-WWII Church into both the Curious and the Critical Catholics of today. It is also about the potential demise of the American Catholic Church in the next few decades unless that evolution continues. The authors mission, based on his own experience and development, is to suggest to todays Compliant Catholics that they not only may, but should become Curious; to demonstrate to already Curious Catholics that it is all right to be Critical; and to encourage Critical Catholics to speak up and be heard among their friends, in their Parishes and throughout their Dioceses. The book is clearly critical of many things about our Religion and the Church, but it is not an exhortation to pack up and leave. In fact, it is a plea to fellow Catholics to realize that they can find and embrace reasons to stay and provide help in getting the Church back on track. The book is not an attempt to convert people to Catholicism nor is it a Theological treatise on elements of the Faith. After reading the manuscript, a good friend, herself educated in Theology, said, You are not a Theologian(but you are) a fiercely loyal critic. This book is addressed to all Catholics, whether practicing or not. The author was born in 1930, during the golden age of Catholicism in the United States, which was rooted in the ethnic parishes of every city. Now, seven and a half decades later, he is a very different kind of Catholic, who despite the controversial election of Pope Benedict XVI is cautiously optimistic about the future. When the author was growing up, his Religion was inextricably entangled with family, society, politics and nearly every other phase of life. It was an Immigrant Church, although many of its members were by then second and third generation citizens. From their midst they had provided a strong clergy and an army of Religious, who staffed excellent schools, colleges and hospitals. These were Compliant Catholics, trained in that tradition through the firm, but usually gentle authority and discipline of the Church. These people didnt know that they were Compliant Catholics and no one called them that, because that was the only kind of Catholics there were at that time. They were taught that there was much somewhat undefined important work to be done and little time to spend discussing dogma or alternatives. There were also strong indications that not only would it be imprudent to introduce such discussions, but also that they would not be tolerated if they were introduced. Compliant Catholics were defined by their Religion, instead of being supported by it. That Religion, in turn, was specified and taught, monitored and adjudicated by the Church, which itself was largely an enigma to its members. As the author grew up he became falsely comfortable and secure in his Religious beliefs; shielded by the Church from contrary opinion; but with no real sense of the meaning of Faith. In the first two chapters, the author describes that not always subtle indoctrination, which extended through his high school years. At first, his training as a Compliant Catholicism came by example from his parents. Then it was the Nuns, first in Religious Education classes and later in Parochial School. Finally in a private boys high school the Brothers of the Christian Schools, an order founded in France, taught him their version. Authority and Discipline, not Faith. The next five Chapters deal with the evolution of some of the Compliant Catholics of the authors generation and their offspring, through the intermediate stage of being Curious Catholics and beyond into the Critical Catholics found today in sizable numbers in the American Catholic Church. This evolution had its roots in the

Book excerpt: Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven ... sicut in caelo et in terra The saints were not picture perfect. But they were real men and women who loved Jesus in the midst of their struggles with sin and suffering. In the most difficult moments in history, these men and women were lights in the darkness, prophets of hope, and beacons of peace. Joyfully persevering through life's trials, they lived the Gospel in unique, fascinating, and inspiring ways. The Daughters of St. Paul at Pauline Books and Media noticed that most books on the lives of the saints are paperback and do not have a presentation as timeless or as beautiful as we believe the lives of the saints deserve. For this reason, we decided to take on the monumental project to write, design, and illustrate a volume of 365 saints and blesseds. Supported by the prayers of our sisters in convents and Pauline Books and Media bookstores around the world, over thirty of our sisters worked on all aspects of this timeless volume for over a decade. It's our hope that it will reflect the striking beauty of the saints' lives--a meeting of heaven and earth. Through the beautiful reflections and exquisite artwork, may you forge deeper bonds with these holy men and women in heaven who show us how to live in Christ. Let's become saints! Features & Benefits - daily reflections on the saints and blesseds, written by the Daughters of St. Paul - original illustrations by Sr. Danielle Victoria Lussier, FSP - includes indices of names, patron saints, feast days - includes prayers written by the saints - keepsake quality with durable hardcover - gold-stamped cover - includes a ribbon

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout the centuries, the early Christians have kept the honorable custom of including a short prayer before sitting down to their daily meals. Now my role is to spoon-feed you with the verses from the Bible. I was inspired by the Holy Spirit to gather these scriptural passages, so I am confident that the Holy Spirit will inspire you too, especially when you read them from the heart. As I have mentioned earlier, the Word of God doesnt have an expiration. So this book can be kept and can be continuously read throughout the years. The power of repetition makes us powerful too in our practice of being Christians; hence, the Word and deed would empower our Christian ways. Lets bring back the old waysthe old tradition of saying grace through biblical passage.

Book excerpt: In the work of documentary filmmakers, explains Nick Polizzi, one cardinal rule is never forget that your job is to document, not participate. But when Nick set out to explore the native outback of the Americas - meeting healers, shamans, and medicine women and tapping their well of ancient wisdom, nearly lost to the rest of the world - he had to bend that rule. As he found his way into highly sacred and often very private shamanic ceremonies, not participating ceased to be an option. Nick invites readers along on his journey of discovery to make indigenous knowledge of healing accessible to us all.
