Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many species of fish occupying inland waters reside in watershedsthat were or still are surrounded by forests and are dependent inmajor ways upon such cover. The interactions between fishes andforests are complex, multifaceted, dynamic processes involving mostinland surface waters, forests, subsurface waters, geology andsoils, climate and its changes, and the biotic components of therelevant ecosystems. These interactions also include the aspects offorestry tied to human development, economics, population growthand even philosophies. Fishes and Forestry is truly a landmark publication. Theeditors, Professors Northcote and Hartman, have drawn together andcarefully edited chapters written by 56 scientists from around theworld, covering a vast wealth of information never before appearingwithin the covers of one book. Following an introductory chapter, this exceptional work is broadly divided into sections covering:the ecology of forests, streams, lakes and estuaries; fish biologyand ecology; forestry activities and their effects on aquaticsystems and fishes; 14 chapters covering examples of fish-forestryinteractions from around the world and a final section coveringmeans of effecting better fish-forestry interactions. Fishes and Forestry is an essential purchase for allthose involved in inland fisheries, forestry and their interaction, including fisheries scientists, fish biologists, ecologists, environmental scientists and forestry scientists. Libraries in alluniversities and research establishments where these subjects arestudied and taught should have several copies on their shelves.

INSTITUTIONAL GARBAGE is an experimental publication that endeavors to grasp the memory, feeling, and trace of an online exhibition that took place in the fall of 2016. The online exhibition presented the administrative residue of imaginary public institutions produced by artists, writers, and curators. Contracts, email correspondences, documented unproductivity, syllabi, scanned objects, obstacle courses, and other fragments were collected to illustrate the backend activities of imaginary bureaucracies, to trace the private life of institutional endeavors. Book excerpt: Biologically, New Ireland is one of the least biologically studied regions of Papua New Guinea—its mountainous southern zone has long been considered both a high priority for biodiversity conservation and a major "scientific unknown." Conservation International agreed to organize a rapid assessment of the forests and wildlife of southern New Ireland. The purpose of the rapid assessment exercise was threefold: to assess the biodiversity of southern New Ireland, to field-test rapid-survey methodology in Papua New Guinea, and to share expertise and methodologies with staff scientists from Papua New Guinea's Department of Environment and Conservation.

Section 2 discusses factors affecting the vulnerability of the species, the role of the turtle in the Nova Scotia Atlantic interior ecosystem, and the recovery potential of the species. Section 3 outlines the recovery plan, including goals & objectives, strategies, and a sequence of actions. Additional information is provided for each step of the plan: determination of habitat requirements and availability, implementation of habitat protection, clarifying understanding of the turtle's life history, stabilizing population age structure through increased recruitment, investigating population genetics, and providing data storage and access. This book was released on 1996 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reports a study conducted to: document the movement patterns of young Blandings turtles (Emydoidea blandingii); and identify areas used by young turtles as rearing grounds and hibernation sites. The study area was located in a park in south-western Nova Scotia. The turtles were hand-reared to an age when they could be fitted with radio transmitters and were then released at four sites, three located on small brooks and the fourth at a small pond. All release sites had boggy floodplain areas dominated by shrubs, grasses, and sphagnum moss. Tagged turtles were tracked daily for the first few days after release to determine whether they would move significantly after release. When determined they would not move significantly, they were positioned by telemetry every 3-7 days and recaptured every 3-14 days. Recaptured turtles were measured and examined to determine their condition. Results are presented and discussed related to turtle survival, movement, predation, behaviour, and habitat use.
